Simple and effective
This thing is simple and effective. Quality parts, simple to install, easy to adjust. I had to make adjustments to the gate first, to make proper space for the closer. After installed, this thing just works. Hasn’t needed any adjustments. We’ll see how it continues to work o er time and thru winter weather.

This worked on our wrought iron gate.
We used this on a wrought iron gate going to our above ground pool. We were not sure if it would work on the square poles, but it did and are happy with how it works. Easy to adjust and easy to install. It is made of quality material, and should last for years.

It works.
Purchased this to replace another closer sold on Amazon that works by winding or unwinding a coil spring as the gate is opened--that closer just does not work well; if the gate doesn't latch (e.g., bounces because the force is too great) the gate comes to rest a foot from the latch. Adjusting per the instructions doesn't seem to work. So enter this little closer, which when you take it out of the box appears lightweight compared to the above product, with its thick gate quality steel, dripping with cold galvanize. This closer, with its fine nickel plating, looks like something you would put inside, not outside; but it appears to be corrosion resistant so we'll see. The clamshell, two piece clamps mount easily, without having to use a mallet to drive a C-clamp onto the post as with the other product. The two piece clamps go together easily and are very effective (no slip) when tightened even modestly--slippage was another problem with the other closer. The strap can pivot/move in and out in the clamp 'sockets', making this one ideal to use with gates that have adjustable hinges (distance from the hinge post) can vary. Most importantly, the closer works, bringing the gate to the latch everytime. the only complaint is while it will cause the gate to rest against the latch if the gate is let gently (not enough swing to engage the latch), the pressure against the latch is pretty light, and an animal for example could push past it. The other thing I noticed is that if you open the gate in the opposite direction from the last opening, the torsion strap will click as it changes its set in the rather loose fitting clamps. Seems to me it would be a bit more effective if it was fastened firmly at both ends. Another minor complaint: the hardware for the strap bolt (only one bolt, at the top) should include a lock washer. And the bolt should be a shoulder bolt with a smooth shaft (no threads) for the strap to pivot on depending on the direction of opening. For these items I bump it down to 4 stars instead of 5. Especially for the money, the design and materials should be a tad more polished. And, durability remains to be assessed. This closer costs 50% more than the coil spring device also offered on Amazon. Don't waste your money on that one, because it just doesn't work , esp for a one way gate. Of the selections on Amazon for chain link walk gates, this appears to be the one to buy.

Decent Product! Very Expensive! Gate Closer Gets Bent After Much Use!
I would describe this product as well designed gate closer. It does what it promises to do. However, after six months of use or so, the metal bar gets bent and the gate doesn't close all the way to its original settings. So this means that after some use, you would have to buy another gate closer. Last time I purchase this item it costed $47.95. Now it costs $64.95. I simply don't think its worth $64.95. I think for a piece of metal bar and two side clips to hold the bar in place should cost no more than $19.95.

Not reliable
Works fine initially, but after awhile it needs to be adjusted to close when opened slightly. Then the spring takes a permanent set condition if the gate is opened too wide and it will not close when opened only a few inches. Just avoid this product entirely.

Tension Gate Closer -- ALL GOOD -- although missing a nut(???) had to replace
This tension gate closer, from the Gate Shut Store here on Amazon, works great. Easy to install -- but you may have keep adjusting & tweaking it to get the gate to close properly going back to the gate's closed position. There seemed to be a missing nut(???) for the bolt that holds the tension bar to the top clamp? And so I had to search through my spare nuts & bolts for what can instead fit in place to secure the tension bar. Anyways all good because the gate closes automatically. But now I have to also order a butterfly gate latch from here on amazon for the gate to automatically self-lock in place. Thanks Amazon & Gate Shut Store.

Works good for a week
This only works for like a week. Then the thin strip of metal that is acting as the resistance basically just bends and the door no longer swings shut.
