I have been using sennheiser headphones since the 80s and it's good to see that the quality has not diminished. The hd 599 se headphones that I received today are really comfortable to wear, the sound quality is excellent, the build is very nice, two interchangeable power cords one long and one shorter. Also the overall design is very cool looking.

First off, I bought these in the Amazon Prime Day sales for £70 which is a total bargain. I would not consider myself an audiophile and if you are then you will probably want to invest more money into your headphones but the quality on these should suit most people. Very clear sound and I've picked up sound that I've never heard before on tracks I listen to often. I found these when looking for open backed headphones, partly because I want to be aware of my surroundings when I'm wearing them and partly so they don't make my ears feel as hot as my older headphones. Another benefit was that they feel more like listening to speakers rather than just being blasted into my ears but that could be personal preference. The open backed nature does mean there is sound leakage, both for you hearing external sound but also others being able to hear your music, so that's something you will need to consider for your usage. Very comfortable to wear for longer periods of time partially due to being lightweight though maybe not as portable as folding headphones would be but I don't need that. Very easy to use, no controls on the headphones so controlled completely through whatever you plug them into. In the box you get a 1.2m cable with a 3.5mm jack plug and a 3m cable with a 6.3mm jack plug, however there is also a 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter included so you can still use the longer cable with devices that have a 3.5mm socket. The adapter makes the plug quite long so maybe not a great solution if you intend to use it with a portable device like a phone. The leads have a twist and lock mechanism to secure them into the headphones which is fantastic but you will need to be aware of that if you intend to swap over to the 3m cable. Overall, with the considerations I've given above, I would fully recommend these headphones for people wanting wired open back headphones without paying hundreds of pounds. Especially great value if you can pick them up on sale.

The best headphones I have ever owned. Comfortable for prolonged use and great quality sound too. The padding failed after 2 years of use, so I bought a new set of the same model while I find replacement pads. Genuine Sennheiser pads are hard to find. I like the way the cable plugs into the headset and twists to lock into place. I also like the choice of cables included, that allows me to use the shorter cable to plug into my computer. The pass through sound means I can hear activity around me when I wear these, walking to the village shops. Great value for money when on sale.

These are excellent overall, they have a very long interchangeable cable that is ideal for djing with. The sound is wide, clear and not too bass heavy, I have found it is possible to over power the drivers if pushed too hard but I don't think this is a failing of the headphones but the ability of my gear to put out high levels. Overall a great set of headphones that fit people with larger heads and can be used for reference and studio work. Update JAN 2023 These are still going strong and have become my go to headphones, as someone that uses headphones for extended periods be it for mixing or mastering I have totally fallen in love with these. I've had HD 25 pros and most of the other DJ headphones on the market but none do the job as well as these can do both mastering and DJing. The interchangeable cables are handy as the long version is the 6.8mm and the short is 3.5 mm ( I have since bought a curly 6.8mm for DJing so I do tread on the longer wire ) the ear cups do offer very good isolation and this is what pushes them above the HD25's aswell as the larger size. Overall after nearly a years use they are as responsive, clear and comfortable as the day I received them. Definitely my favourite cans May 2025 Still the Same Cans still well worth the money...... After 3 Years and thousands of hours use they are still going strong !!!! My only complaint is that they don't flex as much as I would like but they do keep their shape exceptionally well ! If you really want to spend loads on headphones then you can but these are without a doubt my work horse cans. I've bought them a carry case and a 2nd curly lead. No doubt the best bang for buck cans I've bought in the last 10 years

I was very tentative about buying these. I already have Bose QC 35 wireless headphones from a few years ago which got 5 star reviews everywhere... although I have to admit I never truly loved their sound. After buying a synth last year, and wanting some headphones more suited for home listening and music production, I started wondering about buying some simple wired headphones. But the question that nobody could answer for me is... could a £90 pair of wired headphones with no bluetooth and no noise cancelling be worth buying when you already have some £300 wireless headphones with those features from a few years back. The answer has been an emphatic yes - I've loved these since the first second I tried them, and my Bose and 3rd gen AirPods no longer get a look-in for home listening. As with all home audio, there are better and more audiophile options available, but for under £100 these are a very strong contender. Bass is clear and present, but not over powering. Sound is balanced but involving and not at all sterile. If you haven't had decent headphones before, you'll notice little extra nuances in songs you love. The packaging is a plain cardboard box, and the headphones don't feel unnecessarily showy or "premium" in their construction... but I don't mean this in a bad way. Basically every penny you're spending has gone on headphones that sound good, and do what they need to do but nothing more. They're light and comfortable to wear for as long as you like, and in my case, whilst wearing glasses. Don't buy these if you need only one pair of headphones in your life. They leak sound terribly (by design, as they're open-backed) and so would be useless for commuting. They're too bulky for travelling, wearing on the walk to work etc. But if you want a pair of headphone for home use that give balanced, enjoyable and involving sound, and you're fine to be "old-fashioned" and tethered with a cable then you should absolutely buy these.

£70 and very good. I can only compare with my Momentum 4s which were over triple the price. Sounds quality is on a par with the M4s wired up. Vs the M4s in bluetooth mode the 599s win. The 599s are very comfortable though, my ears don't get clammy thanks to the open back design. There is of course sound leakage but its fine for my purposes. Do consider this if you want to listen without others hearing the residual sound too. Good quality item. Didn't come with a case or bag, though. The sound gets better and better in the first couple of weeks. Pair this with a high-res sound source like Tidal and you're winning. I listen to metal and like driving percussive tracks and the 599s have enough bass for my liking. I did need to increase the bass on my EQ though, out of the box they were a tad flat.

I brought these headphones about a month ago and decided not to review them until I'd spent at least 10 or so hrs using them, listening to a range of music ,rock, pop, jazz but mainly classical. So far I've found them very comfortable even when I've used them for listening sessions over 3 hrs or so. The sound is nicely balanced thru the frequencies and the sound is spread over the wide 'sound field'. They are a bit big and bulky (but light in weight), Also they don't fold and allow a lot of sound escape. So they're the not ideal for travelling but better suited for home use. The construction of the phones are mostly plastic but they well built and robust. These headphones are the best phones I've ever owned (so far) and considering what I paid for them (about £70). THEY ARE A STEAL. Foot note. Allow a few hrs of listening through these head phones to allow your hearing and brain to get used to the sound they make and also for the transducers to 'bed in' and loosen up a bit. The sound really do's seem to improve and get smoother as you them. To my ears anyway. -
