In my opinion as a beginner quilter, this is a really good machine! I used to have a brother lx3817 which was 90 dollars from Walmart. It did its job and survived 3 quilts and a lot of projects, but I’m thankful to upgrade! This machine runs so much smoother compared to my last machine, and it took me like 10 minutes to figure things out without looking at the manual since the bobbin threading and regular threading are similar. I love the automatic threader!

I've had this machine since early 2023 and she is an absolute workhorse. She isn't fussy, she doesn't break down. If she gets cranky, then 9/10 times it's because I threaded her wrong; once I've fixed that, she picks right back up. I made a massive wedding gown on this machine. I've made king-sized quilts on this machine. I free-motion quilt on this machine (admittedly, she's not the best at it, but still). I make bags on this machine. I've sewn through at least 4 layers of denim on this machine. I've put hundreds of hours of sewing on this machine. She just keeps going. Nuclear armageddon will rain down upon us all and this machine simply will not ever quit. My only complaints about this machine have nothing to do with her and everything to do with how I've grown as a sewist. 1) I wish stitch width went wider than 5 mm. 2) I wish she did a blanket stitch. 3) I wish she had a bigger throat space for quilting, because quilting a king size quilt with a 6" throat space, while technically possible, was NOT fun. 4) I wish she had a thread cutting feature (see: my comments about quilting a king sized quilt). This machine was $250 CAD when I bought her, and she is a HUGE step up from the $100 department store clunker I had before. She is patient for beginners and has enough features for intermediate sewists to start pushing boundaries. I'm one of those weirdos who prefer a mechanical sewing machine over a digital sewing machine, and my little XR3774 has not disappointed me. She's louder than the Husqvarna Onyx 25 (which I put probably 100 hours on this summer), but in terms of overall capability/stitch quality they are comparable, and this machine is, like, $200 cheaper, comes with a quilting table, and has more stitches.
