Does anyone have experience with this camera and the 28-300 Nikkor lens?

The 28-300mm is a very sharp lens with a short focal distance which allows it to be used for Macro. It is an overall good lens and is the lens I take with me in situations where changing lens is not possible. It is a great travel lens, although it is a bit hefty. Does it compare to pro-level lens? Not exactly but it holds it's own and is better and sharper than any kit lens out there (Much sharper than the 18-200). I've used this lens on multiple bodies including the D500, D750, D810 and D850. Images are sharp. Obviously every zoom has a sweet spot and that will be where you will find it to be at it's sharpest. I shot side-by-side images with a Tamron G2 70-200. When compared with the 28-300, the 70-200 we better, but not necessarily sharper. Additionally, you can fine tune the focus inside of the camera as well. Bottom-line, this is a great walk around lens that will get you wide shots when you need them and enough reach when you need to get closer. 300mm is not ideal for wildlife, but I've used it for everything else including portraits, sports and it did not disappoint. If you already have that Lens and are looking to upgrade to to D850, it will work just fine, images will be sharp even if you are a pixel-peeper.

If by, "Is this the US model?" you mean, is it made in the US. No it's not. Clearly stated on the packaging - Made in Thailand.

How long is the queue of backorders on Nov 21-- what is the estimated wait time and/or now shipping camera to those who ordered how long ago?

I looked around today and cant really find any information about availability. I have read that supply may not ease up until January 2018 or later. If you go to Best Buy for example, and put in the order today, the message there is: "Expected to ship by Sun, Dec 31." Initial order on Amazon in September received shipment in early November.
