LATEST UPDATE: Regarding my below review--I'm updating this to four stars for two reasons: First, the folks at Innate Vitality have contacted me several times and really care to please their customers. In fact, they sent me a free bottle of milk thistle to make up for the confusion (explained below), and this bottle does not have the contradictory label on the side. Second, in case I'm wrong about the smell, that shouldn't reflect on the company--and I highly doubt that they would take time to send a replacement unless it truly was milk thistle. This second bottle still has the strong fermented odor and smells a little like molasses. Other brands of milk thistle I've had never smelled anything like that. However, this supplement is stronger (300 mg while my other present brand is 150 mg). So perhaps double the strength makes it smell like that? I wish I knew. I couldn't find anything online that tells what it is supposed to smell like, but I'm still concerned that it smells fermented and, yes, exactly like the first bottle did. FIRST UPDATE: Amazon promptly gave me a refund. (Thanks, Amazon.) Then the folks at Innate Vitality emailed an apology and offered to replace the supplement. However they claimed the barcode label was just a typing error. I can assure them that what was in the bottle was NOT milk thistle. INITIAL REVIEW: Maddening and dangerous! I received this last month but didn't open it till tonight, when I ran out of my last milk thistle caps (a different brand). Immediately I noticed how differently this smelled, so I came here to Amazon to read reviews, to see if anyone else was concerned about the strange smell. Soon I found several customers who said what they had received weren’t milk thistle caps but turmeric. I followed one reviewer's photos and looked for such an extra label on the side of my bottle. Sure enough it says "Innate Vitality Turmeric Capsule, New," whereas the bottle's front label clearly shows it to be "Milk Thistle." Thank goodness I noticed the strange smell because I CANNOT TAKE TURMERIC. It interacts badly with a heart/blood pressure prescription I take daily! I'm not sure which it is--turmeric or milk thistle--but I know this: it certainly smells different than any milk thistle I've ever purchased. It has a strong fermented-chemical smell. Had I not noticed the smell, I would have started taking this each night with my BP med and, some days later, wondered what was wrong with me! Please tell Innate Vitality this is a bad and potentially dangerous mistake!

I was having some liver pain before taking this milk thistle. I’ve had none since I started taking it. That’s all the proof I need.

I'm pretty new to milk thistle and decided to add it to my supplement regimen after hearing how good milk thistle, and particularly the silymarin it contains, is for liver health and detoxification. I've been taking 1 capsule a day for around 2 months so far. They are easy to swallow, and have no particular smell or after taste. I've had no digestive discomfort or anything of that sort. This particular brand is vegetarian friendly, free of gluten, dairy and many other allergens, which is perfect for me. I'm hopeful that they are doing my liver some good and plan to have blood work in the future to chart progress. Until then, I'm very happy to continue taking these and recommend to others who wish to support their livers. Product arrived quickly and in perfect condition.
