McGraw-Hill's Conversational American English: The Illustrated Guide to Everyday Expressions of American English (McGraw-Hill ESL References)

This is the language we need to be teaching foreigners from the start! It's not beginner English. It's survival English!! It's what they need to live in the US without being held hostage by their native tongue. Good for anyone, not for just a Spanish speaker, Asian language speaker, etc. My first student was Armenian, working in a kitchen making less than minimum wage. Once he began speaking in English vernacular, working conditions improved. That's a true testament to this book!

nice approach to contextual learning no doubt. I'm a 29-year-old native English speaker and a lot of the phrases are so old that I've never heard of them before. i think that really hurts the usefulness of this book, however i like the approach. so buy it and add a few or take a few phrases out and you are good.

It's ideal conversational phrases textbook for Englsih leaners. It hits the spot and really suits my need！Just be patient with it and u will be amazed at how much it could bring you！ Give it ur best shot

Tried using this as the primary textbook for a conversational English class at church and found out that it is best used to supplement other teaching methods. Its does provide a thorough covering of conversational English but many of the words are no longer used (at least in this generation). Even the slang words were not as up to date as I would have liked but we were able to contextualize some of the phrases as being more appropriate to different age groups. In the end, I still use this to determine a topic for each week, such as "Making Friends" or "Expressing Forgiveness" but then either develop my own lessons or use many of the free ESL worksheets and activites available online.

I am very happy that I could find this book. It helped me speak english and think in english. I developed my english speaking skill. i recommend it for any non-english speaker.

In my view, this book can be very useful for these non-native English speakers who need to make their English more conversational and more American.Perhaps it is good to be complemented by listening experience - in the impossibility of a real conversational partner You tube, films, audio conversations may suffice.

I bought this book to be used at an English club. I think it's well organized and covers all the basics to learn the language. I'll recommend it for my friends.

I bought this book as a birthday gift for a friend of mine that works at an American University in Europe. The book is accurate for American-speak, easy to follow, and very useful. He loved it! His confidence and English noticeably improved within two weeks (He read it everyday, though). The product was exactly what it claimed to be and turned out to be the perfect gift. No disappointments here...

Exactly what I was looking for. Easy to read and resource full. It literally seems to have all phrases you will ever need. Every phrase comes with plenty of examples.

Wer sein Amerikanisch verbessern will und einfach viele idiomatische (Alltags-) Ausdrücke braucht, liegt mit diesem Buch genau richtig. Schön geordnetes und gutes Material für viele Alltagssituationen. Auch für Anfänger nicht uninteressant.
