INSANE Suction Power, lightweight, with styling from the 1950's!
I have written like 2 reviews and usually don't bother - mostly because I hate 2 word reviews but don't have time to write complete reviews. But after one use I had to comment about this amazing vacuum. We had our home professionally cleaned again after moving in 2+ years ago when it was last cleaned professionally, I couldn't believe how much better our carpets looked - like when we moved in but I have not been able to replicate with my Dyson since. I was considering getting the carpet cleaned professionally because the Dyson has trouble picking up the carpet pile in high traffic areas unless I use a carpet rake first and follow the same vacuum pattern every time. I thought the house cleaner did something to the carpet but she only vacuumed with the commercial Oreck vacuums she said she swears by, and that I didn't need to clean my carpet. How could a vacuum that looks like the one my mom used be better than my awesome looking Dyson that I paid like $400 for? I hesitated but did my research and purchased the Oreck. It was pretty easy to assemble and had to endure my family laughing because they thought I'd purchased a 40 year old vacuum. But I tried it on a notoriously high traffic area that I usually have to vigorously rake to get the pile up with the Dyson. The Oreck pulled up the carpet pile without raking it first, AND while vacuuming in the opposite direction. I got all excited and vacuumed the whole house and FINALLY it looks like the day we moved in (the last time it was professionally cleaned). I will qualify this by saying I do have an older Dyson vacuum, maybe 10 years old or so....but we had wood floors put in not long after I bought it so it does NOT have many miles on it at all. I think the Oreck just took the Dyson to town, at half the cost and half the weight. The Oreck is light enough to use on stairs and I was able to do a flight in no time compared to wrestling the Dyson and the stair attachment up and down the stairs. I even used the Oreck on the couches and ottoman and it removed the cat hair really well. I will keep my Dyson for the attachments and pet hair turbine (for pillows and small areas), but that is not a knock on the Oreck because the simplicity of the design compared to the Dyson I think adds to its amazing effectiveness. Another great design feature of the Oreck is the low profile head and the handle that folds all the way to the floor. This give me access under desks, couches, and beds that the Dyson can't touch. It also transitions seamlessly between tile and carpet surfaces and is just as effective on hard floors as carpets without having to turn a knob to switch surfaces, like on most vacuums I've owned. Also, the extension cord is 40' long and plugs into a shorter cord on the vacuum and held together with a cord lock. This is a great concept that I would assume would allow you to switch to different length cords, based on your needs. I read reviews that the commercial models don't work on high pile carpet. I don't know the definition of "high pile", but I have tile floors, low pile rugs like what you'd find in hotel carpets, and carpet that I consider pretty standard - like 1/2" thick or so. The Oreck works equally well on all three surfaces. Of course the vacuum gives more resistance on the carpet, but for what I consider normal or standard carpet pile this vacuum works great. I'll get used to using a bag again. It's really old school along with the rest of the no frills design and function of this vacuum. But its a great trade-off for how my carpets look now, and although I don't anticipate having to replace any parts anytime soon with the extended life belt, it appears from my research that parts are easy to find and replace. Another benefit of the simple but incredibly functional design.

Long-lasting vac that's a workhorse. Light-weight.
Very lightweight cleaner that has enough power to clean up almost anything from your floors whether they are carpeted or hard surfaced. I've had 2 residential models and both have lasted for years. The last one broke right where the plastic portion of the handle tube joins the metal portion. My fault for trying to lift the vac up from the handle while it started to suck a throw rug up that I was standing on it. The plastic portion couldn't take it. The vac would still be in use if I could find an exact replacement. Anyway, I purchased this commercial model instead. It looks like the portion that broke on my old vac is metal instead of plastic. It also comes with a long-lasting belt. Functions the same as my older vac. This arrived right on time.

BUY IT! I did all the homework. At this price point, this is the best value you're going to get as of May 2015.
I recently spent entirely too much time researching price versus performance of vacuum cleaners after being tired of spending $200 at big box stores and having to replace units every 2-4 years. I was on a mission. Admittedly, I had previously never bothered to shop around because I thought all vacuum cleaners were the same. I was wrong. I was immediately delighted to read reviews on here detailing how Orecks Have lasted several years, including the span of 25 years. Before doing this research, I was unaware that it was possible to buy commercial grade vacuum cleaners without buying in bulk. The endurobelt was also a factor in my purchase, as this is usually the first component to fail. Five years on a belt before failing is unheard of, and the price difference between units without it was only about $30. No brainer. I never thought I would say this, but vacuuming using this unit was a pleasure! It is super light. It is actually easier to use than previous models that had all the bells and whistles as well as manually-adjustable height. You do not need the extra weight of headlights. Just use room lights. I found myself never using attachments on previous vacuum cleaners. They had added extra weight and also routed the vacuum power such that suction was diminished. This is not the case with this unit. It was able to effortlessly pick up dirt better than any other unit I have ever used. Just as salient: using filter bags. My previous units were bagless models, and I hated them. Emptying them resulted in Dust and particles getting everywhere. Cleaning the container was a chore because debris got stuck in tight spaces, which meant reaching in with my hand and touching God knows what. Since the replacement bags average between $1-2 each, are easy to replace, non-messy, and more hygienic, I will not being going back to bagless. My only complaint is the awkward extension cord. The length is utterly fantastic, as is the ability to disconnect from the unit. However, A better winding mechanism or retraction capability would have made this already great product even more stellar. The numerous hours I had spent tracking down this model were well worth the effort.

Basic Vacuum with good suction
I bought this vacuum cleaner because it is light weight, the Oreck brand and it is supposed to be for commercial use. I can tell the suction is much stronger than my previous Oreck, but not so strong I can't push it. I am pleased with it so far. The way they set up the cord on the back could be better, but it doesn't affect performance. After using it, I wish there were two speeds for carpet and wood, but it still cleans well.

I've been using the Oreck Commercial for about a month now and it is without doubt the best vacuum cleaner I'ver ever used. Lightweight and small enough to get into tight spots but it really packs a punch. I'm impressed with the suction power.

I purchased this vacuum to replace our 25 year old Oreck that finally failed after years of service. This new model is basically the same but has a long life belt, a carrying handle, a detachable 40 foot cord and a safety shut off to protect the motor if the roller brush gets jammed on a sock or a carpet fringe.. It works on carpets and hard surfaces and picks up everything without blowing dust back into the room. Hepa filter bags are available if you need them. It's light weight and goes under furniture. It's a classic and has earned its reputation for commercial use in hotels. At $238 Canadian and free delivery it's a bargain. Highly recommended.

Bought this for my retail store and love the suction, the only downfall is how loud it is and there is no attachments to get under fixtures and near the baseboards.

i bought 1 and half month back and it was the worst decision i had ever made.instead of cleaning it creates more mess. it throws dirt instead of pulling. I use another vacuum cleaner to clean my house and I had to buy another one for my business. it is a nightmare for a cleaning company.
