POOR DESIGN! POOR QUALITY! Don't waste your $$$
(2 hrs later)Hallelujah. My handy hubby was able to restore some of the suction to the DustBuster. As it turns out, the nozzle was collecting its own little assortment of debris and had gotten stopped up. So not only do you need to use your fingers to empty the trash chamber, you also need to keep a pencil handy to pick debris out of the skinny nozzle. Woo hoo. And folks, these weren't big chunks of junk... just little crumbs and bits. (Double GRRRRR).(Product Update after using it for approx. 45 days)BUYER BEWARE!!!! Every day that I use this hand-held vacuum I hate it more and more! Aside from the really poor design , it has little to no suction even after cleaning out the filter. How is this even possible??? Seriously! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. How did this ridiculous thing ever get a 4 star average??? I could suck trash up from the floor more effectively using a drinking straw and my mouth (not that I'd want to). In case my initial explanation of the poor design features weren't sufficient, I will go ahead and revisit some of my earlier complaints in greater detail. There are three release buttons on the white wand--one on the top and two on the sides. Sometimes as you're vacuuming you will touch surrounding objects which will inadvertently press a release button and the end piece will spontaneously pop off. That is highly annoying to say the least. Getting that end piece secured back onto the vacuum can also be a challenge and if you're not superhero strong you may have to secure the vacuum between your legs while to press, pull, and twist with two hands. You may hear a faint pop to let you know it's secure, but then again you may not. Heck, you might hear a faint pop only to find that it falls off again with minimal effort. But let's say that you actually intended to remove the wand and empty the trash chamber... The first thing you will need is to find a place to rest the end piece while you use your free hand to physically pull the trash out of the tight crevice between the edge of the trash chamber and the big, gray filter. I happen to have little lady hands with slender fingers so after about 2 minutes I am able to remove most of the junk from the trash chamber. Good luck with this if you are a fat-fingered fella. It ain't gonna be pretty! But honestly, even after digging around with my fingers, there is almost always some unreachable debris in the chamber that my type A personality can't tolerate, so I'll take it a step further and press the button that is near the power button that releases the filter chamber. Now let me tell you that I sweep my kitchen daily and then vacuum up the pile with the DustBuster. After every job I like to empty the trash chamber... and after a month and a half of doing this daily, my filter has actually fallen into the trash EVERY time I have tried to clean it out! Okay, that's not entirely true... one time it fell onto the floor and dumped junk everywhere. Now, as if this poor design weren't enough, I have discovered that the suction (which was never spectacular to begin with) is so poor that you can't even pick up tiny crumbs and then if by some stroke of luck the little crumbs manage to make their way into the wand, they might just fall back out of the vacuum if you tip the nozzle downward. Wow. What else can I say?Soooo... if you like to dig your fingers through trash chambers or dump junk back onto the floor and sweep the same stuff up again and again, then this is the gadget for you! GRRRRRR.(Initial Review)My old Dustbuster was a 9volt model that IMO was the best that ever was. I'm pretty sure that it was the reason Dustbuster earned their reputation in hand held vacuums. My old 9volt started having issues after about 6 years of intense usage and about a year ago I searched the market for a replacement. Actually I had initially just wanted replacement parts, but Dustbuster quit offering the parts I needed 'cuz they knew they'd lose sales if their old machines were allowed to live out their lives uninterrupted... (kind of like the older model Toyotas--but that's another story.) I was so unimpressed with what the newer Dustbusters had to offer that I eeked out another year of use on my old 9volt before finally splurging to buy this one. It works--don't get me wrong--but the design really doesn't excite me. It's bulky, long, and awkward. It's challenging to get the front piece off to dump out the debris--which also tends to get stuck in the machine so you end up having to dig the junk out with your fingers. What a pain! I never had to mess with that with my old 9volt. I also liked the shape of my old 9volt much better. And where the 9volt charged while hanging on the wall, all of the new Dustbusters require that the unit be plugged in separately--adding what is in my opinion another unnecessary step. Now, from the standpoint of optimizing battery life, you might be thinking that it's better to let the battery lose its charge before plugging it in again--but I can assure you that after using this newer machine for a little while, it will need to be plugged into the charger. I wouldn't say that it's defective in any way, but it's disappointing that instead of improving upon their design, it's a definite downgrade. The reviews on almost all of their handheld models seems to reflect this fact. What a bummer.

A little tough to get the hang of, but I shall overcome!
This 1510 replaces a 7 year old Dustbuster that I really liked. That machine died a slow death, first because the contacts got a bit mashed, and partly because one day it just wouldn't charge. Period. Dead as a doornail. Of course, replacement parts are no longer available.I researched the new Dustbusters. I noted that the 1510 is identical to the 1410 except for the color and a slight increase in power. I opted for the 1510 because I could get a "used" one through amazon at the same price as a new 1410. The description said that the item would come repackaged. Nothing was said about dents, scratches, etc. Well, the package arrived and it was the original packaging. The machine looks as if it were never removed from the box. The instruction manual has a wrinkled page, as it had been removed, looked at, and not-so-carefully replaced in the box. So it appears that I saved more than 10% because of a wrinkled page. I can live with that. Now to the machine. It is way more powerful than my old 9.6V, as one would hope. It sucked things up very well. The telescoping extension wand is longer than the one on the 9.6V and really helps extend both your reach and the places IT can reach. The manual said to let the thing run out of juice after charging it the first time, so I did, but I did it mainly by vacuuming here and there. When the power ran out, I emptied the thing and was amazed at the dust bunnies and other stuff that it had sucked up. Wow! I did have a little trouble popping the thing apart in order to access the filters, and I wasn't quite sure I put the paper filter into the filter holder correctly, even though I THINK I followed the instructions. I am hoping that the clips will work better as time goes by.As for noise, yup, it is definitely louder than my old 9.6V, as other reviewers noted (or complained about). On the other hand, the batter is in the 1510, where it was in the base of the 9.6V, and that is a big advantage, at least for me, since the contacts were part of the problem with the old machine. Also, I don't plan on vacuuming my whole house with this device, so the noise is very tolerable for short periods of use.I really like the telescoping wand and the attached brush. I had read about problems with the wand closing itself when a bit of pressure was applied, but I tried pushing it and had no problem. Maybe B and D heard the complaints and fixed the problem.Though I have only used the machine once, I would recommend it. I would note that I ordered an extra filter from a source on amazon but not fulfilled by by amazon because (a) it was cheaper, and (b) it is being sent from a state where there is no amazon warehouse and thus they don't collect state tax. (I do, of course, pay state income taxes on internet items not taxed at the time of purchase....)I have one other comment: I read a lot of the reviews on Dustbusters and and asked/answered questions, both of which confirmed what I preach to my children (and anyone else whom I can get to listen to me): READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!! The ones for this little machine are not very long, and definitely instructive. Many of the questions and concerns that people wrote about are in that little booklet. If my opinion of this Dustbuster changed, I will post any necessary revisions.

but I would not recommend people buying it
Is alright for the price, but I would not recommend people buying it. Is very loud, not a lot of suction, the flip out brush head is useless and is bit heavy compare to Dyson. I would recommend save your money and buy a Dyson. But my most favorite handheld vacuum would be my Makita 12V vacuum. Is lightweight, powerful enough and all the internal component can detach to clean. Dyson is good power with long battery life and stylish looking, but cleaning the internal component is impossible. The cyclone part can not be detach and there is no way to clean inside of the cyclone. For the Makita, if you are using the 10V/12V system, you most likely to have a another battery, so you will not going run out of battery.

Lasted only about a year
This worked great when I first purchased it, but after one year the suction only lasted a few minutes before the battery would die. Can't replace the battery and no longer charges

PERFECT FOR APARTMENTS AND QUICK TIDYING!!
This hand vacuum is AWESOME!! Living in an apartment with mostly wood flooring means that I don't really need a big, heavy vacuum but this small, light option is exactly what I needed. I have two long haired cats and this is my BEST FRIEND when cleaning off furniture, or anything else where they have left piles of fur. The extendable nozzle is a dream, and makes cleaning the sides of couches/chairs really easy. The small flip brush is good and really does help lift and pick up hair but it could be bigger and more sturdy (mine snapped off within 3 weeks). I use it every day, multiple times a day to tidy and clean EVERY SINGLE room in my house! I LOOOOOOVE that it recharges and I can quickly grab it and take it anywhere I need to clean up in less than a minute. I don't know what I'd do without it!

The Batteries are Junk Ni-Cads
This is a nice looking fairly powerful portable vacuum with a nice design. Unfortunately, Black and Decker are sneaking in Ni-Cad batteries which are obsolete and pretty well worthless. This is a real shame and irresponsible behaviour by this major company who should know better but greed got the better of them. I bought it assuming current battery technology in November 2015. The battery life start diminishing shortly after purchase and has been inadequate for well over a year now. The last time I tried it they lasted about 5 seconds. It will not work using just AC power and replacement batteries are not readily available. I had no choice but to throw the vacuum out after just over 3 years. Sneakily B&D do not mention the presence of the obsolete Ni-Cads any where in the listing. I opened the vacuum up to recycle the batteries and was surprised to see that they had actually used a Ni-Cad battery pack but it did explain the poor performance of the, otherwise very nicely designed, unit. Don't buy this, you'll be throwing out way too soon.

Handy Vacuum Cleaner
This is a handy vacuum cleaner around the kitchen for minor things and even the car. Have used this for a week now. Its a little bigger than some of the other ones out there. Works great, has good suction and has worked for cleaning jobs upto 7-10 minutes haven't tried to use it longer but appears to hold charge. The battery is older NiCd type 15.6 V but works fine for us. Especially at the price I got it. Holds garbage in unlike some others where trash falls back out when you point back down. Easy to clean out when full. Wall hook (with screws) is added to let you hang it on the kitchen wall.
