WTB Slick Hybrid Bike Tire (29” x 2.2”) Wire Bead - All Weather Traction - Great for Commuters

I have an XL Marlin 5 and along with the XR3's it comes with I also have 2 other sets of off-road tires. I wanted a MTB tire that was good on pavement and trails. It doesn't exist. After purchasing Schwalbe Fat Franks and really not liking them, I decided on these. One of my favorite rides I do most often is a 5 mile loop 6-8 times that is 100% roads. I do the loop because I don't like carrying stuff on my bike unless I have to (extra tube, pump), so if I do get a flat I am at most 2.5 miles from home. I can deal with a 3 mile walk. 7/13/21 UPDATE On my 2nd ride with these I ran over a nail and popped tire. Take that how you want to but I find it peculiar I got a flat so fast. Could be just a coincidence but it seems to me that these are not puncture resistant at all. If I get another flat soon I will update and knock it down 1 star. These are everything you'd expect them to be compared to MTB tires: quiet, smooth, fast and cool looking. Instantly makes your 29er look faster and cooler. Super simple putting on. I am rolling on 51psi and it is nice and firm but still allowing the slicks to really touch the road. I ride road bikes too and a 2.2" slick compared to a 1" slick is insane. You get the road tire speed and comfort with the grip of a MTB which is really noticeable around corners. You can feel the edges of the tire digging in and it allows you to speed through corners confidently. I feel like I stumbled upon a monster with these shoes on my Marlin 5. I can get up around 40mph and average around 20. With MTB tires I was maxing out at 32 & 18, respectively. Those extra MPH's are really noticeable to me. Throw in the fact that it is a 29" tire over 2" wide and you still get the off-roading capabilities of a MTB. I am not saying these should be your trail shoes, but if your ride/commute has a bit of off-road stuff you'll be fine. They seem solid but do not have kevlar so we'll see how easy it punctures. Cannot recommend these enough! Ordered 2 and they came in separate huge boxes, not bent up or anything. Most tires I get come balled or in no packaging at all, so that was nice. I will update this if I have any issues. I will also update with mileage when they have seen their last ride. Do yourself a favor and get these shoes! You will not be dissappointed.

First and foremost,These are excellent tires! They were exactly what I was looking for, The perfect upgrade for my mtb. I ride 10 miles for fitness on a mix of pavement and dirt roads 4 days a week. I wanted to go faster, and with these on, I fly! These made a huge difference from the bontragers that came with my bike. The tires roll very well, and are very quiet. Wet performance is great too. I have put about 100 miles on them and so far no punctures. The bad.... they r slicks, not knobby mtb tires or hybrid tires, stick to pavement... they are designed for road use. When it comes to dirt, sand or anything slightly off road they loose traction. Sidewalls look thin.But as far as cornering, they perform excellent. No problems taking fast curves. So besides loosing the trail capability of your mtb, if you ride for fitness, or regularly commute on the bike, these are great. Bike is 2015 Trek marlin 6.

I put these on my Trek Excalibur. They make the ride smoother and quieter. I have had so many comments about my knobbies being noisy and even was told by someone that they thought they were being chased by a swarm of bees plus I can save them for winter and off road. This is a very comfortable tire and 55 psi. It is rated at 65 psi max, so they can be made pretty hard if you choose. Installing these tires are different than regular bike tires. When installing 29ers on a disc wheel set you have to put a small amount of air (about 1/2 full) in the tires and work them around pushing down with your thumbs to make sure the bead is set in place. Then fill the tires the rest of the way. The tires do run out of true slightly but nothing to be concerned about. They seem well made and will last a long time.

This is a pretty large tire, so be sure your bike can support it. The advantage of a bigger tire like this is that you can really adjust the comfort. Less pressure gives a much smoother ride, while more pressure reduces friction for easier pedaling on longer rides. I'd say really good value for money, and they are holding up really well for me after several long rides.

These tires are amazing grip, quality and the looks is beyond my expectations.

Unfortunately, I don't always get to ride my mountain bike down an actual Mountain, sad but true. Even though I have a regular commuter bike to ride to work occasionally I do want to spend time on my MTB. I bought these tires so I could run my mountain bike on the road as smoothly as my commuter bike and was expecting tires similar to what I have on my commuter bike. I was surprised at how beefy these tires were the thickness of the rubber was just as heavy-duty as my Maxis off-road tires just smooth instead of knobby. Before I purchased I anticipated having to be careful to not get flats or be sure to take it easy with these wheels. But as it turns out these tires are tougher than I anticipated and they do make Writing On Pavement super smooth with plenty of channels for handling the wet.

Overall nice tires. The only negative feedback is that I bought one tire new and the other "like new" from the same Amazon provider. They arrived in separate packages. One came with white lettering and the other black.

I bought this tire for my mountain bike late March 2025. They weee easy to install and I was off. For over 4 months, I have been biking on them multiple times a week. I have more than 2,150 miles on them and still going strong. When I converted to them from traditional mountain bike tires, my pace picked up. I had one flat that was no fault of the tire (Colorado has something called goat heads that will penetrate the toughest tire popping the tube. In the field, I swapped the tube and was back up and going quickly. I strongly recommend them.

Las he usado para comenzar a hacer carretera en el Pirineo con una bici de montaña. Todo bien. Ahora que las tengo montadas, de lo que estoy seguro es de que son óptimas para usar una MTB para moverse por la ciudad. He pasado por alguna zona (corta) con grava y carretera rota, por obras, y al ser anchas las cubiertas se han comportado genial.

I converted my mountain bike into an urban commuter, I did not want to wear out my MTB tires so I gave these a go. I love the way they look and it gave me much better road performance. I notice that it did increase my speed on the road and it has good traction as well. I highly recommend these tires!
