I bought first one conected with signal but would not pick up 3rd party signal sent it back and ordered another one this time it didnt send wifi signal to lap top sent that back and got thered leads

Ok, I don't want to be too negative here, but I will write my genuine experience of this unit, which for the record I bought as the specs looked good, and I read some decent reviews. For a quick bit of background, prior to using this system, my TP-Link TL-MR3040 which I was running DSLR controller firmware and app through, gave up on me. That app for me is now defunct. TP-Link discontinued the TL-MR3040 (probably because CamRanger were using the very same WiFi unit) and they are now gold dust. The other DSLR controller compatible routers are no longer available either. It was a very good and stable open source platform, well played, but it's now dead unless you still have some of the compatible old routers. I rely heavily on wireless tethering for my workflow, and I mean I cannot work without it.....to a degree at least. It just makes my chosen workflow a lot quicker. So lets get to the meat and bones of why the CamFi is getting returned. The unit I received had a workable range of about 5 metres, in line of sight exclusively, anywhere outwith line of sight and the communication was severed. The stated range is 60 metres, ergo one of the reasons I purchased it. This diminished range for me was a problem straight away, I shoot interiors for the best part, which means I need more than 5 metres range for composite flash work. Also on the image review side, it kept insisting on sending the RAW files, even though I had set it up to send small JPEG's. I only need small JPEG's on my tablet screen for review, to check lighting, exposure and composition, small JPEG's men fast review over transmission. The unit is well built, and when I was within the 5 metre range, totally stable, no complaints. The app was intuitive, the interface was pleasant enough, and fairly easy to use, all of which is by the wayside for me considering the aforementioned flaws. I used a wireless range extender in bridge mode, which helped alleviate some of my issues, but not to the point of it being usable for commercial work. My TP-Link TL-MR3040 with the DSLR controller app blew it out the water. By a country mile. I'd like to see CamFi succeed. I think the unit has potential, I like the app, but for me the product I got sent was pretty much useless. Maybe I had a faulty unit, I'd like to think so, I'm only going with what I was sent, and my experience with what I got sent. It's £300.00, I'd expect a lot better at that price. I've since ordered a CamRanger Mini, I have high hopes. Fingers crossed they aren't crushed. I think there is huge potential in this niche market place. The CamRanger 2 looks promising, but it will likely be next year before we see that in the UK and I'm guessing £500.00 price point, which is outrageous considering my original DSLR Controller set up. I need something that can do what my £30.00 TP-Link/DSLR controller set up did, and sadly the CamFi unit I was sent fell disastrously short of the mark. Parting shot is I wish CamFi all the best, if I've been sent a faulty unit, then I'll happily amend this review to reflect that, again, I'm only going on my experience with what I've been sent. I'm not looking to give anyone a hard time, this is my experience, I wasted a fair bit of time and money getting to this point, hopefully CamFi will get in touch, I'm sure we can track the unit and find out if it is indeed faulty. I'm not in any way affiliated with DSLR Controller, which at this point doesn't really matter, as I'll probably never be able to use their app again as there is now no longer any compatible hardware. But for £30.00 and a wireless tethering system that served me very well for many years, I take my hat off to them. Well played, it was good while it lasted. Quick update, I have changed my rating from 1 star to 4, the good people at CamFi sent me out a replacement unit, which I have only tested very quickly, but initial tests are positive in comparison to the original unit I purchased and returned. However, I haven't tested it as extensively as I would like at this point, and I will be doing that soon, and posting the results on my youtube channel, which is starting this year. I'll post links on this review when I have completed the tests. I would like to say thanks to Shirley specifically at CamFi for her amazing customer service at this point, this had a bearing on my rating, as previously mentioned I have high hopes for this product, I hope it can be a permanent part of my kit bag.
