Named the Greatest Album of All Time by Rolling Stone Magazine, Sgt Pepper celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year with a new mix. To create Sgt. Pepper's new stereo mix, producer Giles Martin oversaw an expert team at Abbey Road Studios in London, sourced directly from the four-track masters produced by his father, George Martin. Upon its release in 1967, the album held the number one spot for 15 weeks and won a Grammy Award for Album of The Year. Review: Top ten album of all time - The Beatles. Nuff said Review: This is by far the best version of this Beatles' hit classic - The sound quality has been digitally enhanced and the new remix brings out a much richer, bigger sound with unbelievable clarity of the voices and instruments. I already had two previous versions of Sgt Pepper in my music library but this 50th Anniversary Edition was worth every penny! With headphones on, it's like being right there in the studio with The Beatles.

Figured out why I love it
I finally figured out why I like the remix, has to do with the 'pictures in my head' I get when listening to music. (no, really) The mono version had me sitting in an auditorium being blasted by a glorious monolithic wall of sound. Perhaps a little dated, quaint, but still pretty damn good. The remix has me standing IN the studio, with the guys sitting around me, singing and playing their individual parts. Clean, sharp sound quality of sound, in-your-face presence, especially the drums, as many have remarked. And the stereo separation adds to the visuals. Macca's bass is ridiculously busy (in a good way) and well defined, especially on the Mr Kite track. I almost visualize him sitting in front of his Vox amp churning away. (Yeah I know he recorded his parts directly to the console on Pepper. But my image is cooler) Somehow, Niles managed to get an 8-track Abbey Road 'contemporary' sonic recording experience out of multilayered 4 track tapes. And it is SO different from the original. oldFartBassPlayer Walt

Maravillosamente estilizado con canciones y sonidos sutiles pero distintivos. “A day in the life”, entre las mejores.

A different take on a classic
I first heard this album on a neighbor's big console stereo when it came out in 67 when I was 7. It was and is amazing music and I'll never forget how it impacted me. Now, I'm comparing this 2017 remix CD with a 1987 CD. Yes, it's louder and yes there is more booming bass but... With the new mix, you can hear more into the songs - it seems like the voices and instruments are better separated in the mix. I always thought my old CD was kind of shrill and couldn't crank it up without fatigue where this one is smoother and cranks fatigue free. I'm not sure which better represents what the original intent was but I love this new one. I won't get rid of either CD.

A blast from the past.
A blast from the past. Can't believe I still know the words to every song. I'm 70. I play it in my car all the time.

Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (50th Anniversary 1 cd edition) When I first bought this album in the summer of 1983, I fell in love with it after a couple of plays on my record player. It had so much vibrancy, life, colour and expression. It transported me to a time that was full of hope and love, even though I was way to young to remember it for myself. The lp was from the original stereo mix. Moving on to 1987 when I bought the first cd version of the album (This was released on the album’s 20th Anniversary) This was mastered from the same stereo mix as my vinyl lp, however, though it revealed more treble detail, in comparison it sounded thin and lifeless. It was huge disappointment as compact discs were marketed as an audiophile medium at the time. It kind of put me off from playing the album for many years. Fast forward to September 2009, when they remastered the entire Beatles studio album back catalogue. I bought the Sgt Peppers remastered cd in the hope that it would sound better than the 1987 master. Yes it had more body and warmth than the original cd, but it still lacked the sonic eloquence and expression of my vinyl lp. It was the same stereo mix again. Now It’s May 2017 and I have just listened to the 50th Anniversary stereo remix of Sgt Peppers on cd. I was worried that I would be disappointed. But what can I say? Wow! Wow! and Wow! It sounds absolutely amazing. It has all the sonic eloquence and expression of my original lp and so much more - detail, space, depth, exuberance and life. I have fallen in love with this album and, been transported back to 1967 all over again. Thank you Giles Martin! If you have wondered why this is rated as one of the best albums of all time. Here is why. Buy this version and you will not be disappointed.
