Bluetooth leaves much to be desired

I have been using this brand of filters for awhile, and have been very happy with the results.Recently I purchased the Bluetooth 1900 filters hoping that the technology would help me stretch out the life of my filters and prevent me from replacing them to early. I have been severely disappointed. I installed the filters on 01/01/19. Unexpectedly I had to have a major construction project done in my house where ebony stained oak stair treads were completely sanded down. This project happened on 01/02/2019. As you can guess, my filters are almost entirely clogged with black saw dust from the stain being sanded down. This is what would be expected and I am happy the filters captured the particulate matter. However, the Bluetooth sensor is saying the filters are still at 99% life remaining when I can visibly see that they are clogged. For this reason I am really disappointed and untrusting of the blue tooth technology. I don’t think it is accurately collecting data and would not spend the extra money on these filters again. ( I have made sure that my Bluetooth connection to the app is working properly).I first laughed at the the thought of smart filters, but decided to give it a chance. Wish I had not as this is really just a novelty that has not worked.

Is the "Smart" worth it? I'm over it!

Let's get the important part out of the way. These Filtrete filters do a great job at what they're intended to do, filter your air! No doubt about it, my MPR 1900 filters did a great job there. Now for the frustration! The first one in the pack paired up with my phone nicely... ONCE. After it was installed, it never again synced with the phone to give accurate air quality or filter life info. That's kind of the whole point. And no, you can't repair to it like a Bluetooth headset. I thought maybe this was just a bad sensor in filter 1, so after about a month and a half when the app's algorithm estimated that it needed replacement, I tried out filter #2.The second filter took about an hour and a half before I could get it to pair. It also did the same as the first filter and hasn't "talked" back to the app since. I've reached out to Filtrete's support with no reply (thanks guys). At this point, I'm so past the "Smart" part of these things and will just replace normal filters on schedule.

The bluetooth thingy is a mere timer

You pay on average $5 more just for this bluetooth TIMER, not airflow monitor, vs. non-smart model of same efficiency.Someone has dissected this yellow thingy and confirmed that it's a mere timer with zero intelligence. Sure the app does factor in your zip region's air quality to calibrate the end time but it can't factor in how often and much we open windows, etc. Hence in the end, it's a mere timer, which you can achieve easily with a recurrent Google Calendar event. After using Smart model for nearly a year and after it reminds me on the 3-mo mark every single time, I gave up all hopes that it's anything more than a timer. So I'm reverting back to the normal model and save some money.

More than I originally thought.

I took one apart and was surprised to see a MEMS (Microelectromechanical systems) pressure transducer. That doesn't mean they aren't still using this gimmick to sell filters. And in fact, if the app were written with true user-friendliness in mind, it would provide some indication of barometric pressure feedback. IMO.I'm not an engineer (Do you care?) and I don't work in IT (What about that?). I am a retired engineering technologist (You shouldn't care about that, either.)Do I recommend these? Nah. But not because they're not "Smart" or "Stupid." Fitretes are good filters so get the proper ones for your situation (Do your homework.) at the lowest price you can find.

A great product is useless without technical support as promised by the manufacturer.

The filter is an ordinary filter with blue tooth technology. The system worked great for 3 weeks then the bluetooth connection failed. After 2 phone calls and 2 email sessions, Filtrete has not responded as promised. The filter is ok but the technology is faulty. The biggest issue is failure to provide the promised service after the sale.UPDATE: I had a great experience speaking with a customer service rep who tried everything he knows to fix the issue. The attempts to correct the issue failed so the customer rep sent the issue to tech support. If tech support responds my rating will improve. If all of the staff at Filtrite were as accommodating as Customer Service the rating would be 5 stars.

Good filter, not sure about the monitoring though, seems spotty

After using for 2 weeks, I have noticed a slight reduction in dust accumulation around my home, which is what I was hoping for with the Merv 13 filter. I have not noticed any drop in air flow. Our home is in a new development with construction going on all around us. The dust can be horrible. This filter seems to be effective and in reducing the dust compared to the 3M Merv 11 filter we used previously.Filter fit as expected in furnace filter slot (16×25×1). Trane XT95 Furnace, 2 years old.Bluetooth pairing via Filtrete app was fast and straightforward on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10+Received several push notifications from Filtrete app since install indicating filter was disconnected from Bluetooth and no longer being monitored. Reconnected each time without issue via Filtrete app.If the filter needs to be connected via Bluetooth to an app on my phone and is going to disconnect every time I am out of range of the filter then reconnect when I am in range I won't buy it again. Having a furnace filter tied to a phone app doesn't allow the filter to be monitored unless I am home, that seems silly. Will have to read more about the technology to understand how it is using Bluetooth and staying connected without my device present. My home is considered a "smart home", every appliance, light, outlet, security system, etc in my home is a connected device. All of my connected devices use wifi, which makes perfect sense considering they are stationary in my home. I'm a little perplexed by this filter using Bluetooth.
