Q: Is the swordfish scholar good for pastel pencils

I've used mine on quite a range of pencils with really good success. There's a 'point' adjustment that allows you to sharpen pencils to a very sharp point or to a more rounded, blunt point. I use the blunt point setting for more delicate pencils as it seems to prevent the lead from breaking and saves me from having to round off the lead on scrap paper before I use it. As Tomcan says, it's manual and easy to control - I'd think you'd get good results with pastels.

Q: Where can I buy a new blade for this please?? It was working fab but somehow keeps on snapping the end of the pencil point off.

Q: Does this pencil sharpener sharpen chunky triangular pencils like those used by 4/5 year olds?

Hi Laura, I tried a large triangular pencil and although it does just fit into the oprning it did resist when trying tosharpen. In my opinion it would only suit round pencils of standard size.

Q: What sort of shavings does this sharpener produce? Normal shavings like in the photo or sawdust curls?

I would say sawdust curls. Definitely not like the big, flat shavings produced by a small blade sharpener.
