Do you know the muffin fan?
Is the fan able to be connected to a dimmer to lower the power of the fan or will that damage the motor?
Can't find a dimmer that works. What do you use that's listed on Amazon?
Can the fan be mounted horizontally as well as vertically? I need to down draft carving dust. Thanks!

Sweet little Muffin

Dig these 1238s a lot! Solid price, robust aluminum frame, mounting hardware, grill guards and power cord. I upgraded to a dual fan setup with speed control for a project when I thought one was enough, and that’s what I like about these too, very easy to upgrade and configure. I didn’t have to clip strip and heat shrink anything. They run so quiet and worked right out the box. I have other products of theirs and all just feel so premium. I feel like I need to make up projects so I had an excuse to get more to use haha. These fans at this price help so much for low budget diy projects. Listing the specs and everything also very helpful, will suggest to anyone in need of a fan for their project. I’m truly a fan… of these fans… 😅

High quality product, great customer service, rugged

First off, let me say that AC infinity has exceptional customer service. I had some concerns about my fan right around Christmas time, and they were very willing to assist me. You should have confidence in support buying this product. Now for the actual fan it’s self. Right out of the box, I can tell this is a strong fan. It boasts a heavier weight than most crappy usb fans because it’s made of metal, and I adore that. You would really have to try to break it. I have a mind to do a drop test Incase it ever came loose from its support, but I predict it would damage the floor!!It moves a lot of air, runs quiet, and has a versatile design. This sets the standard for a quality DIY fan. It’s offered at an exceptional price, and I doubt there are other options offered at this price point with this quality. So, if you are considering buying this to use for a mini grow room, attic ventilation, cooling, or any project that requires air flow, get it. I would go as far as to say you could use this to promote airflow in a living room. It moves a ton of air.The ONLY area that could be improved on is the plug. This is the only part of the fan that could potentially give out, however I’ve yet to see that happen. I even bent the prongs by trying to plugin the fan backwards, but after forcing it back in the right way, I got it working again.Exercise a bit of caution when plugging it in and out, and you will be set. Awesome product, would recommend.

This is an excellent, high-flow project fan-- high-quality worksmanship and durable

I bought one of these to try an experiment-- my bathroom doesn't have an exhaust fan; could I create one that could be automated?First off, the fan is substantial-- that is a metal housing, with a metal grating (reversible), and solid household 110 lead (which is socketed at the fan, also). The fan fits well in a small window I have in that bathroom, and I was able to run the wire to a software-controllable smart outlet, and integrate the fan into scenes and verbal commands. I was also able to set up a rule to turn the fan off automatically after 30 minutes. The only two downmarks I have for the fan are that 1) it comes with only one grill-- meaning one side of the fan is going to be exposed and it WILL damage your fingers, 2) it's quite audible-- not hugely loud like a jet engine, but it's a high volume fan in a small form factor. You might want to think twice if you're planning on sleeping next to it.By contrast, I looked for vendors in China that might supply a similar fan. I did find an almost-identical seeming product and ordered a couple, but unfortunately, they are much closer to PC case fans-- 100% plastic, no reversible/removable grill, and while rated for 110, they provide fairly short, very thin leads that are embedded on the fan side. There wasn't that much of a cost difference.

Works well but a bit noisy.

Works very well, if a bit noisy. I use them to keep my Xbox Series X cool and they work well.

This is an excellent fan, but loud

I was extremely impressed with the quality of this fan and the amount of air that it moves, but it was too loud for my application (ventilation for a plant case). I ended up returning this and replacing it with the same AC Infinity fan but with a variable speed switch so that I could control the speed and volume. There is nothin wrong with this fan and I love AC Infinity. I just prefer this model with a dimmer.

Quiet fan

Works great. Quiet on the low setting.

MY SOLAR POWER INVERTER RUNS COOLER

MY SOLAR POWER INVERTER RUNS COOLER.Solar power inverters tend to run warm, especially the low frequency transformer-based ones. My vertically mounted Sigineer 6kW unit, roughly equivalent to an AIM’s or SunGoldPower unit (Sigineer is the OEM) tends to draw a fair amount of current just idling (roughly 100 watts), let alone running at 25% to 45% load. Measuring the case with a non-contact thermometer showed temperatures in spots of 135°-145°F even with a small circulator fan pointed at the setup. My solar generation station is in a corner of my shop which runs at or just above the outside temperature due to a powered high-CFM gable fan. Needless to say, with Texas temps around 100-108°F, that doesn’t help much for cooling. Wanting the inverter to last as long as possible, I figured adding a high-CFM fan to help lower the inverter’s temperature might increase the lifespan. I added this just sitting on top of the inverter’s exit fan (which doesn’t turn on until the inverter reaches certain loads or higher temperatures). It worked! Lowered the highest spot temperatures to around 125°F. Sure the fan makes a fair amount of noise, but it is out in the shop where it really doesn’t matter with the other fans going. I have the fan on a timer along with that gable fan so that they don't run at night. Since both are powered by the solar inverter, might as well use the more-than-enough energy produced. I don’t have any take on the fan’s longevity, but the housing of the unit is well-built out of a metal casting. The temps on the fan’s motor/main bearing unit are running a bit higher than my liking (145°F during the day), but hopefully the bearing grease is also high temperature capable. Overall, it appears that the fan is a capable unit. I would recommend it.
