Works Great!
I bought this kit after attempting to make bokashi in a beverage dispenser with a tap (not recommended, btw). I thought the price of this kit was a little high, but it was comparable to others and included more accessories. I especially like that it comes with a good-sized bag of bokashi bran, which was enough for me to fill the bucket twice. The tap has worked great for draining off the leachate, and I have not had an issue with it becoming clogged, as others have mentioned. I followed the instructions exactly and the bokashi that was created has really improved the quality of my compost. The leachate makes the BEST plant food ever for houseplants. Mine have never looked better. The bucket is easy to clean and the lid is tight enough to create the anaerobic environment that is needed for fermentation. It is not true that there’s no odor, but with the lid in place you can’t smell anything. I keep mine in the garage. Another bonus is the little kitchen compost bucket, which I keep under the sink and empty into the big bucket when it’s full-this minimizes the number of times I open the big bucket and expose the contents to oxygen.

Bokashi composting is great
This bucket was designed to use for indoor composting because the plastic releases most of the odor from composting and cleans up very well. I've recycled a 5 gal bucket, it's dull plastic, with an air-tight lid to use as a 2nd bucket for composting, but it's not the correct plastic to use because it retains the odor for quite awhile. The spigot works great and the bokashi liquid is great to use diluted for plant fertilizer and for cleaning the sink drain. The fertilizer cannot be stored for more than one day because it gets offensive after that. One time I accidentally forgot to close the spigot and the cup overflowed (way too much liquidy kitchen waste in bucket) and the result was the cement floor in the garage was cleaned up very well (the original floor color could be seen by the stream of bokashi juice). The bran that came with the kit was awesome so therefore when it was finished, I ordered 3 bags of it but it turned out that this "bran" had an awful odor, the bag states that it can contain animal products, it wasn't 100% wheat or rice bran, and the finished compost was putrid. This Jan 2014 I did find another source online for 100% wheat bran and this bran is very good smelling. It's great that the kit came with both the square presser and the black masher because the kitchen waste needs pressed down and these tools wash up very well. The beige compost metal bucket with the black plastic pail looks nice on the kitchen countertop and is nice to have for collecting the waste until it's time to add it to the bokashi bucket.

So far so good
Just got this about a week ago, so haven't had a chance to fill it up and ferment it just yet, but it's about 2/3rds full and seems to be working quite well so far. No leaks, no cracks, no weird smells... everything seems to be going as it should. It is a bit difficult to get the spigot screwed in tightly due to not having enough space to get a good grip to install, but I was able to manage and haven't had any issues with leakage... and per another user's recommendation, I bought a 3/4" mesh pipe filter to put in the spigot to avoid clogging, and that seems to be working out quite well. All in all, I am pleased with it, and super excited to turn food waste into gardening soil! My only issue is that every time I open the lid to add more scraps, my cat tries to climb in to inspect things! So if you have pets, things can get a little interesting... otherwise it's great, and hopefully will make for some wonderful food for my garden.

delicious... ask my weimar-Dane
First let me start with the complete kit: everything arrived as described and is very high quality. (The directions are translated from Japanese but are not difficult to understand.) Second, I read all of the reviews I could find prior to my purchase and focused on the issues other reviewers had with the spigot. We went to a cigar store and bought cigar screens (I think the standard is size 5) and braced one inside of the spigot on the inside of the bucket. It fit perfectly with a little convincing. I definitely recommend this additional step to filter the liquid before it can clog the spigot. Third, we did not have any odors (no dead bodies, as one reviewer described). We did not open the unit often and we are vegetarian so there are no meat or bones added to our Bokashi. My fourth comment is very unusual, perhaps, but true. Our 9 year old 100lb Great Dane-weimaraner mix who never chews anything in our house (and is certified therapy dog), found the Bokashi to be absolutely delicious! In fact, it was sooo delicious that our unit was completely left unusable since the possibility of an air-tight seal was rendered impossible. Additionally, Winston (the Weimar-Dane) highly recommends the Bokashi bran as an after-dinner apperatif. (He snuck off with the bag and brought it to his dog bed.) The additional benefits, as he claims and as we witnessed firsthand, are extremely regular bowel movements for approximately 3 days. My ultimate advice: if you have a large dog with a hint of mischief anywhere in his soul, perhaps consider hiding or barricading your Bokashi otherwise it might turn out like the photos I have attached. LOL.

Great product, so far.
Only have had this a few days, it arrived quickly and in good condition. Bokashi bran smells ok, no complaints here. Assembled spigot ok, but I haven't had to drain yet. Overall, no issues at first glance. Will update in a few weeks. 8/16/15 Update: Maybe 1 or 2 weeks away from filling the tub completely, and I am half-way done with the bokashi bran the kit came with. Between this and last week, the juice finally started to flow, and I am still not seeing any issues with the spigot. I forgot to mention in my original review that the kit came with everything I needed, which was great. There are no funky smells or bugs near the tub, and I am happy to report that my biggest worry (the tub not remaining completely sealed) has not materialized into a real problem. As far as the process itself, it's extremely easy, although I haven't thought too much about the burial part yet. But in any case, I am very satisfied with my decision to buy this kit. I am getting ready to buy my second one, so this first one's contents can pickle for a few weeks. In hindsight, I should have bought 2 kits at the same time, although I only got one to see how I liked it and whether or not this would be for me.

Works but leaks
It turned out pretty easy to use so far. I’ve put food scraps and bokashi grains but will not be done for a few more days. I did notice the bucket was leaking onto the ground, so I put a tray under it should it happen again (I expect it will). When I was installing the spigot I noticed it couldn’t really get a tight seal, the plastic washer just kept turning. Maybe that’s where the leak is coming from. May return, may keep. Not sure.

Great indoor composter
I came across this product after I found mice in our outdoor compost bin, and I was looking for a way to keep mice from getting in the compost. I read about bokoshi and Sunwood Life had the best price. I love that free shipping is included. The product arrived after about 9 days, containing everything expected. I like that a kitchen bucket for collecting the food scraps is included. A nice instruction manual is included, although there are a few typos/errors in it, but it's still easy to understand. I'm excited about being able to compost more materials than I can in my outdoor bin (meat, dairy, cooked food) and to be able to collect the juice for plant food. I'm hoping that using the bokashi then putting that fermented material into the outdoor compost bin will prevent more mice from coming.

Excellent Kit to Start Bokashi
Have completed our first bokashi bin and are very happy we chose this kit. The countertop container is very useful and attractive and saves multiple trips to the bin with kitchen waste. The container itself was easy to assemble and use. The only thing I would recommend is an additional bin to continue your composting for the time while you are waiting for the first bin to complete fermentation, at least 2 weeks. We ordered an additional bin separately after we realized this. If you have a lot of kitchen waste you might even want a third. The holding tank at the bottom makes it very easy to drain off the liquid that accumulates. We are working on our second bin and it's working great! Between this and our vermicomposting bin (worm composting) we send almost no kitchen waste to the landfill and have a rich source of organic compost for our vegetable garden and flowers.
