probably no as long as there's some sort of metal on your case for it to stick to you should be fine.

Can this be used with a pop socket already on the phone?

Not really it's better to put the metal disk directly on the case itself. The pop socket tends to move and isnt very solid.

how well does this work with a magsafe case?

It will not work very well with your MagSafe magnets and If you stick the metal plates on your case you will loose the magsafe functions including charging
