The Spectrum 8th Grade Writing Workbook from Carson Dellosa is fantastic! The pages are colorful and engaging. They include subjects such as Foundations of Writing, Writing to Inform, Writing a Narrative, and Writing an Opinion. These are all phenomenal things to use either for summer bridge material or as a supplement to classroom assignments. These are highly engaging and include supplementary writing prompts and colorful reference charts at the back for students as well. I highly recommend this book!

These books are great for extra work at home. Got it for my sun to use during the summer and also for after school.

My 8th grader doesn't like to write and I wanted to find something for him that would ease him into it. This book was a perfect choice. The excerises aren't overwhelming or too long. He is easily intimidated by big assignments and this book made it easier to persuade him to write. I also like the variety of topics covered in the prompts.

In such cases, we've found supplemental videos and other educational resources to be incredibly helpful. The combination of these books and supplementary materials has been the key to a well-rounded education. I bought the Reading, Writing and Language Arts books for my 8th grader. His school has been virtual for over a year and I noticed some learning loss. This was my favorite of the three books. The writing assignments were easy to follow and I could see a definite improvement with my son’s writing.

Great textbook for 8th grade students

My child is in 6th grade. I use this book to help her catch up during Covid, stay at home, Zoom schooling. She only has 2 to 3 hours of schooling online per day and no homework. This book is self-explanatory and the lessons are easy to follow.

I got this for my daughter; we homeschool during the summer and she wanted to get ahead with her writing skills. She just finished 6th grade and we realized that most of this book was review. Some of the text examples seemed to be at a 5th grade reading level, which was disappointing for an 8th grade book, especially from Spectrum. Despite this, I found the depth of instruction to be surprisingly good. For example, in the creative writing chapter, the book discusses how to work details of a setting into the storyline without simply stating time and place. It also develops a young creative writer's style in terms of description, character development, and even dialogue. The other chapters go into similar depth with their subjects. It has solid instruction and practice activities, but they may not hold the attention of an 8th grader, and a student who already has a talent for writing will likely be bored. We've supplemented the lessons using real-life examples rather than those in the workbook.

My friend recommended this writing series. I bought them for my kid at junior high. Honestly writing books are good but too thin with less contents compared to price. as a writing book, i don`t know why publisher left huge blank under topic. Would it be left to kids for draft? anyway books are still good.
