I was expecting, like most textbooks, to be dry and a pain to read, but thus far, I have completed 3 chapters and it was a breeze. The writing style makes the information much more palatable. I never thought I'd enjoy learning this material as much as I have so far. The way the author approaches the content is unique (I'm comparing this against other textbooks I've read) and is, in no way, wordy, dry, nor is it a struggle to stay focused. While the book is well over 1000 pages, it doesn't feel like a challenge to read due to the way it is written. I am being well informed while also enjoying the content and the author's way of making something "dull' a little more fun and inviting. If anyone asked me what book to purchase about CompTIA A+ material, I would hands down tell them to purchase this one. 3 Chapters in and I couldn't wait any longer to write a review. This book has motivated me, given me hope, and is, thus far, giving me a reason to continue studying material for a future I never thought would be close to reality. If you're having second thoughts, don't. Just purchase the book and start reading. Grab those index cards, make notes, keep studying, and get your future on track with the help of 'CompTIA A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Tenth Edition (Exams 220-1001 & 220-1002)'. You will not be disappointed. Review: Great book and worth having around... - Okay, if you're into reading this type of stuff, meaning Comptia study guides and the like, I suppose the most important thing I can say about this book is that it is still relevant and important even though the 11th edition has been released. You see, the 10th edition was written by Mike Meyers, who is a big name in these types of guides. The 10th edition is also the LAST that was written by him. The 11th edition was written by a different author, with Mike Meyers being in the role of Senior Editor. Some folks seem to like Mike's writing style better. Ergo: The writing style is going to be different. There is newer information, but many people still fall back on Mike Meyers for a certain level of trust. Used copies of this book are typically under $10, so there is no reason not to have it nearby. As for myself, I'm studying for the test so I'm reading the previous edition first since I got a used copy dirt cheap. I'll read the newer edition next while I do the practice exams and other prep work. Anyway, great book. Good to keep around.

Great study resource!
This book is definitely a must-buy for anyone who is a beginner to the A+ material like I was. I read each page cover to cover, so I can tell you that Mike does a great job of explaining the material. As many other commenters have noted, there is definitely more fluff in this book than other textbooks covering A+ material; however, since I was new to most of this stuff, I really appreciated the extra explanations and descriptions that the author included. I read this book to give myself a foundation on the A+ concepts before moving to Professor Messer and watching/taking notes on his videos. In my opinion, reading this book first really helped me in learning about the different concepts and getting a better grasp on everything. As anyone who knows anything about the CompTIA exams will tell you, it's very important to use multiple resources in your study time to prepare for the exams. I highly recommend Mike's book, and I plan on buying his other books to study for Network+ and Security+. *For anyone who might find this helpful, my study plan consisted of reading this book, watching/taking notes on Messer's videos, taking ExamCram practice tests, and finally Professor Messer's practice tests.

Great book for people who know absolutely nothing about IT
This is a very good book. I already have prior experience with I.T. so a lot of the subjects were fluff to me. This book does come with free training videos but be aware that it only comes with a select few. You have to purchase the entire training videos in order to cover the entire book. However, do not, and I repeat DO NOT buy the videos. As I watched these videos whoever did the video editing did a poor job at prompting key words that he would say. An example of this is he would say something like RAM and the word that would pop up is I/O shield. Speaking of RAM he installs it wrong when he goes to show you how to install it. He says the U.S standard voltage is, and I quote, "100 and volts AC" and then the prompt pops up 115v. If you want videos Professor Messer on YouTube has got you covered. With all that being said this book, Professor Messer video's, and the Pearson Exam Cram book will definitely be all you need to pass the test.

Amazing Detail. Easy To Understand for Beginners. Best Book on A+ I've Read
I'm making a career change from HR into Networking and aside from a couple of drives I've added and some RAM, have very limited experience working on (repairing) computers. My first stop before continuing on to networking is the A+ certification. I've purchased several A+ study guides and this book is hands down, the best one I brought. Myers splits each chapter into two parts: 1) Historical / Conceptual - where he goes into great detail about the progression of specific technologies, advancements and an in-depth explanation of how each component/device works. 2) he then moves into the Practical stuff that not only is covered on the A+ Exam but it's also the knowledge you'd need if you were working in the industry repairing computers. This book provides a lot of detail and paints a clear picture of the different concepts, technologies and components being discussed. The Figures / Graphics and Photos are also an excellent aid.

Remember to Lift With Your Back
I got a backpack so I could carry along my study materials to work, but it didn't take into account how massive this book is. Part of that is due to the dumbed down nature of the writing. Everything is explained to you as if you've never seen a computer before, but that also means it's easy to skip around and get your bearings quick since you don't need context for all the complex terminology up front. I also personally think that repetition helps with the learning process, and with the sheer volume of resources in this book, I could see using it as a reference when (hopefully) I get a job working with machines. It also has a wealth of online resources including videos from the author. I've been following his courses on Lynda.com and though he jumps around a lot he seems pretty good at explaining concepts. 40 or so is a steal. Don't expect to tote this around with you casually. It really should have opened with proper lifting procedure to get you started.
