why is the band such a problem

Call 1-800-448-4639 for a replacement. I also think they have a band problem but I can't seem to keep my phone reliably charged to use that as an alternative yet. I've personally replaced my band twice already.

Does this watch have a large face or small one?

It's a perfect size for my 10 year old. I don't think it's too large.

I try looking for one everywhere but no use. So I just got a band that was small enough to fit. It look passable.

Can you use it for swimming laps?

Yes! It is water resistant to 100meters. It should be fine for swimming laps, or at least based on the product description. I use mine for running, but have worn it in the shower from time to time, and it was fine.
