Q: I have a Kantech system currently. I plan on switching they system to this system, can i program the new fobs prior to shutting down the old system?

Old fobs and new ones have nothing to do with each other unless I am misunderstanding your question.? Assuming you want to use the old fobs in the new system? Not sure about that. The reader supports the following cards: EM4100/EM4001/TK4100. But yes you can just install the provided software n a network pc and hook up the usb fob reader as well. Create the users and link the unique new fob ID to that user using the provided reader / or type it in. I did my cards after hardware setup, but you can do it at any time. You will have to hook the control panel up the network at some point to write the settings/user fobs to control board, but once that is done, you can disconnect from the network and pretty much set and forget. Mine has been working flawlessly for almost 2 years.
