What if the RC gets damaged?

I just got the exercise machine this afternoon, it came in perfect conditions, works as expected, but after operating the machine for the first time I realize one possible problem in the future: How will I operate the machine if the Remote Control gets damaged or lost? there are not instructions on how operate it without a RC.

No difference in resistance

I bought this elliptical only for the fact that is said you can modify the resistance on it. I got it in today and after trying it out there is no difference in the resistance only the speed. Updated to 4 stars: I was finally able to get the resistance to change but it's almost like it didn't want to work and only wanted to stay on speed.
