From the Publisher Review: Lunacy has no limits. And fandom can be fatal. - This is the story of a psychotic fan Annie Wilkes and her maddom in her horror castle where sheโs held the famous Paul Sheldon, her favorite author, captive, but heโs more like a slave-turned-victim of her depression-induced insanity. Paul has killed Misery, the protagonist of his best-selling novel and Annie didnโt like it at all. The price she is going to make him pay, is one he can has never imagined, and before long, Paul will wish he hadnโt created Misery Chastain at all. The plot is thick with wickedness and cruelty, and there are times you flinch from the atrocities of the ruthless psycho captor, Annie. It is easy to see how someone would go to any extent to get something they truly love; in this case, it is the brining back to life the protagonist of Sheldonโs novel โ Misery Chastain. This book is one big misery that drags the reader into a whirlpool of fear-led pity for Sheldon, and teeth-grinding hatred for Annie. It is astonishing to follow how despite being a nurse, Annie is bereft of compassion and quick at turning her anger into nerve-chilling violence. While Paul is caught in her jaws desperate for an escape, Annie will leave no room for rescue attempts and quite efficiently wipes off every roadblock in her way; including cops. Fooling oneself is much easier than accepting the bitter truth, and Paul does get antsy for crossing that fatal line in Annaโs coup several times causing him to lose his feet; in one instance. That particular event was quite heartbreaking as even though the misery of everyoneโs life in the story starts to ebb, you know the disappointment is here to stay. The other side of the coin is the novel Paul is writing for Annie, his โNUMBER ONE FANโ. Now those parts are actually really good as King has sprinkled some novel-writing tips and facts thatโs a godsend for every living writer. It also consists of many quotes that will motivate writers to keep pursuing the passion. I know I benefitted much from them. And so will any aspiring writer learning the art. This book is unlike anything youโve read from King yet. Obviously the writing is impeccable. The plot is flawless. And even if this isnโt horror upfront, boy, you tell me if Annie Wilkes doesnโt scare you in the dark. She is the kind of character who takes more credit than is due, and dominates your mind like a nightmare youโll want to forget. I realise Iโm all praises for this book, but let me not forget to tell that there were parts that felt irrelevant like some of Paulโs introspective narrations, dragging the reader into his past. I had to skim through those because all I wanted was to be at the heart of the actual story. In the end, it is hard to believe what a person is capable of doing; whether it is about survival or ending it all. And both Annie and Paul are in a tug of war, where no matter which side wins, it is a catastrophe leading to a million miseries. Finally, Misery is a classic King novel with its crazy twists and turns that are loaded with anxieties turned into disappointments, admiration turned into obsession, intelligence turned into savagery, and everything amalgamating perfectly to give you a story that will rock your core. Review: King the king of thrillers... - In Misery the story follows of Paul Sheldon, a bestselling novelist, and his biggest fan, Annie Wilkes. After a terrible car accident leaves Paul badly injured, he wakes up in Annieโs house, where she claims to have โrescuedโ him. But what starts as a seemingly kind act turns into a horrifying nightmare as Paul realizes Annie isnโt just a fan-sheโs dangerously obsessed with him and his work. This was my first Stephen King novel, and I have to say, it was an experience I wonโt forget. What blew my mind was how King managed to create such an intense, gripping story with just two characters and one primary setting-a single room. I didnโt think a story like that could hold my attention for so long, but it did. Every page made me feel like I was in that room with Paul, feeling his pain, fear, and helplessness. The book is dark, disturbing, and honestly gross at times. There were moments I had to put it down just to process what I had read. But thatโs what makes it so brilliant. King doesnโt just tell you a story-he makes you live it. If youโve read Verity by Colleen Hoover and loved the psychological tension in that book, Misery is a must-read. Itโs not a fast-paced thriller, though. Itโs a slow burn that takes its time to build tension, but when it hits, it hits hard. And considering this book was published 37 years ago, itโs amazing how timeless and impactful it still feels. For me, itโs a solid 4.5-star read. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end, even though it left me feeling uneasy (in the best way). Kingโs writing is just incredible-he makes you feel everything the characters are going through.

Cruelty, after all, was understandable. With insanity, however, there was no arguing.
๐๐ ๐งโ๐ฆฝ Misery ๐งโ๐ฆฝ๐ ๐ Cruelty, after all, was understandable. With insanity, however, there was no arguing. Paul Sheldon. He's a bestselling novelist who has finally met his biggest fan. Her name is Annie Wilkes and she is more than a rabid reader - she is Paul's nurse, tending his shattered body after an automobile accident. But she is also his captor, keeping him prisoner in her isolated house. Most people adore their fans and you would too unless you had one like Annie Wilkes - a psychopath fan who will cross all the limits so that you remain a puppet to her wishes. Since I had already watched the movie adaptation of this book a long time ago, I was a but hesitant to read this book, why? Because I thought I already know the ending and the whole story. But boy I was wrong!! This book is beyond a typical Stephen King novel, the movie was nothing in comparison to the book, I am saying nothing, not even 10 percent of the book. Misery is a novel which will go beyond everything you have read till date, what goes inside the mind of a writer, what difficulties he/she faces just because of creating a character everyone loves in the society and the fact that writers can't even decide how to provide that particular character a closure by providing an appropriate end to it because it will break the hearts of the fans was alongwith many other things thought provoking. The character development is insane, a writer who is trying to run away from his creation, is an alcoholic and smoker turns into a much more deep and complex character by the end. He accepted things that were happening to him and couldn't be altered unless he took matter in his own hands, although he took a lot of time in that. Annie Wilkes was a character who thought herself to be unbeatable, she did things to Paul which will give you terror and maybe few nightmares too, she was considered to be a goddess by Paul, he knew her story was one in which Paul had to handle its closure so he built his character day by day and worked on himself by pretending to be a good captive. He built his strength, strategized and failed again and again, lost a part of himself, felt crippled but never gave up. If you are in for a ride and want to learn more about how the life of a writer goes, you have to read this one. Misery is probably one of my best reads of this year.

There are better books by Stephen king
There are much better gory stories by the master storyteller than this book. Misery is the story about a famous author being kept in captivity by a lady fan who is a paramedic by profession. She had been into killings during her professional life in various hospitals except that she was too good to be caught. The plot is well developed, characters well defined although part of the characters are kept nondescript. The violence unleashed by the lady and killings of cops and many other patients seems to be bit filmy and hard to believe. However we all know that any book of Stephen kings is a treat to read
