It is likely a lga 1156.

Does it come with the thermal paste strips preapplied?

Yes I believe so. Anyways you should still buy some thermal paste because the thermal pads are always no good.

Will this heatsink be compatible with 1155 socket for an i5?

Yes. We have been cooling a Core i5 with this for about three months now, without issue. The computer is used 8 to 10 hours a day, 5 days a week, in an office.
