ADVANCED ELEMENTS Spray Skirt

It works, and the shoulder straps make this the better option from Advanced Elements. The material was extremely stiff to start, and I was worried that the drawstring was going to snap when I tried to tighten it. Eventually I made it work. It could be higher quality for the price.

Spray skirts are like umbrellas - if you have it you don't need it and if you forgot it then you're in trouble. I take this spray skirt with me on every kayak trip (even perfect days) as a preventative measure. I've had to use it around 10 times and it's performed really well every time. Completely waterproof and I like the handy mesh pouch in front. I removed the shoulder straps because I found that, with a life vest, I didn't need it. Take your time to adjust the band around the base of the skirt to make sure it has the right tension (not too much or too little). And definitely practice installing the skirt while sitting in shallow water. The first few times I used this skirt I found that I wasn't reaching back and securing it well enough behind my back. Result: a little water sloshed in before I realized the problem and fixed it. Lastly, if you do any cooler-weather paddling this skirt is a great way to stay warm and extend your outdoor season. It's November in NH and I'm still going strong!

Used the skirt over the weekend to keep out 40 degree water and it kept every drop of water out.I stayed completely dry.

The spray skirt secures to the kayak with an elastic cord. However, if you move around too much it comes loose and the elastic causes it to ride up on your body, so water can get inside the kayak.

Perfect fit.

I bought this hoping it would fit my pelican and I guessed right.. it was a bit tight at first but got around it rather easily.

No matter how tight I tie the elasticated cord, the spray skirt comes off the coaming on the boat. Though I guess I would mostly blame it on the kayak design (Fusion Elite)

I bought the spray skirt for my Advanced Elements inflatable kayak: the Dragonfly. I use it in the winter months when getting wet is just too cold for comfort. It kept me kayaking no matter what the weather. It fit around the inflated tubing edges and stayed put. It is heavy and durable. I'm looking forward to using it next winter. True, I live in NW Florida and I'm not talking about temperatures below freezing.

The material is really thick, rigid, and uncomfortable to surround yourself with. I've had other brands that were far thinner and thus more comfortable. I imagine this is quite durable though.The great thickness also means it is not really a "snug" fit around the kayak as advertised. Since the advanced elements kayaks are inflatable you can't pull the cord tight enough to compress this bulky material and achieve the "snug" fit or it will just pop off. A lighter weight material and cord would surely have worked better.It also seems unnecessarily tall, coming far up my chest, nearly to my neck. (And you would usually want to pull it tight and up high so pools of water don't collect on it).Maybe the thickness gives good water resistance, but you are never going to get a perfect seal with such an inflatable kayak, so seems a bit excessive.It does the job I guess, but the general feel is of sitting inside a large, stiff, paper bag.If I hadn't used it I'd probably return it, especially considering the price.

Very well designed. The pocket is handy to put waterproof things in. The shoulder straps and cinches are great for keeping the skirt in place and water tight. I used this in meter high swells in my kayak in a rain storm (quite an adventure) and it held up great. It kept my pants dry through that ordeal and I even kept a camera (in a plastic bag for insurance) under the skirt once I felt confident in what it could do. I would definitely recommend this product to any kayaker.

Have used in on several kayak trips under a variety of wind, weather and water conditions. Always keeps the water out of the cockpit and keeps us dry. Highly recommend it.

Used this on a pretty intense kayaking trip. Relied on it to keep my tent, food and clothes dry. Had to readjust it a couple times but almost no water at all got in!
