LUMIX TZ/ZS99 Point and Shoot Camera, Compact Camera for Travel with 30x Zoom with 24-720mm Zoom Lens, and 4K Video/Photo, Great for Travel and Concerts, DC-TZ99 (Silver)

Just received and my review is very surface level as I’m a person who photographs on auto. I had a Sony SX 740 that went overboard when I did in a kayak. The replacement cost for that model was triple so I sought a different option. This takes better photos, nicer quality, less zoom strength but easier to function ( not one to read directions) and less expensive. So far, great! Very nice macros, my favourite way to shoot subjects.

The camera itself is excellent. Build quality is great: clicky, snappy controls and a surprising amount of customization. Full PASM features are well represented and the camera has an unbelievably deep menu for a point-and-shoot. The BEST features are the stepped zoom and the ability to turn on "Lens Position Resume" which allows you to hop back to the last focal distance used when turning the camera back on. I cannot overstate how useful that is on a power zoom lens. Should be noted that the Leica D-Lux 8 (a zoom camera that's almost $2k as of this review) is missing this feature!In general the UI and utility of the TZ are awesome. Battery life is better than expected. Back screen is surprisingly good and articulates in one direction. Image quality is decent. If you're ok with noise/grain, or can at least work with it (raws are still somewhat malleable up to ISO 1600) there's 20 megapixels' worth of resolution. More than most folks need. The only unfortunate quality of the lens/sensor is the amount of color aberration at the corners. But this is in-keeping with the 2010's digicam aesthetic, so it might work for you. For what it's worth, the Tough TG-7 also exhibits this kind of color fringing.Note:The only reason I took a point off is that, even though I ordered from the US, the copy of the camera that I received is very much a TZ version. This means it was meant for the European/Asian market. Someone (most likely the reseller, which, oddly, was also from the US) had preset the camera to English and replaced the OEM manual with a laser-copied, stapled version (also in English). As far as I can tell, the camera is in good working order, the rest of the box contents are correct, and the only difference between the TZ and ZS versions is the firmware you'll have to download from Lumix. However, this kind of tinkering with the contents of the box is a little suspicious and doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

This camera can be used by beginner and experienced pro photographers alike. I like the size … it easily fits in my pocket and is great for traveling. This camera has numerous functions but you can set it to “auto” mode and it will take very nice photos. You can also scroll through the various menu options if you prefer manual settings. It features a Leica 30-1 zoom lens. I plan to use it for an Alaskan Cruise and hope to capture some photos of whales. There will be very little need for photo editing as the quality of the camera renders great color accuracy. The battery is rechargeable. I’m looking forward to using this camera for a very long time.

Camera came setup in another language (asian) and I was unable to reset it to English. There were no instructions included so I had to go to youtube to get instructions on how to change the language . Which was very annoying , I been using the camera for over week now and after changing to English I was able to make changes to get clearer pictures. Other than that the camera works well.

I shoot most of my pictures these days with my cellphone. But sometimes wildlife just doesn't want to come closer. This camera is portable and has an incredible zoom. Love it!If you want to get fancy there is shutter or aperture priority. Also several scene modes. I've had success just leaving it in iA mode (intelligent automation).

cam with no instructions... and hard to operate without.. cannot get a book from the manufacturer either. Was disappointed

Eigentlich suchte ich nur nach einer einfachen, günstigen "Knipse" für Gelegenheitsfotos. Aber halt mit richtigen Bedienknöpfen anstelle der fummeligen Touch-Bedienung des Smartphones mit seinen winzigen Symbolen.Zunächst hatte ich eine von diesen billig zu habenden China-Kameras angeschaut - wohl aber schon ahnend, dass die nichts taugt. Genauso war es dann auch. Nominell mit 75 MPx und 6K Ultra HD. Dass ich nicht lache. Zwar waren die Bilddateien die sie erzeugte riesengroß - qualitativ waren die Fotos aber kaum besser als diejenigen, die einst mein altes Tasten-Handy produziert hat.So habe ich mich dann doch bei den renommierten Herstellern nach deren aktuellen Kompaktkamera-Modellen umgesehen. Letztlich fiel meine Wahl auf die LUMIX DC-TZ99. Der riesige Telebereich und die Testbewertungen, die der Kamera durchwegs eine hervorragende Bildqualität bei gutem Licht bescheinigten, gaben den Ausschlag. Umfangreiche Video-Funktionen benötige ich nicht. Weder möchte ich VLogs erstellen noch mich als Selbstdarsteller bei YouTube produzieren.Der Verkaufspreis der DC-TZ99 von aktuell (24.05.2026) 569,00€ liegt zwar schon am unteren Ende der Skala, die andere Markenhersteller für ihre vergleichbaren Modelle aufrufen. Ich empfinde den Preis dennoch als ziemlich happig.😐 Doch was will man machen? Kompaktkameras sind heute halt weitgehend von den Smartphones verdrängt und besetzen nur noch Nischen. Immerhin gut, dass es überhaupt wieder aktuelle Entwicklungen gibt. So gesehen, erscheint mir die Qualität der DC-TZ99 die Ausgabe dann doch wert.Ich habe die Kamera jetzt erst einen Tag in Gebrauch. Dies ist also nur ein Ersteindruck. Der ist aber ganz hervorragend. Wenn man so will, habe ich tatsächlich die "Knipse" gefunden, die ich suchte. Und das meine ich keineswegs abwertend. Ich will damit nur sagen, dass die Kamera "Out of the box" in allen Brennweitenbereichen, bei Tageslicht oder künstlicher Beleuchtung im Automatik-Modus stets gestochen scharfe und farbenfrohe Fotos gemacht hat. Ohne dass ich mich bislang überhaupt mit den "hunderttausend" 😉 Einstellmöglichkeiten auseinander gesetzt hätte.Erstaunlich, was die Kamera aus ihrem kleinen Bildsensor (1/2.3") mit 21 MPx und dem jetzt auch nicht sonderlich lichtstarkem Leica-Objektiv (f/3.3 bis f/6.4) trotzdem herausholen kann.Zum Vergleich habe ich hier noch meine alte, "große" Fujifilm X-S1 von 2013. Trotz ihrem größeren Sensor (2/3", 12 MPx) und lichtstärkerem Objektiv (f/2.8 bis f/5.6) kann deren Fotoqualität nicht an die der kleinen Lumix TZ99 heranreichen. Mal abgesehen davon, dass man mit der X-S1 einen "Brocken" mit knapp 1 kg Gewicht mit sich herum tragen muss.Dass man mit der DC-TZ99 durchaus eine semi-professionelle Kamera im Kleinstformat in Händen hält, merkt man spätestens bei Durchsicht der beiliegenden deutschsprachigen gedruckten "Schnellanleitung" mit ihren ca 60 Seiten. Das vollständige Benutzerhandbuch (kann man als PDF herunterladen) umfasst ganze 283 Seiten! Allein die deutschsprachige Fassung. Da bleibt zukünftig noch viel Raum zum experimentieren...Die professionelle Anmutung der Lumix TZ99 wird durch die hochwertige Verarbeitung des Gehäuses unterstrichen. Es fühlt sich einfach gut an, die kleine Kamera in Händen zu halten. Dabei trägt auch ihr Gewicht von ca. 322 g zu dem qualitativ guten Eindruck bei. Die Kamera ist definitiv kein "Plastikbomber". Die Bedienelemente sitzen genau am richtigen Platz und lassen sich auch mit rel. großen Händen gut erreichen. Einzig der Blitz ist etwas ungünstig positioniert. Ist mir schon passiert, dass ich den versehentlich mit einem Finger abgedeckt habe.Die Bedienung erfolgt normalerweise über die Knöpfe und Einstellräder der Kamera, viele Einstellungen können aber auch über das sehr gute Touch-Display, teils unterstützt durch die physischen Drucktasten, vorgenommen werden. Wer das halt so vom Smartphone gewöhnt ist. Das alles geht eig. wie von selbst von der Hand.Kritisieren mag man, dass der elektronische Sucher den die Vorgängermodelle noch hatten wegrationalisiert wurde. Mich persönlich stört's nicht. Dafür ist das Display wirklich gut, hochauflösend und hell. Auch einen Blitzschuh (Zubehörschuh) sucht man vergeblich. Wer also ext. Blitzgeräte, Lampen, Mikrofone usw. anbauen möchte, schaut in die Röhre. Immerhin verfügt die Lumix TZ99 über ein eingebautes Mikro. Dieses klingt zwar etwas blechern, aber immer noch besser, als gar nicht vorhanden. Als VLog-Kamera ist diese ja auch gar nicht positioniert.Am mitgelieferten Zubehör habe ich nichts auszusetzen - außer dem beiliegenden Akku gibt es ja keines. 😜Einzig was mich derzeit noch verzweifeln lässt, ist die Kopplung der Kamera mit dem Smartphone über Bluetooth und WLAN. Dabei möchte ich eigentlich nur automatisch die Geo-Daten übertragen und Fotos von der Kamera auf das Phone (und von dort dann weiter auf den PC) übertragen. Aber das habe ich bislang noch nicht hinbekommen. Entweder wirft einem die Software der Kamera oder die App auf dem Phone ständig Knüppel zwischen die Beine. Mal meldet diese, dann jene, neu verbunden werden zu wollen. 😠 Also, das ist alles andere als zufriedenstellend und solch eine Software einem renommiertem Anbieter hochpreisiger Kameras ziemlich unwürdig. Oder ich habe irgendwas noch überhaupt nicht richtig verstanden? Aber ganz doof bin ich ja eigentlich auch nicht...Naja, aber diese Problematik mit der Software soll meiner Bewertung der Kamera keinen Abbruch tun. Die Panasonic LUMIX DC-TZ99 stellt bislang in allen Belangen die Kamera dar, nach der ich gesucht habe. Klein, handlich, hochwertig verarbeitet, macht tolle Fotos, schneller Autofokus, großartiger Zoom und Bildstabilisator. Okay, jetzt nicht so günstig, wie ich anfangs noch gehofft hatte. Aber ihren Preis allemal wert, finde ich. 👍☺️5 Sterne für die Kamera, 0 für die App.

The stabilisation helps keep shots steady, especially when using the zoom.If I had to mention a downside, low-light performance isn’t its strongest area, and images can get a bit noisy in darker conditions. Also, the lack of a viewfinder might be a drawback for some users, especially in bright sunlight.Overall, this is a fantastic travel camera if you want something small, simple, and powerful in terms of zoom. It’s not trying to replace a professional camera, but for holidays and everyday photography, it does a really great job.

Over the years I’ve owned several Panasonic Lumix cameras in this format and have used them so frequently that I’ve worn them out. The latest version has remover the viewfinder as part of the design I would have liked it if they had kept this feature. So, 4 stars instead of 5.
