This deck marks the coming of age of Tarot in Italy. The classic design of the Marseilles decks, reinvented by an anonymous artist, exemplifies 19th-century Italian art: detailed, symbolic, and richly colored in vibrant greens, muted reds, and vivid golds. The whole, decadently costumed array of Tarot archetypes are presented here, along with delicately ornamented Marseilles style pips. The companion booklets for most Lo Scarabeo decks are in five languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German. Review: Good Deck, True to Tradition - Nice cards, shuffle easily, beautifully done artwork true to the Marseille Tarot tradition. Good deck! Nothing to fault. Much to praise. Review: Gorgeous colors, this deck gives plenty of scope for intuition - I just received this deck today and I love it! I love the old-world style of drawing and the gorgeous, muted colors. I love the expressive faces and postures of the various figures. Some cards are so downright gorgeous and mystical that I could meditate on them for hours (examples: Le Stelle- the Star, and La Luna- The Moon). I like the card stock. Yes, it's a bit thin and glossy like regular playing cards, but it makes it easy to shuffle. They fit well in my hand. The design on the back of the cards features beautiful multicolored leaves and scrolls, and is reversible if you use reversed cards (I don't). The cards are almost borderless; there is just a thin line drawn around the perimeter of each card. I prefer borderless cards as it's easy to see the connections between cards without a distracting border. One of my first decks was a Marseille deck which, like this deck, did not have separate pictures for the pip cards, just the requisite number of images of that suit (e.g. 6 cups, 4 swords, etc). That bothered me as I was new to Tarot and didn't have the meanings memorized, so I put it aside. But now I'm finding I love that this deck's pip cards are not illustrated. It enables me to use my intuition without being bound to the images. Just be aware that this is how they are done. Sometimes clients don't like this as they can't relate visually to just an abstract group of symbols. For the most part, there is very little scenery on these cards, primarily the central figure and a few extra touches. There is lots of room for intuition to come into play. One thing I don't like about this deck is that the High Priestess here is "La Papessa"-- The Papess, or female Pope, wearing a beehive papal mitre. It is too similar to The "Il Papa" card (the Pope or Hierophant). I consider the High Priestess to have a very different energy from the Hierophant and wish that was depicted better here. But I know there is an old tradition behind the Papess card and I can adjust. A couple of other points: mine came in a slightly different box from the one pictured. Mine is green, with the Chariot on the front and the Empress on the back. The Little White Book gives card interpretations which are often quite different from the traditional RWS interpretations, especially for the pip cards. And finally, at the beginning of the LWB, there is a picture of a spread using 7 cards, called the "Veil" spread. However, the description for how to interpret this spread only mentions three cards! Too bad because the premise of the spread-- what is keeping the querent from seeing the truth about a situation-- interested me. I will try it with 3 cards, but I'm intrigued as to why 7 cards are pictured and wonder what THAT spread is supposed to be. Really beautiful deck. Can't stop picking this deck up and looking at it. I know it's going to be my new go-to deck!

Good deck, good price
Like most Lo Scarobeo decks, the card stock is bendy and flexible. The size is this deck is interesting, the cards are tall and thin. Overall, easy to shuffle. The artwork is as pictured and lovely, if you enjoy the very traditional. I would recommend this for well rounded practitioners or eager-to-learn beginners.

Magnificent
This is a beautiful deck. The colors are lovely, the card backs are beautiful, the size is excellent, the art work is amazing. I'm so glad I bought this deck. The most beautiful Italian Marseille style tarot deck I've found. Don't hesitate to buy it. The price is great for such an awesome deck. You can't beat it.

Beautiful Soprafino Marseille
This is my first historic Marseille deck and it did not disappoint. By far the best reproduction of the Soprafino. The line work is clean and crisp and the color palette is pleasing. Card stock is sturdy but flexible. It keeps its shape even if you’re a riffle shuffler. It does have a printers smell to it but I’m not sensitive to odors so it didn’t bother me. I wish it came in a better box other than a tuck box because something this pretty deserves it. I have kept the cellophane wrap on my box and opened it from the top carefully with an artists blade. This should keep the box protected from wear and tear a bit longer than without. I do this with most of my LoScarabeo decks. Overall I’m glad I found this deck before it potentially goes out of print. Loved it so much I bought a second copy.

No Chemical Residue!
Ordered this deck before reading the reviews, then read about issues with a chemical residue or smell... thankfully, seems that the issue might have been dealt with... No residue or smell! ... These cards are much more than I had expected... they, of course, are modern but masterfully pull off the "ancient" look and feel. The artwork is beautiful and standard cards are simple yet classic. They are a great size for shuffling and the cardstock is high quality.. The Pictures I included show every card. Check them out for yourself, they really are worth it. --- lastly, I've been putting it off for a while now but just asked about my love-life... last pic is of the 5 cards I pulled... can anyone decipher them for me? I'm still rather new at this... wanna take a stab at it? 🙂

I like the deck...but some cards can't be reversed
What I like about this deck: --It has an "old timey" (mid-1800s) Victorian style and the pips remind me of the playing cards they use in Spain. Not exactly "ancient" in any way, but if you want something that feels vintage, this is a good deck. The images of the Major Arcana are based on Renaissance Italian decks, but are more colorful. --They are a little longer and narrower than my other tarot decks--in fact, they are as long as my small hands can easily handle--but I like the shape. --Another reviewer commented that the back of the cards doesn't fit with the front (while the fronts have a slightly off-white, old paper tone, the backs were green and a very new-looking bright white). This has been fixed. The backs are dark green, sage green, and gold, and fit well with the fronts. --This is my first deck that isn't a Rider-Waite clone, and I specifically sought out a deck that didn't have scenes for the minor arcana. This deck has just the number and the suit, and I like that. For beginners, it might be easier to start with a RW clone. --They have a smooth finish and seem thick enough without being too stiff. What I don't like: --The Little White Book was pretty much useless (as expected). I recycled it. I didn't buy the deck for the LWB, so that's ok. --NO GOOD IF YOU READ REVERSALS. Many of the pips are identical regardless of which end is up, so they can't be reversed. --The cards came out of the box with a *very* strong nasty chemical/plastic odor, and it appears that I am allergic to something used in their manufacture. Every time I use the deck, my nose runs and swells up and I get a headache. I spread the cards out on a table and put a bag of bamboo charcoal in the middle and that seems to have absorbed a bit of the odor, but I've had these cards probably a month and they are still off-gassing like crazy. I can't do more than 2 spreads at a sitting before I have to stop. If it doesn't clear up soon they will have to stay outside until they finish off-gassing. If you have any chemical sensitivity, steer clear of these! (In fact, I would be wary of anything made by Lo Scarabeo, as I have read other complaints online about the smell and having to let the cards air out before using them. This deck came wrapped in cellophane inside the box, and there was no detectable odor until the cellophane was removed, so I think the smell comes from the inks or the coating of the cardstock.) If not for this, I would have given this deck 5 stars, but this seems like a consistent problem with Lo Scarabeo decks, and it makes me wonder what they heck they put on their cards. However many people say it doesn't bother them. UPDATE: The smell did finally go away, and now I enjoy using this deck. I have read that the smell comes from linseed oil used in the printing process but I have no idea if that's accurate. Some people say they actually like the Lo Scarabeo "new deck smell," so your mileage may vary. But if you are very sensitive to smells, be prepared.

Apaixonante

Beautiful old-school cards
Not for beginners. The Majors are all spelled out in Italian and the pip cards are just that, no information to help a reading. However, the lovely etched-style artwork (rather than woodblock-printed style like the Marseille decks) was just what I wanted. If you’re new to Tarot I’d recommend getting the Centennial Smith-Waite deck first, as it’s the very best way to learn. Then when you feel conversant with the cards, come back and look at this again. I really wish Lo Scarabeo would make a mini/tinned version of this. It would be my perfect deck.
