This Carpal device has a lot of features that others do not. I own several of these OBD devices and this one works well. It has several features that are handy. It can scan all systems for codes. It allows the user to select a vehicle which is nice because then it can provide the correct code descriptions. It has a built in battery test that monitors battery voltage through the DLC. This is a neat quick little test, however it is not a replacement for a professional battery starting charging test. The tool also has some performance meters to track vehicle acceleration and 0-60 times etc. Setup was quick and easy. Download the program, connect the tool through Bluetooth and then finish account setup and it is ready to go. This is not a replacement for a professional level scan tool but it is a handy little device that will pull all codes from all systems, clear all codes, scan engine data and provide OBD emission test results. Easy to setup, easy to navigate and nice clean data screens make it a good tool. It’s a lot of tool for a little money.

If you like to know what is going on with your car then I'd recommend the TOPDON CarPal! The device plugs into your car's DLC (data link connector) port and then connects via BlueTooth to your Apple or Android device via Bluetooth. You will also need to download CarPal software from the app store (no extra charge). When plugged into my 2018 BMW, the app was able to read the VIN code of the car and I could then perform a full scan of the electronic modules to find DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) data. You can read about any errors found and there's a technical library which gives suggested fixes. DTCs can also be reset, but obviously they will return if the fault is not repaired! There's also a host of other information such as searchable Technical Service Bulletins and a section that allows the reset of service items such as battery and oil etc. I was impressed with the volume of information provided, both from the car and from the app itself and for the price, I'd say it represents great value. If you are considering purchase, perhaps download the CarPal app first and take a look! When you connect to your car, it does mention you can have 3 brands (cars) set up in the app. I'm not sure if these could be deleted if you changed vehicle. The is also something called FCA SGW - a secure gateway (firewall) used on Fiat Chrysler group vehicles which restricts 2017-onwards models from connecting to 3rd party OBD2 scanners. Just be aware of this if you own one of these vehicles.

I think this is a great little scan tool. Yes it requires a subscription after the first year but it let's me check everything, all car systems. I've used it on 3 different cars, checking transmission, abs, ecm/pcm.

An ODB reader is a great little gadget to have at home. If your car throws up any warning lights or error codes you can scan the car yourself and work out what the issue may be. This job itself most dealers charge you a good amount of money to do even before any works required are done. Having the ability to read these yourself and maybe even fix some simple faults without the need to visit a garage can save you a big bill. The device slots into the car OBD port without issue and connects automatically. The reader is compatible with various iOS and Android apps so simply pick the most suitable one/one you prefer the most and away you go, the app now being able to scan and download data from your car to your smartphone and allowing you to self diagnose any issues or warning lights. At £49.99 (at the time of writing) this is a bit higher priced that some others but a garage would likely charge you double this or more just to plug your car into their diagnostic computer. Highly recommend piece of home car maintenance equipment.
