Rode Smart Lavalier Plus Dynamic Microphone

First things first - the mic has really good sound quality and is absolute value for money. I wanted to use it for moto vlogging and the wire was thin enough for me to roll it all up and hide it inside the helmet. Mic uses power from the device you are connecting it to so keep enough battery backup if you are looking for longer recordings. GoPro has a c-type port and will require an adapter to affix a mic. There is one available from GoPro itself. This mic has trrs connection jack. While some devices use trrs, some use trs. Incase you have a device, like GoPro, that uses a trs connection then you will need another adapter that converts trrs to trs jack. I spent a lot of time and learnt it the hard way struggling to find out why was there no sound going into my video. Check with your connecting device for the type of socket it has and order accordingly. My recommendation is either the company should include trrs to trs adapter in the packaging, or mention it on the page about this requirement.

QUALITY: This product is good in quality as it is from well known brand RODE and you also feels it when it in your hands. Comes with small pouch. SHIPPING CONDITION: I got package in good condition. No damage nothing like that. PRICE: This mic worth it's price. MY EXPERIENCE: It can make big difference in your videos. Voice quality is crystal clear like. Easy to use. More than sufficient cable length for vlogging kind of shoots. Material quality is very good. It is bit expensive but worth it's price because of very good voice quality and good material used. First and foremost the mic accomplishes every thing when its about the authenticity of a very good Smartphone microphone. However One need be very aware about its Compatibility with their smartphone prior purchasing it. I got to be a witness here... At the initial i thought that it would easily support my mobile (im using redmi 3s prime) and hence i clicked in the purchase button however right after plugging the mics jack to my mobile phone... And after listening to the audio quality of the said mic....i felt a pain and adversity of actually going for this microphone. Be sure that im in no way blaming the quality of the mic as previously mentioned however the compatibility of the same. It also doesn't mean that i failed to record my voice over the mic.... Infact my voice over the mic sound very different in comparison with my smartphones inbuilts mic But still.... Using this very mic with an ios device and then with an Android device... One will instantly find major difference in it. So yeah,Don't criticize the mic but your android device if after purchasing it your in any form criticizing it.

Amazing. The only caveat is to keep the mic as close to the speaker's mouth as possible. I've used it for my wedding videos in interviews and has done a perfect job. I've used it by connecting it directly to my Nikon D750 as well as to the Zoom H1 recorder and it works perfectly with both. However to use it with my DSLR i had to buy the Rode SC3 TRSS to TRS Adapter as well. You cannot directly plug this mic and use it with DSLRs. The mic wire seems fragile and thus i use it with extreme care. You cannot be lousy or rough with this one. The foam cover on mic does a decent job of wind noise cancellation but is useless in a windy spot. The clip given is sturdy and smartly designed. Make use of it to secure any sudden pull of wire and you might save the mic!

I am writting my honest review after thoroughly testing and camparing it with a generic cheap lavalier microphone purchased from Amazon India. After tests I have returned this product back to Amazon India. Don't know whether Amazon India will display this review or not. I much assured that Rode Smartlav+ sells due to its brandname only. Quality is not that good. Picks a lot ambience noise. It sounds same as cheap lavalier microphone available for Rs.250/- I personnally thoroughly tested it with my OnePlus 5 Android Smartphone and Zoom H1 Audio Recorder. Not tested with any iOS device as it is not available with me. It may perform well on iOS device. Don't buy this product by watching paid reviews on youtube. Watch geekyranjeet's 'worst gadget video'. He only admits it as lowest quality product. Please note, to claim warranty you will have to register product serial no.on RODE website. Also note Amazon India or Cambium SLP or Cloudtail Retailers are not listed as online seller on Rode website. You need to purchase this product from Authorised dealer only to claim warranty. Registration of product on Rode website for warranty is compulsory, else you will not get any warranty. Beware about warranty issue as it is a delicate product. It works as advertised. At first I thought it was defective and had arranged for a return. But then after doing some research found out that I had to set my Zoom Hn4 so that it would give power to the mic after that it worked perfectly. It would have been a good idea for them to tell users to do that. Otherwise some might think the mic is dead like i did.

Excellent product. Now with rode sc3 trrs to trs adapter i can record directly in zoom h1. However the quality of the mic is good from low end to high mid but it slightly reduced in high. Hence when i put it under fabrics then i bound to increase a lot of high to get back the real sound.

At the outset, let me say that the audio quality is quite good for a mic of this size. The problem is interfacing. Rode seems to have made it to be used only with iPhones. I tried it on my Google/Huawei Nexus 6P, and it did not work. It did not work even after I tried using the SC3 TRS converter in between, then the SC6 splitter, and then both. Then I tried on my iPad after installing the official Rode Rec app, and it worked perfectly on the first try, without any paraphernalia in between. I tried on my old Moto G, it did not work directly, but worked with the SC6 adapter in between (works only if plugged in the first port of the adapter, not in the middle port). So it is partially usable for me, but I will have to specially lug around an additional phone (and adapter) to record with it instead of being able to use it with my primary phone. I suppose being a product designed for western markets, compatibility with iOS is all they tested for, and Android devices (which are more popular in developing countries like India) don't matter as much. I also sent a mail to a Rode official support ID that I found on their website, never received a reply. In summary, the recording quality is good, but you buy it at your own risk if you don't have an iDevice.
