Jabra Talk 5 Bluetooth Headset for Hands-Free Calls with Intuitive Design and Simple Use

I am on the phone for work all day and have 3 Plantronics Voyager 3200's. They've been pretty decent, but recently they started flaking out by reducing the sound level on the mic to where I had to reboot them so others could hear me. Plantronics told me this is normal and the noise canceling mics wear out. So... here we are with a Jabra now because that is a bunch of crap. I bought a Talk 55 and this one (the 45). The 55 sucks. Don't buy it. Whoever thought it was a good idea to make a headset that has to charge in a proprietary dock is an idiot and should be immediately fired. With the 55, you can only charge in the stupid dock, and if you forget it at home or whatever, then you cannot charge. It has better talk time than the Talk 45, and supposedly better sound quality, but that was a deal killer for me. I returned it immediately. The Talk 45 charges with a micro USB which I have everywhere. Pretty sure I could find one in the woods if I looked hard enough. Plantronics vs Talk 45. The Talk 45 has way better sound quality. I had the HD Audio turned on with the Plantronics, and the Talk 45 is still better. Battery life on the Plantronics is officially 5 hours, but I never got that. The Talk 45 seems to be accurate at their claimed 6 hours. There are no volume controls on the Talk 45, but I never used them on my Plantronics so those aren't missed. The manual doesn't really talk at all about the voice control. But, it seems that a single tap on the bottom button summons google assistant on my phone, and if you hold the button it summons the built-in voice menu. You don't need the hook that goes over your ear. I ripped it off and it stays in just fine. They have some extra silicone thingies which will hold it more securely without the ear hook. Their apps... what a mess. For this headset, you need to install Jabra Service, and then Jabra Assist. And if you have certain other models, you need to install Jabra Sound+. Stupid. Jabra Assist doesn't let you really change any settings on the headset at all like the Plantronics PLT Hub software does. The Plantronics one also lets you update software, and Assist does not. I only installed Assist for the Find my Headset feature which has a map and can play a loud tone. The tone isn't nearly as loud as the Plantronics one which I can hear from 2 levels away in my house. And the Jabra Direct software for my Mac... turn off the notifications. It is relentless in notifying you MANY times a day if software needs updating. It might be the most annoying software I've ever installed. In fact, the calls I get from people trying to reach me for my expired auto warranty are LESS annoying. But, I still give this thing a 5. I haven't taken a drive with the windows down yet to test the noise canceling. But, people I regularly talk to said that the sound quality is definitely better than my old Plantronics headsets. I'm probably going to buy another so I can always have one on the charger and one in my ear. It's too bad they crippled the Talk 55 with that idiotic dock charger thing.

I had been using Plantronic bluetooth Headset for a few years for they make a very good product as well. The last item I used but them was the Plantronics voyager with portable charging dock. It was a very good unit that fit in the ear canal. I misplaced it and had to get another due to the fact I am in sales and travel a good bit. I have been using these devices for a while so both hands are on the wheel and less distracting. With me it is to the point of talking on my Iphone at my ear doesnt feel correct any longer. When I misplaced the Voyager unit, I saw the Jabra items with very good ratings so the first one I purchased was the Stealth, then the Stealth + and now use the Talk 45 with HD. The volume of these units are controlled by your bluetooth volume on your phone. I have to say the clarity on both ends is very good and I hate to say a lot better than the Plantronics Voyager. There is really no comparison and I have tried many models. I guess I am the person that sees a new product and have to try it. I can not say enough about the Talk 45 or the Stealth items. You barely know it is there. It comes with ear hooks and a variety of sizes of rubber ear canal styles which I have found the best to use. You have to play around with the sizes until you find the correct size for your ear. Then you do not have to worry about it falling out of your ear. If you are serious about getting a handsfree item for safety while driving or just convenience, this is the one for you. In regards to battery life, I have never lost complete power from it battery. They also have a program for your mobile phone that adjusts just about everything and a customer service department that takes backseat to no company. I would say purchase one and you too will be very pleased with the performance and comfort and bang for the buck. Thanks, HC

I’ve been waiting for years for someone to come out with a true competitor to the Poly Voyager 5200. I’ve gone through at least 3 5200s over the years and got sick of them breaking and also having connection issues with the iPhone. VOICE QUALITY: Excellent. I’ve been told my voice sounds perfect and the noise cancellation to the caller works well. SOUND QUALITY: Very Good. This headset doesn’t provide ANC so if there is background noise, you may have trouble hearing your caller (even though they will hear you fine). This isn’t really a flaw as these types of headsets just sit outside your ear canal, but if you are expecting the superior ANC from other Jabra headsets, you won’t find that here. SETTINGS AND FIRMWARE UPDATING: These are not the features you are looking for, move on. Seriously, this is a minimalist headset. No settings, no configuration, no firmware updating. I’m a bit concerned about this, especially since I’ve had a few calls where I had to call someone back because there was some slight distortion on the call (it sounded like Bluetooth interference). (-1 Star). If I continue to have those types of issues, seeing that there is no way to fix them via firmware, I will have no choice but to return the product or make a warranty claim. UC / PAIRING with a laptop: I also tried pairing this headset with my laptop as well and even though it isn’t officially supported, the audio and microphone worked fine with Teams and Zoom. PROXIMITY SENSOR/AUTO ANSWER: None. Again, this is a highly functional minimalist headset. Unlike the Voyager, this headset will not recognize if you are wearing the headset or not and therefore has no auto switching capability. There is also no auto/voice answer option. PROTECTIVE CHARGING CASE: Nope. You are on your own. Based on the advertised battery life, you don’t need a charging case, but I’m a little worried about what is going to happen to this headset in my pocket. Seeing how I destroyed a few Voyagers (and those had cases), I can only imagine what might happen to this Jabra Talk 65. OVERALL: For the price, this is a great deal and since the Voyager 5200 hasn’t been updated in years, it’s nice to have an alternative. The sound quality is excellent and for professional settings, this will probably be my main headset for awhile. I can learn to live without the proximity sensor (which always seemed to fail anyway), but I’m a little nervous about not being able to update the firmware, should there be issues in the near future.

I moved to this headset after Plantronics ruined the Voyager 5200 (making me sound like I was constantly underwater, a known issue). It was great at first: - Battery life is fantastic, seemingly much longer than the Voyager - Range is exceptional, I've mistakenly left my phone in one room and walked ~30 feet away before realizing that I didn't have my phone on me - Audio quality is great and folks hear me really well, great background noise cancellation But there are quirks and annoyances that have made it insufferable: - Firstly, it's the one Jabra headset that is not supported by their app, so none of the settings can be changed - If you have it connected to more than one device (e.g., iPad and iPhone), it CONSTANTLY says "headset connected" while you're on a call - the only workaround that I have found is to turn bluetooth off on all of the other devices that I normally use it - It has started to mute itself while I'm in the middle of the call and the only way to unmute is by turning it off and back on - It also doesn't say what my remaining talk time / battery life is, the way the Voyager did, so you have no idea if you're good to go for the day or if it's going to cut out in the middle of a call - Lastly, the volume is exceptionally low, to the point that it can be difficult to hear people if you're not in a quiet room (and if I was always in a quiet room, I wouldn't need this headset) Annoyingly, these issues came up a few months after I purchased, so I'm outside of the return window. I cannot understand why it is so difficult to make a noise cancelling headset that actually works - it seems like the only option are ear pods, but they have horrible audio quality and zero noise cancelling.

I've been using Jabra Bluetooth headsets for many years. For the past several years, I had Jabra's predecessor to the Talk 45 (I forgot what it was called, but looks and functions identically). It has worked incredibly well, until I forgot it in a shirt pocket and it went through the washing machine and dryer. Surprisingly, it still worked afterwards, but won't hold a charge. I ordered the new Talk 45 to replace my old damaged headset. It worked great at first, but after about a month, it started having problems where it would power cycle itself (perhaps a faulty switch?). I contacted Jabra Support (as linked from Amazon). Their tech support was great. I told them that I had already tried the common troubleshooting steps, including resetting the unit and updating the firmware, with no luck. They shipped out a replacement unit that arrived within a few days, despite the potential warehousing slowdowns due to COVID-19 -- I was prepared to wait several weeks or even months, understanding the situation, but was pleasantly surprised when the replacement arrived on my doorstep within a few days. As for the quality of the device itself, aside from this fluke issue I had, this headset had been incredibly reliable and comfortable. I keep it in my shirt pocket all day, every day, and pull it out for anything longer than just a quick call. I love that it has a mechanical switch that I can confidently turn off and not accidentally call someone. I also really like the mute button with an audible tone every couple of seconds to let you know you're muted. It does great accepting Google voice commands. Overall, I am very happy with the unit, so much that I bought an identical replacement for the unit I damaged in the wash. Nicely done, Jabra! Great products and great service!

This was a very dysfunctional earpiece for me in the 3 months I've used it. I rarely take time to write reviews, leave alone negative reviews, but I wanted to warn others who may have high hopes for this one. It would constantly connect and disconnect from the phone for me (RANDOMLY) and to rub it in, would announce the event, disrupting my mind space and ability to hear things with its patter. I could not rely on it to connect when I needed to make a call, nor be connected or remain connected when a call came in. The click to pickup would rarely work and didn't seem particularly responsive nor reliable. The click to end would work all too well at the wrong times, even when the actual call audio wasn't coming through the earpiece. I constantly felt like the evil little thing was messing with me for fun. Connecting and disconnecting it from my computer for video calls was a nightmare. I would have to first turn off bluetooth on my phone to ensure that it was free, and then regularly I would have to erase it from the list of bluetooth devices and then stop and re-start bluetooth on my computer and add the device from scratch, long pressing to activate bluetooth finding / searching to get it connected. And while I was stressfully trying to get set up for video calls and hear what the others were saying, the earpiece would be busy telling me that it was disconnected or connected. The announcements were so frequent that it became mostly meaningless noise. The design of the earclip was also painful because to switch ears, you have to remove the orange ear bud, slip the ring off and flip it etc. Not quick. But necessary due to constant discomfort. It doesn't have a subtle profile on the ear either and sticks out . The positives are that it has a mute button on the earpiece itself, which can be a big deal if you're on calls away from your phone and that the voice quality was excellent, with clear reception for the other person and good, clear and LOUD audio for you. I can give 2 stars for this basic goodness alone because there are many earpieces out there that can't even get this right. It's charge lasted well and I never had a problem with the charging cable, mechanics of inserting the micro usb charging pin etc. On and off button was also a clean toggle & highly haptic. The presence of the mute button (not super well placed though) was made up for by the lack of volume buttons and the inability to pause music or audio books with a button click. All in all, I am so desperate to get back to the Plantronics E50. Curses to this pandemic and global shipping and availability that I cannot find it anywhere. That Plantronics piece is worth its weight in gold, although I'm fearful that after the merger (?) between Plantronics and Poly, this earpiece will be back costing that much.

This is the first Bluetooth headset I've owned (other than bluetooth earphones I use for the gym). I did some research and read that the Talk 45 is an updated version of the Jabra Stealth model. I'm using it with my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and mainly use it while driving. The features are really impressive- after installing the Jabra Assist app, you have the option of having it read your text messages out loud to you, as well as any emails. There's also an option to find your headset should you misplace it, but I haven't used that yet. It announces incoming callers that are on my contact list (I haven't had an experience with unknown callers while using it yet, not sure if it will tell me the ph # or just alert to an incoming call). Its really easy to connect with a contact, by holding down the button it activates Google Assistant and I can either call or text my contact. I have it paired with my phone so that as soon as it turns on, it puts my phone in "driving mode", which sends an automatic reply text to any incoming text message, indicating that I'm on the road and I'll get back to that person whenever possible. I find this handy because should I need to reply to an important text, I can, otherwise the message can wait until I'm not driving. It notifies you about the battery life, but that is also displayed through the Jabra app. As far as battery life you get 6 hours from one full charge. The battery works really really well, but keep in mind I mainly use it when I'm driving so I don't stay on it for hours at a time. It's super light weight, and I can change it from ear to ear by swapping out the red earpiece. One thing to note is that on the Sellers picture, the 4th one that shows everything it comes with is wrong. The picture shows 3 black ear gels in different sizes... it doesn't come with that. You get 2 over the ear plastic pieces (small /large), and one red earbud piece that goes along with the over-ear piece, and 2 rubber red "in ear hooks" one for Left and one for Right, a long with a car charger adapter and a charging cable. Overall I'm VERY satisfied with this this earpiece. I highly recommend it.

My Honest Review of this product- Upon arrival this product was cracked. I also noticed that there was ear wax stuck in the crevices and no ear pad available. The only good thing i can say is that it came with the charging cable , but it was slow charging. I also noticed that the ear hook did not match this brand and was also dirty and used. The Jabra are easy to carry and store. You can adjust them to your ear but the value of this product was poor for what i spent. If they were good i would have been able to use them at the gym or at work. I was not able to use this product.
