I really LOVE the Roomba 505 and docking waste station, you probably will too
We have a very large house, 60/40 tile and carpet. Needed something for routine cleaning. Didn’t think the Roomba 505 would even be able to map the house. To our surprise it did it very quickly. Be sure to open all doors and clear as much of the floor of obstacles as possible for the best mapping. The mopping system works really well (I know lots of Chinese models have had similar features for awhile), but I didn’t want to deal with those companies and waited for iRobot to create a model with these features. The 505 does a great job on tile; with first use it filled the out-water tank with blacken water after double pass mopping over what looked like a generally clean tile floor. Couldn’t have been happier. I have returned to update this review to express how happy we are with its tile mopping. Its impressive how much dirt it picks up on a routine basis. I also have deep cleaned the mop pads in my Samsung drawer washer with great results. The dirty tank gets some grime built up in it, but its easy to clean. The vacuum works pretty well, I understand the double brush vacuums do better, but for general use it picks up the stuff I see typically around the house. I use a Mikita duster to blow out the Roomba's dust bin and filter after a couple of weeks, quick and easy. Keep your station maintained and the whole product should perform well. Its easy to do. The iRobot Home app on my iPhone/iPad still needs improvements. It just got its first update today. My house layout is larger than the software developers probably anticipated. It hard to pick rooms by label, without having to zoom in, as the labels overlap on screen during the room selection process. Note: the map can be zoomed in when doing this once you touch some part of the floor plan first. Sadly, there is no simple list view. Setting up different zones, or correcting missed mapping areas is challenging and cumbersome. iRobot needs to continue focusing on UI and usability improvements to this app. It may frustrate some, and lessen the enthusiasm for Roomba and the dock. NOTE: A great feature would be to direct the Roomba to a mis-mapped area, or changed environment and just have it scan and update that part of the map. Especially so for large houses like mine. We have patterned tile floors and Roomba overcleans some areas "thinking" its some stain or mess. Would be nice to be able to mark these questionable areas as "normal". If you interrupt the cleaning with the app or the battery is low on the Roomba, sometimes the Roomba is left in an odd state. For instance, it won't clean the mop when you expect it should. You can manually force the cleaning routines, but only when a minimum level of battery power is available. Just a few things the app has overlooked and hopefully will eventually be addressed. The user experience and quality robotic system is what will make a "premium" product for iRobot. The mechanical units (Roomba and waste dock work well). The water tanks could be twice the size for my house… but most likely designed for a typically sized house. I am surely planning to keep the Roomba 505, as I expect improvements to the app as iRobot gets more feedback on this newly designed combo vac/mop. There are already articles describing and even better (yet more expensive) 705 combo model on the way. If its better than the 505... it most likely will be worth the extra money. Very happy with this purchase after a few weeks of serious use. Will update if that feeling changes. Summary, I recommend this product at its new price point. A few more weeks have passed, the iPhone app as been updated twice. The app could have a few more nice features added, but it works. We have tile floors that have random patterns, there are a few spots the Roomba mistakes as spills and works very hard to clean them up. This is understandable, and wastes time with extra unnecessary trips back to the dock to clean pads. The app needs a feature to mark and ignore these situations. The Roomba itself has been doing a great job. Its been awhile now and the Roomba is used every day for general cleaning. I works very well, with proper care and feeding. I am impressed the tile floors that typically look clean still manage to brown the empty tank with dirt, kudos Roomba. Do pay attention to the removal and cleaning of the water filter in the bottom to the docking station. I didn't realize it was a plastic removal filter that needed periodic cleaning. Be sure to watch some online videos for the care and cleaning of the robot and docking station. There weren't any real instructions for doing most of this sorta stuff in the box. I do machine was the mop pads (in a Samsung drawer washer) and rinse out the dust filters to extend their use. Don't use any fabric softener with the microfiber pads. Try not to over dry the pads in the dryer, best to exchange pads and let them dry normally. Be careful of the slim clear plastic door in Roomba's dust bin, easy to wash out without noticing. I still really find this Roomba extremely useful and continue to recommend it to those that will take time to use and maintain it properly. The iOS apps gets updates, it still needs a few features to make it of "high quality", but for now its useable enough. Lastly, cleaning the "beater brush" would be far easier if the ends slide out and would allow the tangled hair on the ends to be just easily pulled out. Seems like such a simple and obvious solution, it is a pain to have to pull apart and remove the bound hairs when doing general maintenance. This is something iRobot could fix and improve the user experience a great deal since this is a user serviceable part that needs replacing periodically. I suppose this is my biggest complaint. But, far from a deal breaker. More of a WTF, why didn't you just let the ends of the roller brush pull out just make plucking the hair out super easy? For now my wife just makes me do it, actually I do all of it. :-)

PLEASE BEWARE!!!
I should’ve read the reviews and hopefully if you’re here then you will take this review seriously! The Roomba I ordered didn’t work. I kept getting an error message that one of the compartment tray was full when it wasn’t. I contacted Roomba for tech support. No one answers you have to get a call back. Once they called me back they walked over troubleshooting steps and they realized the Roomba was defective. The customer service rep said she would email a list of things she needed me to email her to be able to initiate a troubleshooting ticket to further help me. I had to upload a receipt from Amazon that I bought the item, a video showing the error message spoken by the robot, among other things. I emailed her immediately everything she asked of me. She said they would contact me in 3 business days. They never did! I called them back and had to wait for them to call me back again the customer service rep said they didn’t have no claim for me and had me do the whole process again. I had the old email I sent them but they didn’t care because it’s all a scam. The company has no intentions on following through with their so called warranty. My Roomba was purchased a month before I called them. It never worked. I should’ve been taken care of immediately. I resent the email and waited again 3 business days still no call. I called again and same thing happened. The customer service rep called me back to tell me that they didn’t have a claim for me and wanted me to do the whole process again. By the way they barely speak English. They were waiting for my return window on Amazon to expire so I would be stuck with a broken item that they didn’t have to fix. Luckily Amazon valued me as a customer and processed the return after the return window expired after I told them of the scam the company had pulled. Amazon received the item and I was fully refunded me. The company IRobot Roomba till this day hasn’t called me back or, reached out via email. A $800 equipment not including taxes and when it stops working you are out of that money. They have no intentions on replacing it or, fixing it. Think about that for a second. This company is scamming people and then they ghost you after they have your money. Not to mention there customer service is not in the USA. The customer service reps barely speak English & can barely understand you. Then they treat you as if you’re a burden for calling. The company as a whole is just awful. Don’t take a chance with them, don’t risk it. I promise you that you’ll regret it. Thank God that Amazon cares about their customers and protects their customers unlike IRobot Roomba.

Pet hair Eliminator!
In our pet palace of long hair kitties, the iRobot Roomba Plus 505 is a dream. I'm impressed by the vacuum and mop quality and functions. You can set it to different settings on a schedule that makes it extremely handy. Vac only, Vac + Mop, Mop only and Vac then Mop. Also, you can select how clean of a run like Deep Clean, light clean or smart clean which I also though was nifty. The iRobot is better at navigating areas and not getting stuck AND washes the mop pads itself. It actually looks like I moped my whole floor. My floor was on the dirtier side, so I let it vacuum, then do a deep clean mode mop everyday for 3 days. For any sticky gunks that were hard to get, I just scraped it mostly off the floor and let it run again. After that initial 3 day deep clean run, my floor looks so good and now its easy to upkeep. I now do daily vacuum schedule and a 3 day a week light mop. Some helpful considerations! Setup with the app was a bit frustrating as there was no physical manual that came with it, so you had to search on their side which was confusing or wait for the app to connect to your device and setup to access it from there. It took 2 days to connect to the iRobot app, but it's now connected and seems to be working great to set schedule and check the levels for maintenance on reordering parts. The left water tank is for dirty water emptying and is quite easy to wash out and replace. Same with the right side with is for clean water. It also comes with an already installed inside dry dust filter and dispose bag and 1 extra. There was also 1 extra mop pad replacement. Once you get to the app, you can check these items including another filter inside and how much use you get before you use these, so there are some extra items you would need to buy to upkeep the machine especially if you are vacuuming a lot of dry trash as those bags seem small. Overall, I am so relieved and happy to have clean floors again! The mopping function is the biggest win on this!

Impressive mapping and cleaning but very noisy!
First let me preface by saying I am brand new to robot vacuums. I went in with zero expectations and honestly this little machine surprised me in a lot of ways. The unboxing experience was great. Everything was packaged securely, nothing felt cheap and the setup was almost effortless. The app walked me through the basics and within minutes it was mapping my first floor. The LIDAR mapping tec is seriously impressive. Watching it build a clean and accurate layout of my rooms felt futuristic. It navigates tight corners and obstacles better than I thought it would at the beginning of setup. It is louder than I expected, noticeably louder than my combo washing machine. It's not unbearable and not while running just while doing it's thing at the docking station. It's not something I would run while watching TV or taking a call. As for cleaning performance, even just using water it pulled up and unbelievable amount of dirt from my hardwood floors that I couldn't see with the naked eye. This is going to be great for everyday maintenance upkeep. Please note that for three standard sized rooms, it used 60% of a full charge. If I add the remaining rooms (bath and laundry room) it might need to dock to recharge mid clean. For the convenience and results, it is definitely worth it. I am now looking into purchasing the IRobot Cleaning solution recommended by the IRobot website.

Fantastic new model worth every penny and minute saved in a busy lifestyle
This new model from iRobot has proven to be a major step up from my previous unit from another brand in the same price range. It does a fantastic job cleaning up my apartment while I'm stuck worrying about other busy life things. It's truly a set it and forget it type device and that's what I need most. I have a two bedroom apartment with 2 small dogs. Most of our floors are either deep piley carpets or smooth white tiles, with a few area rugs here and there. This unit handles them all... thanks to it's mapping features which know when to transition from it's powerful but not offensively loud vacuum to it's really cool dual mop feature to leave my tile floors squeaky clean as to where I'd feel comfortable eating a piece of dropped sushi without worrying about the 5 second rule. (don't tell the wife I did that). The extendable mop pad feature is also very cool - a really innovative idea that makes sure the corners of the room as just as clean, something my other unit did not succeed at. The obstacle detection/camera system seems to work great as well. Long gone are the days of having to prep my room by picking things up off the floor and balancing them on my couches or counters. Avoiding things like wires and my latest amazon deliveries really helps alleviate the burden of having to clean before cleaning. I do still recommend you do a generally good job of organizing your room if you want it to be able to get into certain corners and areas, but it's smart enough to figure out whatever setup you have and this just boils down to good ol' feng shui decluttering. The all in one dock is also a major upgrade. It is quite tall, which works perfectly for our setup as the smaller footprint fits better in my room then previous short and stubby versions and the large refill bins allow me to set it and forget it for a far longer amount of time in between actually having to interact with the unit. Overall, I am super happy with this unit and look forward to many more years of coming home to a clean house before I go mess it all up again.

Worthy Upgrade
The iRobot Roomba combo 505 plus feels like an upgrade over the previous generation. Setting up the device was straightforward, though you do need to download the new Roomba Home app. The app recognized the robot automatically, but the initial update took around 30 minutes to complete. Creating a map was surprisingly faster than the older model, may be in just a few minutes, like due to the new LiDAR system. On the first run, it missed the entire side of my home, but it corrected that in the next run. Map editing in the app (splitting rooms, creating no-go zones, renaming spaces) feels snappy and changes keep loading unless I close the app. The new app definitely feels like it needs a lot of improvement to match the polishness of iRobot app. In terms of cleaning, the suction power is excellent and obstacle avoidance works well, even with wires and small objects around the floor. On carpet, the vacuum is noticeably louder than on hard floors even on balanced setting and it might et louder on max setting. Previous generation model often left behind small amounts of dust, but this one has been performing exceptionally well, even on the balanced setting. For mopping, you fill the clean water compartment , while dirty water gets collected in a separate tank. The dirty water container needs to be cleaned regularly to avoid bad odors. The mop has been effective, I was able to clean sticky spots and even stubborn stains using the SmartScrub setting, which makes a big difference. The main downside is that the mop pad gets very wet at the start, leaving the initial areas much wetter than the later ones. A second drying pass would solve this, but unfortunately the robot doesn't do this automatically. I also noticed it sometimes misses small section of a room while mopping, and the mop doesn't lift high enough, which leaves light dampness on carpets. Overall, despite some issues with the app, this model feels like a clear upgrade. So far it clearly saves time as I had to manually clean in my previous generation.

Little Machine, Big Help
I am very impressed with the iRobot Roomba Plus 505 Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop with AutoWash Dock. I like that it isn’t bulky and can do both vacuum and mop, which makes cleaning much easier. One thing that really surprised me was how it detects stairs and avoids going down them. I actually stood there watching because I wanted to see it with my own eyes. I was impressed when it knew not to fall down the steps. So after I had it map the house, I was impressed with the accuracy. I also like how it cleans in a neat pattern instead of moving randomly. The vacuum and mop settings are great too. You can adjust the suction and choose different cleaning levels from light to deep clean. My favorite is the AI Smart Clean setting. The Roomba app makes everything easy because you can see the map of your home, control the robot, and schedule the cleanings for your home. Most importantly, it helps keep my house clean every day, saves my back from pain, and helps with allergies. It’s a big help in the house, especially when its an active household. I highly recommend this Roomba, you will be happy to have help with daily clean floors.

Combo Vac that seems like it's on the way to being great - but it is not there yet.
I have had Roomba vacs since the beginning. My latest was the model S9 - which cleaned my house daily for 2.5 years. It worked almost flawlessly - until it didn't work at all. It simply lost its "mind". The logic/navigation system failed. It could no longer follow its map, find its own base and would be on the base with it's motor racing away while the app told me it was looking for base - or it was cleaning and had been for hours - when it was on the base, silent and still. Resetting the unit and all other attempts to get it working failed. I could not reach iRobot customer service, which research revealed is a common complaint based on Reddit postings. I feel abandoned by the manufacturer because, I don't know about you, but for me, when you invest $1000 in something and maintain it meticulously, I feel it should last more than 2.5 years. So - in need of a new vacuum I asked the Amazon AI shopping assistant to recommend a new Roomba model for me. Despite the lack of customer service, I simply need these machines - so I will still attempt to reach iRobot. Amazon's Ai assistant asked me many pertinent questions about my home and recommended the Plus 505 Combo. I loved the concept of a combination vac/mop robot - until I didn't. It turned out the Plus 505 is one of the most useless pieces of technology I have ever owned - and that's saying something because I'm into tech. The S9 served my needs. The Plus 505 constantly asked me to serve it - without having vacuumed or mopped much at all. By that I mean, fill and empty the clean and dirty water tanks - which would be fine - but it needed to be done DAILY - when really not much mopping was being accomplished at all. The major problem with the Plus 505 Combo is that the mapping system user interface on the app is FAR inferior to the S9 and other models that allowed you to set up invisible walls. The Plus 505 incorrectly mapped my home - after more than adequate mapping and cleaning runs to get it right. It's not that it misnamed the rooms - which is not a problem because you can change the names to anything you want. The problem is when my kitchen, center hall and living room, which are not open concept, were mapped as one space - that I then could not divide them because the mapping UI does not have that feature, like the S9 did. Other current Roomba models still do have that feature, such as the J7+ and Braava Jet M6. So, for example, if I wanted the Plus 505 to vacuum and mop just my kitchen, it would have to vacuum the kitchen, center hall and living room. The same applied to mapping issues throughout the house. In fact, the Plus 505 decided my kitchen consists of a couple of passes on one side of the kitchen island and that the rest of the room doesn't exist - and there was no way for me to correct that. The Amazon AI shopping assistant told me the Plus 505 has the same mapping capabilities as the S9, which is one of the reasons I ordered it. Also - the dust bin in the robot is smaller than the S9 so it returned to base too frequently to empty the bin into the base. And - I don't have an unusually dusty or dirty home. There's no pet hair or anything else that would fill the dust bin unusually fast. And - the filter in the robot is smaller than the S9 - and it got FILTHY very fast. Yes, the filter is washable - but, along with constantly having to empty and fill the water tanks, the smaller, dirtier filter would mean more of me serving the machine instead of it serving me. Also, the Plus 505 has one roller, where the S9 had two. The Plus 505 roller IS easer to access than the one on the S9 so that is an improvement - however the one roller was promoted as less likely to get tangled - which turned out not to be true, in my experience. The edge cleaning brush on the S9 was never great and the one on the Plus 505 is actually an improvement in terms of function and user maintenance installation. As far as set up and connectivity to WiFI - the Plus 505 arrived with absolutely no written instructions at all. Now, it would be fine to use the instructions on the app - except that the instructions on the app cannot be accessed until after you set up the unit! Since I have experience with other Roomba models I was able to set it up on instinct, but if you do not have that experience and want to buy this unit, maybe find an online setup video. The unit did connect to my WiFi easily. It appears to have a durable , solid build. I respect the coders and engineers who figured out how to get the mop arms to spread out from the unit and how to get the mop pads to avoid rugs and not get them wet when passing over them. And the LIDAR navigation is nice - if it was integrated with accurate mapping and improved UI. That is all commendable. So - if you are so into tech that you will enjoy the many maneuvers and what I call "fancy dancing" this unit does, without minding that not much cleaning is getting done - it is interesting to watch. I applaud clever advances in technology and the human ingenuity that makes that possible, but, for me, the Plus 505 was a step backwards. It feels like it is headed for something great - with more "tweaks" - but is not there yet. So, I returned it. I've ordered the J7+ and the Bravva Jet M6, which ,it seems, both have the advanced mapping UI that the S9 had, where you can divide rooms - they are said to both work on the same map. So now I will have 2 robots doing the job the Plus 505 was intended to do - hopefully.

Great little machine!
So far, I am in love with this machine. We chose very carefully as different models offer different features and we had a ‘must have’ list and had a budget. This model ticked all the boxes- self emptying/self cleaning mop heads, able to avoid a sock or dog toy, recognize carpets while mopping and has good suction. The app is also very useful for programming schedules or ordering clean up on demand. There is a ‘clean zone’ feature which allows you to target hi traffic areas within a room and a spot clean in the app for spills and quick clean ups which replaced the old spot clean. you can quickly pop it onto the house map and she will come clean up a mess in that square. Having her wash and dry her mops is a great feature as you know the mops aren’t going to sit and get moldy. Learning curves: don’t try to run her at night. She needs light to operate her best. Don’t cancel her job unless you are there to put her away, I assumed she would just go back to her dock but she didn’t and she sat on the floor in the dark with wet dirty mops and ran out of battery. With 4 cleaning options, there is something for every need. Vac, mop, vac & mop and vac THEN mop. The difference between the last two are vac & mop is a time saver for light cleaning. if you have really dirty floors you would choose vacuum first, then mop and she will do a better mop job afterwards. Set up was easy with the app and she did a darn good job mapping out the house. Every time she cleans, she gets more intuitive and today I see on our map a picture of our bed with pillows and a toilet in the bathroom, whereas these were just blank areas when she was first mapping. She is also good about alerting us on the app when she has an issue like a closed door or obstacle so we can correct. Make sure you enable alerts on your app. Set up with SIRI was simple. I have a Dyson V15 with the green light that shows dust and dog hair that I was using daily for the wads of dust and dog hair that falls. I used it after she performed a vac&mop and I was pretty impressed by how much she picked up. It will never be perfect, there is always hair and dust in the air that will fall minutes later, but at least I don’t have to vacuum every day and can save a day for a deep clean with my Dyson and let my robot do the rest. Don’t be surprised if you spend a lot of time watching her on the app at first. She’s amazingly thorough and works a grid to cover every inch of floor. This is our first robot vacuum and I am very impressed with our choice, plus we got it on sale and saved $200 so that was the ‘fit the budget’ that was on our list. Below you can see Auntie Alice vacuuming our kitchen.

Perfect to free up time
This Roomba is awesome for pet owners. It sucks up pet hair like a pro on hard floors, and the iRobot app lets you set cleaning zones. It dodges pet messes and has a self-emptying bin that holds 60 days of fur. Mopping’s good for light spills, but needs some help for stubborn spots. Quiet, lasts 90+ minutes, but no auto-lift mop or extra dirt-sensing when mopping. Perfect for pet homes and the Lidar works great for avoiding obstacles

DO NOT BUY
Do not buy this for its namesake, it’s meaningless. The roomba started getting lost for no reason repeatedly shortly after the warranty expired. I changed out the bag and checked underneath it for any obstructions, but it’s still bad at picking up dust and dirt, likely due to its weak suction power. I literally just watch it spread dirt around instead of picking it up. I even followed it around with a broom and swept it in front of the roomba to see if the dust would dissipate over time, nope. I bought it half price on Boxing Day and still feel ripped off. Don’t waste your precious money on it.
