How would one clean a roller? It doesn't look wide enough.

A standard roller will fit inside.

It tapers. It is 1 1/8” at the top entrance and 3/4” at the bottom exit.

Is there advantage between this and any tub with a hole drilled at the bottom?

There are a couple of advantages: 1) it's designed to fit many different sinks while still being large enough to clean brushes and rollers. 2) It has ribbing on the inside to help get the paint off brushes and rollers 3) The drain hole actually extends below the base of the tub, which will help prevent it from moving around when cleaning brushes by using the sink's drain as a way to keep it in place. 4) It's ready to go! No drilling needed! Hope this helps!
