Review: Gute Tipps und Handlungsempfehlungen Review: This book is a deep yet totally accessible guide to living a rewarding life. Phil Stutz has the wisdom that can only come from hearing the struggles of and helping every kind of person—from Rikers Island prisoners to Hollywood Oscar winners—over several decades. He’s now 82 and he wrote this book “with the intention of breaking new ground in the study of human beings.” But his work—and data collection on what does and doesn’t work—began when he was a child, helping his father cope with a terrible tragedy and evidently a subsequent, insatiable desire for safety and reassurance. Phil is adamant that no one escapes the ‘3 pillars of life’: Pain, Uncertainty, and the Need for Constant Work. Just as he and Barry Michels illustrated in their incredible gift to humankind, “The Tools,” you will never arrive at Easy Street, in which the rules of reality don’t apply to you. In fact, attempting to stay in the “Realm of Illusion” will make you miserable. Phil tells great little anecdotes about entitled Hollywood clients who’ve tried. His main directive about what to do for joy and to be fulfilled will be very clear to you. Won’t spoil the surprise, but it’s a thrilling message and I believe the secret to a great life.

True and False Magic captures Phil Stutz’s philosophy in every sentence. Clear and precise, easy to follow, vivid, and deeply motivating. You need faith to apply the tools—but just try them and take action. There’s no external reward, but a creative life in which you can keep moving forward. Provided you’re willing to take the occasional Death Cookie. A powerful and courageous work in times of overconsumerism and instant gratification. Simply brilliant!

Really interesting and helpful book. He pretty much explains a whole new framework for looking at the world so bear with it as the beginning might be a bit confusing. I stuck with it and by the end everything clicked. I personally think it might’ve been easier to understand if the order of the sections were a bit different but alas the information is golden. Definitely a book that gets better by reading it more than once because once you understand the big picture of what he’s trying to say going back and getting the details is easier. Overall, the book gave me a new way of looking at my life and the things I’ve been trying to avoid.
