"A Lie for a Lie" der Auftaktband der "All-in"-Reihe von Helena Hunting überzeugt mit Charme und einer liebevollen Geschichte in der harten Welt des Eishokeys. An sich ist die Reihe eine Spin-off Serie zur "Pucked"-Reihe, aber man muss nicht umbedingt diese Reihe (kompett) gelesen haben, um sie zu verstehen. Wir lernen Rook kennen der Teamcaptain seines Eishokey-Teams ist und einer seiner Teamkollegen den Geburtstags seines Kindes in einem Aquarium feiert. Und genau dort trifft er Lainey wieder, welche er schon einmal vor über einem Jahr getroffen hat. Danach gibt es ersteinmal einen Rückblick zu dem ersten Zusammentreffen von Rook und Lainey und wie sie zusammen nach Alaska geflogen sind und dann doch mehr Zeit verbracht haben. Wie aus Freundschaft mehr wurde und dann unvermittelt wieder Abschied genommen werden musst, wegen äußeren Umständen. Wie sie sich somit aus den Augen verloren haben, obwohl sie jeweils Gefühle für den jeweils anderen hatten und keinerlei Möglichkeit sich zu kontaktieren. Dann das unverhoffte Wiedersehen, aber so einfach ist es nicht, dort wieder weiter zumachen wo sie aufgehört haben. Rook hatte wegen seines Jobs gelogen, weil er nicht umbedingt rausposaunen wollte, dass der professioneller Eishockeyspieler ist und Jainey kann sich jetzt nicht so richtig auf eine Beziehung wieder einlassen. Gefallen hat mir, dass die Geschichte ohne viel Drama ausgekommen ist. Klar nach dem Wiedersehen hat es eine Weile gedauert, bis Lainey Rook wieder in ihr Leben gelassen hat, aber das hatte auch einen guten Grund. Zudem werden die beiden auch viel von Rooks Freunden unterstützt. Eine liebevolle Geschichte, tolle Charaktere ein sehr unterhaltsamer Leseausflug.

It's a simple romance. No drama ot at least it doesn't feel like there's any drama. A tiny conflict that gets solved quickly. An average read, not much else. It's fine but not a great story. Good book to read quickly in between heavier ones

Good story, a bit typical

First, I love Helena Hunting and think she is an immensely talented writer!! Her Pucked series completely owned me, as well as her Shacking Up series. In my opinion, she is the Queen of the romantic comedy!! That being said, I LOVED this book!!! Not only because it was about a hockey player or a hockey player that played on the Chicago Blackhawks with the Pucked guys, but because RJ and Lainey were an amazing couple that I couldn't help but root for!! I loved how they met and how sweet and caring RJ was wth Lainey and her insecurities. He truly was a cuddly, protective teddy bear for her. Their time in Alaska was epic and I hated the way it ended, but it was important to their story. Then, how fate brings them back together is epic!!! Having Violet there to comment on the dolphin mating fiasco was priceless!!!! I loved RJ and how he was a real person dealing with unrealistic expectations that have been put on him. He was a kid from a small town thrown into the limelight as a professional hockey player, and it took him awhile to figure out how to handle it. He made some big mistakes, but luckily learned from them. He was so sweet and genuine with Lainey, except for not telling her he was a NHL player. Lainey was a beautiful, hot mess in the beginning of this story! She was a homeschooled, youngest of 8 children, only girl in the family, anxiety riddled mess but she was trying a new adventure by herself and planning on killing it. I give her so much credit for facing fears to move herself forward in life!! She has her reasons for her anxiety and shares them with RJ during a panic attack, which made my heart go out to her even more. She also has EXTREMELY overprotective parents who are smothering her in the worst way. Once fate brings them back together, it was wonderful to watch them navigate getting their relationship back on track. They really were made for each other!! There are some fantastic secondary characters that make this book great! Of course, the Pucked guys and gals are all back, with their children. That was an amazing surprise!!! There is Lainey's best friend, Eden. She is so supportive and plays an major part in getting RJ back to Lainey. RJ's family is so much fun!! Loved his sister, Stevie, and his mom! There's also the character that we love to hate, which is Lainey's neighbor, Walter. He has been trying to worm his way into Lainey's pants since she moved in across the hall from her, and her going on a date with him doesn't help his ego any!!! Luckily, she doesn't have feeling for him and RJ pretty much puts him in his place!! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys rom-coms that have heart and wonderful characters!!!!
