***The listing no longer claims epoxy compatibility. Ignore that part of the following review.*** First off, this fiberglass mat gets 5 stars from me. The price is good, the quality is good, and it has behaved admirably. But DO NOT use epoxy resin. The fact that the listing (and most on Amazon, for that matter) claims compatibility with epoxy resin is the one negative I have found, and it is not the fault of the product. Brief lesson: Fiberglass mat stays in mat form due to a chemical binder. Otherwise, it would just disintegrate in to thousands of little strands as soon as you looked at it. This binder DOES NOT dissolve in epoxy. You MUST use an ester (poly or vinyl) resin to dissolve the bonds, and gain the proper attributes of the composite. Epoxy simply encapsulates the fiber/binder, and does not properly bond to it, leading to a weak laminate. There are (rare) mats that are specifically made for epoxy resin, and they are essentially sewn together. This is not one of them. A couple tips: -You should never depend on a single layer of fiberglass (cloth or mat) when creating a composite layup. 2 to 3 layers should be used, at a minimum, for proper strength and curing. -Never brush on the resin. You can use a brush with short, stiff bristles (2" works well for most laminations) to apply the resin using a stippling motion. This helps prevent the mat or cloth from moving, separating, and tearing, and forces the air out of your lamination for the strongest bond. You can also use a (metal) roller, sold here on Amazon (or make your own). -Fiberglass mat should be torn, not cut. This helps to preserve the length of the fibers, which improves the strength of the laminate. It also allows for cleaner joints between contiguous pieces of mat, similar to beveling two pieces of wood. Yes, I pay my bills working with fiberglass/composites. I would (will) definitely buy this mat again. I just wish that the price would stop jumping around.

The fiberglass cloth soaked resin without any issue and dried well. Excellent quality, the picture is exaclty same as the product I received. A 50 inch by 380 inch long fiberglass mat in a roll delivered which is exactly I was expecting. Very happy with the product. This fiberglass cloth is the way to go for boat repairs. In terms of what resin to use with product. Please refer to following information. Common fiberglass resins that you can find including polyester and vinylester resins work just well. Polyester and vinylester resins are both styrene-based and catalyzed using methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (known as MEKP for short), which kicks off the hardening reaction. Vinylesters are generally more resistant to water absorption than polyesters, which is why they are often used in hull blister repair. Both are very strong (most all fiberglass boats today are molded and built with one or the other); have good adhesive qualities when applied to properly prepared fiberglass; and are affordable for most boaters (though vinylesters do cost more). Generally speaking, when you’re doing a fiberglass repair, the adhesive qualities of the resin you’ll be using are a prime consideration. In this sense, polyester and vinylester resins are pretty adequate for most do-it-yourself fiberglass boat repair jobs, such as laminating fiberglass cloth into holes or cracks, or reinforcing an area (such as a stringer or transom knee) with woven fiberglass. Thickened polyester resin is also great for making cosmetic, non-structural repairs such as gouges and screw holes. For general fiberglass repairs, it's fine to stick with good old affordable polyester. All that said, epoxy resin is much, much more tenacious when it comes to adhesiveness, and it “sticks” great to boats made of polyester or vinylester. But (and this is a big “but”) polyester and vinylester don't adhere well to epoxy, so if you plan on applying gelcoat to finish the repair (gelcoat is a type of polyester resin), make sure you use polyester. If you try to apply gelcoat to epoxy, you won’t be happy with the long-term results. Epoxy resins also leave behind a slimy coating called “amine blush,” which needs to be cleaned off before you attempt to stick anything else to the surface.

Did the job! Got a little out of control on the jetski and punched a hole in it. I was able to repair the hole completely with multiple layers of this nice chopped fiberglass on the inside and outside. Got a resin kit from Total Boat and now she looks 👌 Very easy to use. Nice and thick chop, perfect for marine patches.

I found this to be a good heavy duty fiberglass. It is consistent in thickness and lets light through evenly. I am a photographer and use it to place over light modifiers to reduce light output. Fiberglass can withstand heat better than most translucent light modifiers. With the slightest touch it sheds 3" "needles" in significant quantities, which are no fun to pick up. I am not sure why they cannot provide both sides with a transparent light glue that will keep the needles from shedding.

This fiberglass showed up exactly as intended! Laminated extremely well, and worked wonderful for my boat! It was easy to handle and did not create a giant mess. Cannot wait for my next project to come around to use again!
