Easy to install, the line is ok for light clothing only

A replacement for an earlier version of the same product that expired after about ten years of regular use - the retracting mechanism made a loud 'twang' and retracted no more! This model which unfortunately doesn't have the same fixing hole pattern was relatively simple to attach to the house wall in my back garden and the line is easily long enough to reach the other end about 25 feet away (that'd be about 8 metres in new money). I considered the provided screws to be fit for purpose so unlike others I've used them and it all looks and feels properly secure. I also like the way the housing (for the rather natty red washing line) folds back to lie neatly against the wall. All in all I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend it without hesitation; it's a well known brand and whilst a little more expensive than other makes of unknown manufacture, I'm confident that I won't find my shirts lying in the mud the next time I put out a wash on a windy day! UPDATE 01/24 - getting on for five years down the line (geddit!) I'm happy to report that all is still well with the washing line. The only very minor issue is that that when not in use, a small length of the line is exposed (as I keep a few pegs clipped on for instant use) - this has faded from a rather attractive red to a less interesting white; the rest of the line is unchanged. Still very pleased with my purchase, money well spent.

Excellent line for your washing and to pack away after use

This is my second identical washing lune. The first one was purchased around 10years ago and the spring rewind was still working well but the plastic cover had perished and cracked in a few places... I'm lazy and leave it out a lot so it gets weathered. I unhooked the old one and simply screwed the fittings into the old raw plugs and it's up and working really well. I pull it out pretty much all the way when using it and when I put it away the spring loading neatly self winds the line away. I don't use the hook under the casing... I have found those tend not to last too long or allow the line to be pulled taught enough. I attach mine to a figure 8 cleat on the wall just under the line. Works perfectly.

It’s literally just failed tonight. Bought in August 2022. The plastic locking pins that you wrap the line around have snapped off. Hollow plastic which could be improved upon if you ever read reviews at Vileda. Three stars as it not used every day and would have expected a bit life out of the brand leader. Will be looking for something similar as I like the fact you can retract these lines out of sight. Hope this helps.

How long do we think this should last? 4 years and it’s corroded and snapped Also please don’t use the standard screws it comes with as it will fall out of the wall!

This is our third one of these. They usually last c 2 years and it’s usually the line itself rather than the spring retrieval reel that goes. After about 12 mths we cut the used line when the plastic sheath breaks, and pull out the reeled line for the second period of use. When that goes it’s impossible to simply replace line in the cassette, so we buy a complete replacement. We live at c 300m and get a lot of rain, wind and wintry weather, plus the line is in a hot spot when the summer comes, so 18 mths -2 years life is acceptable at the price because they do work well and are trouble- free.

Ottimo prodotto per chi, come me, non ha la possibilità di usare il buon vecchio filo di metallo zincato (indistruttibile e sempre la migliore soluzione). Purtroppo il filo interno non è sostituibile e quindi al primo danneggiamento si è costretti a sostituire l'intero prodotto. Il filo è in materiale plastico con un anima in fibra, decisamente resistente alla trazione ma un po meno all'usura per sfregamento, è opportuno tenerne conto quando si vuole far passare il filo da più posti per sfruttarlo nell'intera lunghezza, questo perchè oltre i 5 mt tende a cedere molto soprattutto sotto il sole estivo.

Very easy to install we used different screws than provided so that we could just drill directly into the wood. I recommend double looping the line at the bottom in order to avoid it drooping down while hanging washing. Our be all apartment now has space to hang washing outside to cut the heavy electrical bill. I can easily put away when finished so we can use our small patio area. If the area you’re using it in is small like ours (6.5 m) you can buy a second hook and redirect the washing line so you have two lines for more washing.

Molto comodo e fa il suo lavoro. Io lo uso su un terrazzo. Si fissa al muro con un trapano, le viti sono incluse. Appendo tutti i tipi di panni per il momento resiste ma sono solo 2 settimane. Secondo me il segreto è fissarlo bene al muro, leggermente più alto per appendere anche le cose più lunghe. Cede leggermente con il peso dei vestiti. Lo ricomprerei.
