Is it possible to just hold it in one hand and turn the crank with the otther? Have sharpening blades stayed sharp?

No, you must hold the pencil in place with one hand and turn the crank with the other. My blades have stayed sharp.

Hi, does it come with the original packaging, black box, as seen on El Casco's website?

Greetings to you, my friend. I do recall buying this very beautiful El Casco Pencil Sharpener, from Amazon, back on February 29, 2016, but unfortunately I can’t remember if I did receive it with the black box – you’re talking about. Anyway, all I can say here is that it is a very beautiful device that looks great on my desk and had so many of my friends impressed by its beautiful look and design. Good luck with your buying decision. Warm regards, Kadhim Al-Ahmed – Saudi Arabia
