Rule Britannia!
A tricky build in places but it’s Belfast… a quality history and a worthy model. Worth seeing in the flesh too, on the Thames.

Ark Royal model from the classic AIRFIX
Interesting model with just the right level of detail to make it entertaining. As is usual in this brand, the quality of the materials allows you to customize some of the finishes, which is appreciated among enthusiasts of this hobby.

Come on Airfix
I get that this kit is from the Airfix Vintage Classic's series (kit from 1966) but come on Airfix surely these kits can be given some kind of an update. With the amount of flash on the parts and the barely readable part numbers on the sprues I thought I'd been transported back to 1969 and was building Ark Royal for the first time again.

Satisfying
You know what you get with Airfix Vintage range and in this case a kit with a mould dating back to 1966. So yes, you might require a sanding pad, craft knife, filler and some clamps, and experienced modellers will have these things. But it is a hugely satisfying little project to do. It comes with tiny Swordfish and Fairey Fulmar planes which add interest to the deck and with the use of primer paints up really well.

Poor quality
Will be a challenge as the quality is very poor, eg the gun barrels are in one 'lump' and will need separating . There are missing parts which I have raised with air fix but they say they are very busy and have not replied.I will persevere as I have already bought the paint. I think there will be a lot of gaps when putting together. Must be made from the worn out molds that produced the kit I made back in the 60s
