User friendly. Versatile. Beautiful.
I was in the market for a new amp to practice with because my current setup was cumbersome and dated. I am a beginner to intermediate guitar player for reference. The first thing I noticed was the striking look of this amplifier. I love the white color, gold trim accents, as well as the deep red of the handle's underside. It looks great and the Mrs. approves when I have this sitting on the desk or table. During my first setup I knew this would be a much more enjoyable experience than my previous, dated amp and my Zoom digital effects pedal. The 8 built-in guitar tones are great and I found myself chugging in Drop-D for an hour before I even connected the phone app. Holy cow does this little amp pack a punch! I don't know how loud this gets because I'm sure my neighbors would complain if I went past half volume on it. I use YouTube all the time for guitar tutorials as well as backing tracks. I appreciate being able to play the lessons through the speakers and hearing my guitar at the same time. Yeah, you can also use this as a bluetooth speaker and it sounds great. If you want there is an option for a battery. There is a door on the bottom of the amp for the proprietary battery (sold separately). You can take this thing tailgating with music or play some sick riffs anywhere you want. The accompanying app will allow you to configure new guitar tones and set them as one of the 8 guitar tones. There is also a built-in looper that I know was missing on the 1st version of the spark. It works like it should. Finally, there is the option for expansion with the built-in outputs on the back. When I become a rock star, I will be able to tap into the venue's sound system or a larger amp and still use the Spark 2 as my guitar effects pedal. Overall, I have really enjoyed this amp and I have practiced more in the past week than I have in years due the ease of set-up and bluetooth connectivity. I know I have barely scratched the surface on this amazing little amp and I'll try to post an update in 6 months to a year. In the meantime, keep rockin'.

Yes it's fantastic, but be aware of hidden costs
I was a professional musician and guitar teacher for several decades. When I was teaching nothing like this existed, but if it had I would have recommended it with zero qualms. If you are starting out and want to improve fast, this practice amp is beyond fantastic. It is small, and potentially portable (see below), and has 50w of volume! Go on YouTube and look at the feature list and demos. If you are an experienced or advanced guitarist and want a great little practice amp that you can carry wirelessly all around the house (10 LB) , it's a no-brainer. Apparently, Steve Vai uses one of the smaller amps (Spark MINI Vai) from Positive Grid to warm up backstage before performances. The app is awesome, has a ton of great features, and is pretty easy to use. The list of amps and effects included is comprehensive. The future is great! Now for the potential downside. This amp is part of a product ecosystem. You can buy and enjoy it as it comes, and it is more than worth it at the cost as is. BUT, to unlock the full potential of this product, you are looking at additional purchases. Here are the add-ons with the prices at the time of this review 2025: 1 To make the product truly portable you will have to purchase the proprietary battery. This costs $79 before tax and shipping. 2 There is the foot-switch Spark Control X, that allows for hands-free control of preset switching and looper on/off control. This costs $179 before tax and shipping. 3 There are in-app purchases to unlock a Jimi Hendrix-branded set of guitar amps and effects. This costs $20. 4 There is the Positive Grid Spark LINK Digital Wireless Guitar System. This allows for cable-free guitar operation. This costs $149 before tax and shipping. In my opinion, the Hendrix presets and the battery should have been included with the product. Portability is what the product is selling, so you need the battery. Making the battery a separate purchase makes the low price of the Spark 2 deceptive. The Hendrix amps and effects load with the app as add-on nagware and cannot be removed from the menu without purchase. This is an unacceptable in-app purchase. The digital wireless guitar system and foot-switch controller are arguably optional. Not everyone would want these. Positive Grid has set this up as an ecosystem, letting you buy add-ons as you need them, rather than automatically including them. This is not necessarily bad, and will save some users a lot of money. It makes the entry-level cost low. Just think in advance of how you will be using the setup, and budget accordingly.

Guitar players need this!!!
A friend told me I should get this for my husband because it would be so much easier to carry. My husband really likes it. It sounds so clear. Has lots of controls that you can use with Bluetooth from your phone. No distortion unless you want it. He has 5 friends that have bought one after seeing and hearing his. Great little amp.

Read the instructions.
First off, I do not review many products. They have to be either bad, or really, really good. This one falls into the latter bucket. I've been playing the guitar now for about 25 years, off and on, but not seriously until recently. I picked up a bunch of gear earlier this year, and had a list of pedals and other stuff I was planning to work through, but lucked across the Spark series. I'd planned to get the Go, which technically does what I needed it to do right now, but decided to spring for the Spark 2 so I don't have to go get another one in a few months. Boy am I glad I did! Wow. I have only spent a couple days with the amp so far, but already I've thrown away my old list. I simply don't need any of it. The amp models and pedal options check off literally everything. I would highly recommend this for anyone at any level. If you're not looking to spend as much, the smaller models do all the same stuff. Get your foot in the door, ASAP! After a couple days, I was sick of staring at my phone for hours (the app keeps the screen on, at least on Android) and reconnecting the app every so often (I suppose if the app doesn't use the connection, the phone closes it to save power), so off to Google I went. Turns out there's an app (PC/Mac/Linux) that someone created (no affiliated with Positive Grid at all, from what I can tell) and web browser based option out there, which I found much easier to use. There are also pages with mappings from the names of the amp models and pedals in the app, so don't be afraid to dig around. All around, exactly what I wanted, before I even knew I wanted it. Also, everything I needed, with zero hassle. Plug it in, turn it on and jam. It takes a little time to get used to the app, but it's not exactly simple; finding a starting point is impossible to screw up though and you can go from there. Professional sound in a portable package that requires little to no experience to start using. EDIT: The SoundShed app technically supports the Spark 40 and Mini, but I have used it with the Spark 2 and it works to control the details of existing presets, change the amp/pedal models and switch to other amp-stored presets, but you can't switch to something that's not already saved and can't use the ToneCloud setups. This is not a dealbreaker for me, since the phone app works well for that, and with the Windows Phone Link you can see it on a PC. I just wanted to clarify since I started poking around and noticed. The SoundShed desktop app doesn't work well with the 2, but the web version does.

Amazing Product. Sub par company customer services/policies
Positives This amp sounds great and what you get for the price is outstanding. I own a couple of Neural DSP plugins and while not many amp emulators can come close to neural DSP quality this amp does have some tones that sound almost just as good. This amp however is not meant to record or perform with. Its a practice amp and using the app unlocks a-lot of fun and being able to quickly start jamming with backing tracks and the AI tone generator is so much more seem-less than opening a DAW and creating a drum loop. The build quality is also another high point. I was actually amazed by the knobs and overall construction of the amp which feels premium. Negatives I bought the amp through Amazon but at the same time through their own website they had a promotion (which I didn't know about till the amp arrived). I emailed asking if since I bought the amp during the promotion window if I could get access to the promotional gift card to which they declined. I would have used to promotion to buy more positive grid products. I completely understand their reasoning for denying the promotion request, it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth that they wouldn't treat customers across different buying platforms with the same promotions. I understand if Amazon was the one giving the promotion why they wouldn't be able to honor it through their website. But it seems very easy to give the promotion that is through their own website to their own Amazon listing. So if you plan on buying their products I suggest checking across the web to see if there are any promotions first.

Worth It!
Here’s a tightened, polished version of your review that keeps your voice but reads a bit smoother: ⸻ I’ve spent years collecting amps, always chasing specific tones—and within minutes of plugging in the Positive Grid Spark 2, I found all of them and more. It’s a small, lightweight practice amp that’s perfect for home use, especially compared to my larger amps that would shake the windows. Despite its size, the tone options are incredibly versatile and impressive. I did have a little trouble during setup (user error on my part), but once I got it dialed in, it’s been seamless. Now it links automatically every time I turn it on. Highly recommend

Just get this amp and dive in…
The amp arrived a day earlier than projected. It can’t be shipped by air due to the magnetic material. It’s packaged well. I was a little disappointed that for Thanksgiving special their own site was offering both reduced prices and the bag, while not so on Amazon. But this is a minor nitpick for me. I wanted the convenience of Amazon returns should it not have worked out. I was pitching it against the Boss Katana 50W and while I read many positive reviews it was unknown territory for me. I have come to discover what many users already know and have said so in their eloquent reviews. This is a fantastic amp! Thought it has its own ecosystem which is a good thing as it turns out. I’m just beginning to discover its myriad features. The sound is great. I downloaded a different amp profile and am beginning to see the benefits of software profiles for amps and pedals. Also Apple Music connectivity, its own library of music features + backing tracks + … So much more. For those considering it - just get it. My only disappointment so far (which may be resolved if I dive deeper into learning about it) is the duration offered by its looper. It seems short.

Great amp!
You need this. As a musician, this amp holds up with the best of them. Love using the app to jam and change the sounds. Speakers sounds nice, easy Bluetooth connection, small size and portable, fun to use!

Impeccable
Juste parfait.

Spark 2. Great technology.
Pretty good product. Great for practice. Be aware you need the app and a device to use this product. It can’t really be used by itself.

Quality Product (Despite The Hype...)
After seeing all the endless hype of Positive Grid stuff (and having owned the Spark Mini before), I decided to finally take the plunge and order a Spark 2 that was on sale.... Pros: 1 - Sounds : sounds great for a tabletop amplifier. This wont replace your tube amplifier (or even high end modeller) but it will give you the essential tones needed to practice, teach and probably gig with if used correctly via the Line Out. It definitely does higher gain sounds better than it does cleaner/crunchier tones as I find myself loving the YJM100 Plexi and Soldano amps for my core distortion tones. It can also get loud! 2 - Feature Set : 2 banks of patches (8 in total), built in effects, looper and line-out make this a complete package for practicing and even recording. Having a dedicated knob for your guitar volume and a separate one for audio-playback is really important as I am glad the Spark 2 has it laid out the way it does. 3 - Build Quality : simply excellent. Leagues above anything else in the same price range as it looks great with the faux amp covering and grill. It all feels premium out of the box with the cool packaging and included strap for it - nice! 4 - App: while I am not a fan of app-reliant amplifiers, the Spark app is one of the most slick experiences I have had compared to other companies like Boss, Yamaha and NUX. Once you load in your sounds, you can turn the app off and use it standalone while saving things from the amp itself. 5 - Bluetooth : really impressed that the Spark 2 essentially has 2 bluetooth channels ; one for app control and one for audio. This means I can stream music from my laptop and edit the amplifier using my phone - honestly, bloody brilliant as a guitar teacher! Playback sounds great as It can be your house multi-medi boombox quite easily. Cons: 1 - Effects : some of the built in effects are just bad (the phaser is diabolical), as I largely have issue with the stompbox and modulation effects with not much choice on offer compared to other products out there (NUX Mighty Space has way more in this department). I generally find myself using the core amp sounds with delays/reverbs as those actually sound quite good when dialed in. 2 - Additional Bits Cost £££ : if you just want the amplifier, no problem. If you want the internal battery, the footswitch and the carry bag then prepare to pay way more on top for the whole setup. Add up all that cash and you can grab a smaller tube combo for home or a larger digital/solid state amplifier with way more options included. 3 - App Reliance : simply put you need the phone app to load in different effects, operate the looper/rhythm parts properly and get full functionality from the amp. Also sucks that there is no dedicated PC application as I like to do most things from a laptop. If you are a purist and hate smart phones, look elswhere! 4 - Sensitive To Placement : a tabletop amp like the Spark 2 can sound really different when you have it on the floor or well... a tabletop! I generally found it a bit too muddy on the floor with some weird overtones in the high end as I think it sounds best on top of a guitar cabinet, amp stand or a small stool. Sounds oddly specific but experiment on the placement of the amp in your room as you will get wildly different results. Overall, it is a quality product as I think the hype is well deserved with the Spark 2. It is a solid option for practicing, teaching and recording that should get you playing in no time!
