Reliable Hardwired Smoke Detector With Long Lasting 10 Year Backup Battery
These smoke detectors work exactly as expected and integrate well into a hardwired system. The installation process was straightforward, and the interconnect feature adds an extra level of safety by ensuring all units alarm together. The LED indicators are clear and make it easy to confirm normal operation at a glance. The standout feature is the 10 year backup battery. Not having to replace batteries or worry about chirping alarms for a decade is a major advantage and reduces ongoing maintenance. For anyone upgrading or replacing hardwired smoke detectors, this two pack offers dependable performance and long term convenience at a reasonable cost.

Smoke Detectors Must Be Changed Every 10 Years! Make it count!
I just found out that smoke detectors must be changed every 10 years. My old Kidde hardwired smoke detectors have been working perfectly for 15 years, no false chirps or beeps. I do change the 9V battery every year which really helps. But even with maintenance, the parts can fail and render the smoke detectors inoperable and inaccurate. Your insurance company might also refuse or reduce your payout in the event of a fire if you have old detectors. My search for replacements was pretty easy since Kidde is well known and well respected, and I've had no issues with them for the past 15 years. I purchased the hardwired interconnectable version with the 10-year battery backup. The thought of not having to change the 9V batteries each year and not climb up and down ladders was a huge motivator. The entire process of taking down the old smoke detector pictured on the right and putting up the new one on the left took a few minutes for each unit. Even though it's essentially the same company and detector, they did change the plug and mounting bracket. Although the mounting bracket looks the same, the new one is much thinner, and the new smoke detector will not fit on the old mounting bracket. To make it even easier, I also purchased the Kidde adapter so I didn't need to rewire any of the units with the new plug. So I took down the old unit, took down the old mounting bracket by loosening two screws, installed the new mounting bracket, and installed the new smoke detector with the new plug adapter. Again, about 2 minutes for each unit. I did read the instructions and did follow them. The one note to save you time and trouble is to make sure you activate the battery BEFORE you plug the unit into the wiring harness. You will hear a beep when you activate the battery either by mounting it to the bracket, which I did before I installed the bracket on the ceiling, or with a screw driver prior to mounting it to the bracket. After you hear the beep, then plug it in and mount it to the bracket. If you're looking for an easy replacement for your hardwired, interconnectable smoke detectors that require no maintenance for 10 years, this is the one!

Too many nuisance alarms
I researched, purchased, and installed. I want the best for my family and didn't want to deal with those pesky low battery alarms that plagued our last set of smoke detectors. Everything installed great, and I almost forgot about them (seen and not heard sort of thing--as it should be) until last month. While the kids were at school, the detector in my son's room alarmed, setting-off the whole house (while my wife is working from home). Nothing seems to have caused it. I reset it. Two days later, it happened again during the day while I was there. No amount of beeps and lights and internet searching could tell me what was wrong. I called customer service, because one of my kids is on the spectrum and sometimes has sleep issues. Customer service says that it could be dust or a tiny spider and to use compressed air to blow it out. Done. Hopefully, the problem is solved. Nope. A week later the living room detector alarmed. Thankfully during the day. Fast forward to about 10 days ago. Some time after midnight, every detector in the house is alarming due to the garage detector going off. With chest pains from being violently awakened in the night, I removed the garage detector, blew it out with the air compressor, reset it, and left it disconnected on the freezer for tomorrow. Thinking that some dust from shipping must be on all of them, I resigned myself to cleaning them all tomorrow. After some breathing exercises to help flush the adrenaline out my system, I was able to go back to sleep. I thank God that my son seemed to sleep through it. Unfortunately, it happened again about five nights later at about 1am. Same adrenaline rush, same chest pains. I'm writing now because it just happened again around 7pm this evening with the detector in my son's room. Third time with this one, sixth time across three different detectors overall. I was just considering replacing the garage detector with an ion type (these are photo-electric, I think), but now I'm not so sure. I spent over $200 on these for their high rating and ten-year sealed battery, but the low-battery chirp a few times over ten years is starting to look mighty attractive rather than regular, random nuisance alarms.

Reliable, more sensitive detector, built-in 10-year battery, fits older mounting
After 12 years of reliable service, I had to replace the older P12010 smoke detectors. This new Kidde model comes with a built in 10-year battery, so you never have to purchase expensive 9v batteries every year, has a more sensitive detector for faster warning, best of all, the installation was painless. Just loosen the 2 screws holding the old mounting plate, put in the new one and tighten the screws. I had purchased wire adapters to fit the old connector to the new one. The units are permanently wired so that if one alarm sounds, they all do. The unit is good looking and takes up the same space as the old.

Powerful nightlight masquerading as a smoke detector
These nightlights are incredible! Extremely bright green light that lights up the bedrooms and hallways wherever installed in my house. Also, they double as an alarm! The alarm sound is quite loud and effective - I just need to figure out how to set it to go off at 6:00 am when I get up because it is LOUD and would make me get out of bed. Interestingly, the package claims these circular nightlights can detect smoke. I haven't tested that feature yet and kind of hope I never have to. But really effective nightlight feature if that is what you want and need in your house. ---- All sarcasm aside, installation of these smoke detectors was quite easy. I was going from a previous Kidde smoke detector that I didn't love (2 of 7 had failed under warranty - a couple others chewed through the back-up AA batteries - and when one failed or hit "low battery" status, 4 out of 5 times it would happen at 2:00 am). But I didn't want to take the time to rewire for a different brand, so I went with these and the Quick Connect adapter (https://www.amazon.com/Kidde-Compatible-Hardwired-Combination-Detectors/dp/B0D5TD3GJF/141-2024226-8611610) and my seven 10-year-old detectors were replaced in about 20 minutes. So far, none have failed, which is a better track record than the previous models we had. But I am not kidding when I say that the green light on the front is extremely bright. My wife and I like our bedroom dark, and this thing is truly like a nightlight that illuminates the entire room with a gentle green glow. After giving ourselves several nights to try to get used to it, we finally put a small piece of tape over the light to dim it - and it STILL can shine through the tape! But if these things don't fail as often as the previous generation, I'll let these remain a 4-star product. If they could dim the green light, I'd bump it up to 5. So other than the annoying light, these detectors seem to be good.

Great for a set of new or replacement Smoke Detectors
I installed this smoke detector with ease as everything came provided in the box. I simply removed the previous template on the ceiling and then installed the one that came with this set. Wiring was easy as it was already color coded (red, black, white). The lifespan lasts 10 years with the built-in lithium battery. Sound level was pretty loud during the test I performed. The size of the smoke detector is typical 6" diameter you find with this and other brands. I have not tested it with actual smoke but one day I'll update this review of it happens.
