Barbour Thornproof Dressing, No Color, One Size

I purchased this instead of the Otter wax as I felt the reviews were better. Otter wax at 16oz is the same price as this Barbour at 8oz which I'm not happy but wanted to try the Babour..Did a light weight 100% cotton jacket following instructions on the can using a cotton rolled up sock to apply. It worked but feel a brush would do a better job with less mess regardless of their instructions. Also tried the hair dryer and or heat gun to evenly distribute the wax and found the ideal absolute best way to do this was with a old iron ,non steam I used to wax my skis with..This method did a excellent job of letting it penetrate evenly and gave it a great result..The jacket turned out very soft and supple with plenty of wax impregnated throughout with a single application. I did not get the crinkle type patina some like as by looking at it you would not know it is a waxed jacket but I believe I could do another application to get those results or perhaps the shine like a Filson..Do The Iron in method for excellent results..Also a brush on method should work fine as using a cotton applicator to rub it in seams useless as the final application of a heat source is what really allows this to penetrate regardless..1 can did a below waist light weight jacket and I used it kind of sparingly..To be sure get 2 cans to do an average size coat or garment. Barbour is not cheap for 8oz but the excellent results are a finish which is soft and not stiff with one application at least my result..I will try the Otter wax next before I pay double for this again..

There is a learning curve to get used to how to apply, but once you heat it up to a good temperature and keep working it with a hair dryer on one hand to keep it warm while applying to the jacket, it works like a charm. The key is to keep the jacket and the wax warm at all times, so it is more fluid. In the factory, they do this on a warm plate, so the jacket is warm all the time when applying wax. The hair dryer also works well. My beat-up 8-year-old jacket turned out to be new again, amazing instant upgrade. Barbour stores used to do these relatively cheap, but they ask too much now I think close to $100. This is your best bet.

After reading a lot of reviews, I thought this process would be tricky. But it was easy and quick to wax my Barbour jacket, hood, and even the dog’s jacket. It took maybe 15 minutes to apply, heat with an hair dryer, and wipe clean. I opened the wax can, put it in a pot of a few inches of water, and heated it up on low heat until all of the wax had melted. Then I used an old washcloth that I would later throw away, dipped it in the melted wax and rubbed it all over the jacket in small sections, making sure that it was a thin coat and that wax got right into all of the seams. Then I used a hairdryer directly on small sections of the jacket to melt the wax into the fabric and wiped it all down with the same washcloth to take off any excess wax. The jacket looks fantastic. I was surprised at how easy and quick this process was.

Applies and works as advertised. Best when you have a nice hot sunny day and microfiber pads.

It will require 2-3 cans to complete the job. Works well. Advise against excessive application. Good product overall

My partner, donning his beautiful Barbour raincoat, was hugged by an old friend who had a wet paintbrush in his hand. Great to see and old friend, but... dang it!!!! White paint was everywhere! We called Barbour and they recommended replacing the damaged panels. It is wonderful that they offer that option, but not an inexpensive proposition. At that point we had nothing to lose, so I soaked the coat in room temperature water and I got a butter server (not butter knife!). I lightly "scraped" the latex interior house paint of in small sections with the dull butter server. The original wax came off, as we knew it would, but so did most of the paint. I removed the final traces of paint with a WetOnes towel for sensitive skin, by wiping around the impacted area. Again this further removed the original wax to nearly untreated cotton. I did this for a couple hours and removed all of the paint. At this point I was all-in with the challenge and didn't care that my time could have been better spent buying a new jacket and doing something fun. We got this one in Scotland! It was sentimental. I was not going to give up...I was going to revive this jacket and my man was going to think I am a goddess!!!! So I heated up the wax on the stove, as specified by the manufacturer, and we each took a portion of an old t-shirt dipped in into the wax (for any of you who thought my man should be cleaning his own damn jacket, up until this point he thought I was a little nuts, but loved me to pieces for even trying, and was super supportive and very interested in the process...as soon as their was proof of life, he was all in to help) and we began covering the affected spots in circular motion (quoting Karate Kid at some stage of the process). We covered the entire jacket, and went over the "painted patches" several times. We were careful not to over wax any particular spot and made sure the seems we're well coated. We hung it to dry for a bit, then polished it with a clean portion of another old t-shirt. Like magic, it was perfect! You cannot even tell where the paint was. It looks new, has that new Barbour sheen back and it is once again perfectly waterproofed. This product is an investment of your time, but so is a Barbour jacket. It is well worth the effort! I don't recommend it in lieu of couples therapy, but it was a great bonding experience!

Great wax for any jacket Barbour or otherwise! Though a touch pricier than others like Otter Wax, I feel like anyway. I’ve used it on both my Barbour jackets and a few Kuhl ones.

One can was enough to re-wax two jackets. Would recommend to boil the can till the wax is transparent for a more effective applying process.

Refreshed a Belstaff jacket with this product . Thebout cime looks good, although I’ve not been out in the rain yet to check waterproofing yet. Method of application. Find someone to help you!! I covered the kitchen table with polythene off a roll used to cover floors etc when decorating, it resembled a scene from Dexters kill room, but it did save the table from getting wax on it. We have a hot stone massage set, so I utilised the ‘bath’ you put the stones in to keep the wax warm, this made the job much easier. How many times you’d have to fill the kettle to keep it warm I do not know, but the whole process took 1.5 hours. We used a hair dryer to keep the wax working when applying with a small sponge (bought off amazon, sold as a pottery sponge). We took time to ensure all seams had sufficient attention, and then started on the pockets before venturing to the larger panels. With two people one can hold the garment and sponge the wax in, whilst the other can make sure the wax remains warm enough with the hair dryer to apply. Overall it’s a relatively easy process, but I would definitely recommend hair dryer and two people. Good luck
