I had no idea until recently that Estwing had this model or the Spike model until recently. I love these kinds of tools, especially when you consider the price. The Double Bit Axe is of the same quality as the rest of Estwing's line of tools, and I feel like a kid again when I take it into the woods. The axe is extremely solid because of its all steel construction, but with that comes a bit of weight. This axe is a bit heftier than it might look, but i'd rather have the extra bit of weight for the conviction that this tool is going to last a long time.The edge wasn't great from the factory. It has more of a utility edge, but I was able to get the sharpness to where I wanted it fairly easily. I've been using this as a thrower, do I don't want the edges too thin. The edge for the factory was a good starting point for me, though.The one thing I'm going to try and do is round off the flare at the bottom of the handle so it slips easier from my hand during the throw release. I'm just going to do a little research and find a good way to do it without compromising the material on the handle. I don't want to louse it up and start having the handle start to fall apart.For the price, you can't beat this hawk. It'll hold up as a great tool, and still give you hours of fun.

Well built, solid construction. Blades came sharp out of the box. Sheath is high quality.Axe is much heavier than I realized it would be. I have yet to use this in the bush yet, but I can not see how this would be used with one hand for very long. While this is called an axe, it's size is that of a tomahawk. This puts this little axe is a more narrow niche. It's too short to be used like a regular axe, and too heavy to be used like a regular tomahawk or hatchet. I regret my purchase, but not in any way because of the quality of this tool, thus the five star rating. I do wish I had bought the tomahawk version, which weighs 10 oz less.By the way, I am not a weakling. I move furniture and appliances for a living. I just think this tool fits a much more narrow niche, and I hope my review helps someone with a decision.For me, I either need a hatchet or an axe, and this fits neither.-Bill (on my wife's account)

Easily one of the best purchases I've made. Solid ax. Cuts through wood with ease and it's heavy - which helps your cause. If you're out in the field or a camper, this is a must have. High quality ax. Highly recommended!

Good solid ax. Ax head is a bit small for my taste but not so small that it prevents use. It came quite sharp but the edge was "rough", a little time spent with a fine stone and it's perfect. Its weight is respectable, you can feel the steel, so to speak. The handle is akin to one you'd find on a decent hammer but it's long enough to fit both hands on should you need to. The ONLY reason (and it's a nit picky one admittedly) that I didn't go 5 stars is the ax head, between the blades, is rough and bumpy, reminding me of poor drop forging. A bit more grinding would have eliminated the problem so I gigged the manufacturer for laziness, lol.All in all you could do much worse than this little bugger especially for the price paid.

Solid as a rock, just like their hammers. I wasn’t sure how it would hold an edge. I’ve taken it camping 3 times now and I’m impressed. After cutting down a couple of 4-5” dead wood trees for firewood, and splitting them up, one side still had a sharp edge. I always carry a puck when camping, so I honed it. Its too heavy for backpacking but an awesome, dependable tool. I highly recommend it.

I've had this particular axe (the double bit) for approximately a year now and I felt like I needed to give Estwing some love and write a review. I'm kind of a "knife/tomahawk" guy and own a couple of tomahawks however I wanted to review this for one reason. I actually use this in my line of work (ie LE work). I wanted to give a made in the US product a go and I couldn't beat the price. Once I got it I realized this tool is pretty substantial. It looks like a mating beween a viking hand axe and something you would pick up at Lowes...so the sexy factor..yea it's not as "tacticool" as others but this thing tears some Ass.I've used it mainly in raids, I've destroyed numerous security cameras with it, hacked my way through a trailer door with it, tore up some floor boards, destroyed a sentry brand safe with it (I've actually breached 8 safes with this bad boy), smashed door knobs, hacked open a 5 gallon water jug filled with illegal contraband (took me four hits, 5 gallon water bottles are thick...try to stab one with a good knife like a Ka-Bar and see what happens). Now some people knock the nylon sheath and yea I won't lie, something with Kydex and a MOLLE attachment would be sweet, but my solution was pretty simple. I carry it on my armor carrier using a D-Cell flashlight ring, same principle like a medieval knight would of used for a hand axe. On the sheath are a couple of snap buttons. I made a loop with some 550 cord and attached it to the top of the sheath. I unbotton two of the snaps and kind of jiggle it on. Slap it my ring and I'm ready to rock. Once I need it I just slide it out the ring pull the sheath off and start wailing.The edge sharpens up fine as long as you know how to sharpen an axe. I really have abused this thing and it keeps on going. I clean it off touch up the edge a bit and thats the only maintenance. If you want it for camping I think it would be great for that, but I have a different axe for that so If you're in the market for a tactical hawk' and If you're someone (ie cop, operator, mil) that actually USES tactical hawk's for destroying stuff...then this is your gal right here.

Have to say I'm very impressed! This is a stout "hatchet, tomahawk,.... thing." It doesn't easily fit any category. It's a good thrower for playing around if your into that.It's very sturdy and cuts great. Good for delimbing, chopping kindling, felling small trees, etc... It's weight sits firmly at the blade end and puts plenty of power in your swings.Did need a sharpening but, nothing game changing we aren't talking file work just a few passes on a whetstone. This is a quality tool that will most likely outlive me! If you're looking for a hawk or a small camp axe or something for very scary home defense this will fit the bill.

This little thing is awesome. Works well for throwing too. Not very heavy for splitting bigger stuff, but perfect for kindling.

Lieferungen war zügig und alles ist super und leicht geschärft angenommen. Das Beil wirkt sehr robust. Ich hab es zum werfen auf Holz Ziel Scheiben gekauft. Schaut auch echt schick aus, zum hacken ist es auch sehr gut geeignet, man könnte jede Seite für den gewünschten Zweck anschärfen und erspart sich somit das mitführen eines zweiten Beiles.Ich lass es aber so wie es ist, stumpf wird es von selbst, man braucht keine scharfe Axt zum werfen. Näheres kann ich euch in paar Monaten sagen

Semplicemente splendida. Robusta e si impugna molto bene. Vernice nera saltata in un piccolo punto, ma direi che considerata la qualità ed il prezzo attorno ai 37 euro non posso lamentarmi.Davvero un ottimo prodotto!

Best axe ever!! 36oz of destruction!! Estwing dependability like all of they're other tools! Good for campsite or survival. Holds a great edge! Slim profile really penetrates with every hit! Handle is comfortable estwing construction good for use on both sides. Also tried throwing and it excels at that also!! Good balance.

I have multiple small to medium-large axes, and this one is one of my favorite. It is balance for pro throwing, double-axe blades, sturdy enough to cut wood and feel incredible in hands.
