EDIT!! BROKE AFTER APPX 20 USES — early love for the MicLock upgrade!! But it's gone.
EDIT... POOR QUALITY. I RARELY USED MY MICLOCK AND ONE OF THE FEW TIMES I CAREFULLY USED IN MY NEW MODEL GALAXY ULTRA I WENT TO GENTLY REMOVE THE MICLOCK AND IT LEFT BEHIND IT'S MALE USB-C IN MY PHONE. ATTEMPTED TO FIX BUT THE LACK OF A STRONG THERMOPLASTIC COLLAR AT THE JOINT OR ANY SOLDER POINTS LEFT IT COMPLETELY USELESS AFTER ONE MALE C REINSERTION INTO MICLOCK BODY. WAS TWO STAR, CHANGED TO 1 BECAUSE TRYING TO NAVIGATE AWAY AFTER INITIAL EDIT SUBMISSION REVERTED TO ORIGINAL REVIEW. FURTHER EDITS POSSIBLE IF THEY REPLACE UNIT, OR ENGAGE IN SOME CS. I TRIED THE AMAZON HOSTED "SUPPORT" BUT THAT IS A BOOTLOOP OF WORTHLESS TROUBLESHOOTING DRIVERS N SUCH. NOT HELPFUL. I HAVE NOT ENCOUNTERED A MECHANISM TO REACH OUT TO MICLOCK. Anyway, be overly careful with your miclock or it will leave it's male USB-C behind in your device. For those that are Privacy & Security conscious this is a must have. It disables your on-board mic unless you have either a stereo input, or a stereo-adapted input microphone you are using. If no stereo input is plugged in, then your factory mic will not function; so no snooping on your mic; (but also don't sleep on those camera sliders, covers, or even non-translucent tape for your cams). Hackers don't deserve to record your most intimate Amazon shopping sessions, the weird faces and groans we direct at our phones, nor the righteous berating of a family member, friend, coworker, or acquaintance that failed you and your expectations, not even the expert-level, (yet totes profesh) takedown and dismantling of a disagreeable CSR that is refusing, to, like, rectify their overcharge for an adult site subscription, that may or may not have been legitimate, ... just to see what it was all about, or you know, maybe not... it could have been your stoner roommate, right? But seriously, my 100% guaranteed organic, freshly picked farm to consumer comedic asides aside, this amazing product has me so stoked to not be [maybe] contributing gigs of data to any State-level Threat Actor's data farm. For all of us this depends on our attention to detail and attentiveness to Privacy & Security hygiene and best practices; ... Well that, and how interesting or uninteresting you are to any given dictator and/or thier spy services director. 🫠 Oh! And another bonus feature (for me anyway) is that this version of the MicLock pretty much functions as a tiny USB-C port mini-hub, to the extent you are able to connect both a stereo input as well as a USB-C at the SAME TIME. And remember, there are Stereo to Bluetooth, Optical, and other adapters [???] you could use with this, try em all!! I highly recommend the very affordable MicLock, if for no other reason, it is so much easier than disassembling your device and removing the factory mic! Thank you for the great tech and gadgetry MicLock peeps!!

A fool and his money are soon parted.
Smartphone microphones are 'individually addressable' for lack of better words. Even though additional nonfunctional microphone hardware has been added and serves as the primary device, other microphones are still possible to use. i.e. the internal mic you are worried about. Android and IOS for instance do not provide user facing audio switching such that this product can be confirmed to be worthless by the average user, but with root, as an attacker would likely need to bypass the OS level microphone toggle or per-app permissions, this device is completely worthless. It's also likely feasible to switch which input device you are recording from given broad 'microphone permissions' on a per-app basis. This for instance is how speakerphone in the android dialer works. (Often by switching to a different mic for better sound quality in that mode) For the users who don't understand the above, consider this: Buy this device, plug it into a laptop, set the default input device to any other device, and record away with absolutely no issue or limitation whatsoever. The same situation exists on android or ios without a user facing indication that it is such. The takeaway: Do not be lured by the false sense of security this product provides, or the patently false and predatory marketing. In limited scenarios where you need nonfunctional dummy mic hardware, this may be useful, but this product is absolutely nonfunctional to prevent microphone access.
