Infinity Reference 6532IX 6-1/2" 2-Way Car Speakers - Pair

Summary: if you want to upgrade the stock speakers without changing the head unit or adding a line out converter, active/passive crossover, DSP, or amplifier THESE ARE PERFECT (depending on price). Replacing OEM speakers with these will give you better sound range, quality, and pressure. I can decrease the volume level setting 20% compared to the OEM speakers and it feels like the same sound level with better articulation. These speakers will not turn a car into a Hi-Fi automobile but they are an efficient way to spend under $100 and get better sound quality without spending $1000. I used these speakers to replace the OEM speakers in a 2011 Subaru Legacy non-Harmon Kardon audio package. There is a direct fit upgrade door package which is a Subaru part number consisting of Kicker made speakers and costs about $200. The REF-6532IX probably sounds equivalent to the Kicker made Subaru upgrade. This speaker is very easy to mount. The stamped steel frame is compact and the motor structure is easily ten times better than most OEM base level speakers. I was able to cut the guts from the OEM speaker and use it as a speaker mounting ring instead of the 5mm thick included adapters. I replaced the foam on the back of the spacer, screwed the speaker into the spacer, added a ring of foam to the outside edge of the speaker face, and it bolted in the original location. The depth of the mounted speaker matched the OEM speaker but didn't really matter as the window tracks for the rear doors weren't close to the speaker mount cutout in the door. The 0db +3db button is only important if you use other Infinity speakers. Set them all at 0db or +3db. I originally set the 6532IX set to 0db as rear speakers weeks before replacing the front door speakers with the Kappa 62IX speakers. The fronts sounded better set to +3db but then the rears sounded off at 0db. After setting the rears to +3db, the speakers were better voice matched. I recognize setting the door speakers to +3db on the tweeter would exacerbate the harsh brightness, but setting them to 0db did not match the dash REF-3032cfx speakers. I wouldn't recommend using these as rears and then using the kappas in the front. As a speaker upgrade using these in four corners will be a big improvement over OEM speakers. The Kappa 62IX speakers will require a little more work for fitment because the kappa line uses a resin basket instead of stamped steel. The 62IX will sound a little better than the REF-6532IX under the same head unit power. Vocal clarity, bass definition, and overall sound level is improved over OEM. How could it not when going from a cheap full range woofer with a whizzer cone? Well the time alignment of having a tweeter and woofer in a coaxial set up with a head unit that changes equalization relative to output level left me feeling the effort of sound improvement was ok. They sound adequate and not impressive. I added sound deadening and insulation to all four doors while replacing the speakers. I spent close to $100 on sound deadening material and mass loaded vinyl to quiet the interior. I added the Infinity REF-3032cfx in place of the missing dash tweeters months before doing the rear door speakers. Each set of speakers is really bright in sound presentation. The bass is present but not impressive. The head unit offers an SRS setting which seems to boost the bass and the treble, but bass punch is uncontrolled and bloated at higher levels. The head unit is a weak link in the audio chain at this point. I installed the dash speakers first and probably could have stopped there. The sound improvement after changing the rear door speakers and deadening was encouraging. Replacing the front door speakers and sound deadening didn't feel satisfactory compared to the effort. I'm still messing with EQ settings and feel like something is either lacking or over emphasized. If I were to have this knowledge at the start I would have decided to use the 6532IX speaker in each door or consider spending at least twice as much and use the 62IX in each door. I think for the extra cost and saving my time, I'd go with two sets of the REF-6532IX. It would be madness to expand the scope of the project beyond the comparative Subaru/Kicker upgrade and change out the head unit or add an amplifier to the signal path in a ten year old car.

I had quite an adventure with these speakers and learned a lot. I had to rewire my front speakers because the old wire corroded and left my factory speakers only working sometimes. So I bought some 16 awg wire before installing these speakers. I also bought a new head unit, so I connected the 16 awg wire directly go the head unit. I thought these speakers came with the little plugs you need to plug the wires onto it, but they didn’t. So I connected the wires straight to it but it wasn’t a secure connection I found out later. The speakers punched. Turn it over halfway volume and you can feel the speakers punching at you with the base with clear crisp audio. I remember a long time ago I went into I think micro center, and they had car speakers all set up and you could test all of them. Infinity speakers were by far the best with clarity but weren’t as bass heavy as others, but that was fine because the others were too bass heavy and you get distorted music at high volumes which sounds awful compared to clear crisp audio at high volumes with infinity. So, the speakers ended up punching too much and knocked my connection loose. So I had bought a wire harness that connects to my old factory wire via a plug and has the two connections needed to plug into the speakers on the other end. I spliced the wires and connected them to the 16 awg wire I set up, then plugged the other end into the speakers and thought I was good. I wasn’t. Just from that new wire I used, I lost half the sound quality of the speakers. The speakers didn’t sound much of an upgrade from my stock paper speakers. I lost almost all the bass, there was hardly any at high volume, I was sad. I went back and took those wires off, but cut the ends off that connect to the speakers, and use the metal part to clamp my 16 awg wires directly to the speakers like how I had it when I first set it up, but this time they are clamped on and secure and won’t come off from the heavy bass. Now my speakers are back to that amazing sound with bass that is loud and punches and crystal clear audio. I’m in love with these speakers. So lesson learned with these speakers. You are probably going to get bad sound using factory speaker wire or using a harness and it does not do these speakers justice at all. Best thing you can do is get an amp to power these speakers to get amazing sound, also use an equalizer. I’m an audiophile and equalize everything to get the perfect sound. My head unit has an app that lets me equalize the sound. If you do not want to use an amp I recommend doing what I did and use new wire and don’t use a harness and you will get incredible sound and punch from these things. It can be a challenge wiring it throughout your car but it is worth it. I bought infinity speakers for the back of my car so now I plan on doing the same thing and using 16 awg wire run to the back and connecting directly to the speakers.

I purchased these speakers for the rear doors on my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. The factory stereo and amplifier is still in use and I just wanted a replacement. The Infinity Reference was spot on! The included brackets and fasteners made a perfect fit possible. No drilling no major engineering required. The composite construction is very high quality and provides crisp clear sound from the back. The factory panel fits perfectly over the speaker after installation, but it comes with a nice cover. If you’re looking to replace and upgrade, this is what you want! Great speakers for the money! If you need the connectors you’ll need to order those separately. Excellent!

The speakers themselves are quite good. Punchy midrange and completely eliminate the muddy stock speaker sound for the rear doors in my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I appreciate the direct fit adaptor plate included with these for the idea that you don't have to drill into the door panel but they don't sit totally flush creating a slight buzz once everything is put back together. There is not enough included weather stripping (foam tape) to do both the back side of the speaker and between the adaptor plate and door panel. Not like its an expensive mod but would have been nice if they included a little more. I had some laying around the garage and it worked fine. So just be aware before you get everything all buttoned back up. Put extra weather stripping between the adaptor and door panel so you don't get vibration buzzing. If you need to buy some extra I think its 1/4" wide by about 1/4" tall foam tape. If you went a little thicker it would probably be fine. Also the included long screws are to connect the adaptor to your door panel have a very small head on them. Its very easy to drive them to far into the plastic adaptor plate. I replaced them with a similar size but a larger head. Was a little concerned the stock screws would come loose over time. So cheap mods may be needed depending on your vehicle. Speaker are totally worth the price though. Combined with some Infinity Reference 6x9's in my front doors, the whole system sounds so much better using the stock head unit and amp.

This is a great speaker. It produces clean and life like sound. I’m a bit of a snoot or snob when it comes to sound. I hate when things don’t sound good. On a side note. There is no speaker made than make a crappy Kps signal from a satellite sound good. Like all other reviews for in door car speakers. If you ARE NOT or CAN NOT do an amplifier I would suggest doing sound proofing in your car. I added a couple pics of some of what I did. I used an 80mm killmat and a 345mm noico foam on top of that. This will make a significant difference in what you will hear. It is a cheaper easier option than buy and installing an Amp in your car. It is still work. But if your taking your door panel off to install a speaker do your self a favor and sound proof.

I bought these to replace the toy stock speakers in my 2005 Honda CR-V. Review after review (both here and at Crutchfield) mentioned they would not fit my application but I wanted reference in my ride. I took the old ones out and cut the cones and viola, perfect spacers and fit like a glove. Windows roll down fine in front and rear. I’m a musician and like clarity and precision in my soundstage and these are perfect. I listen to nearly all music except hip hop. My head unit is an Alpine single din with a Kenwood KAC1804 amp in my glove compartment to power these. I have a 10” reference shallow subwoofer in a sealed box powered by an Infinity Primus mono amp and they all compliment one another well. If you’re on the fence about these because you think they won’t fit, do a little research. They do come with grills and speaker adapters (both of which I tossed).

The goal was to replace factory speakers without installing a new amp. I installed a new head unit and wasn't getting the sound I wanted with the factory speakers and the 17w factory Amp. Installed these and overall my sound was better but the 17w was not enough to get the full sound. I tried bypassing the Amp and using the head units 22w rms but it still wasn't enough. I went with a small Clarion 50w rms Amp and the sound is night and day. They have clear highs and good punch. They would have been an upgrade without the Amp but if you want the full capabilites of the speakers you will want to power them with something more than the head unit.

listen people, you want to separate your frequency ranges. if your vehicle doesn't come along with tweeters, get yourself some 2-way speakers. no, you do not need 3-way. yes, that would be over kill. but it is good to get the true treble up off the main cone. and the higher the frequency the more directional/the less it spreads out. the tweeter on these speakers is at an angle so that you can point it towards the listeners head. how good is that?! installation typically isn't straight forward. very few things are plug and play. this product knows that. it comes with plastic brackets with lots of holes. the box also has perforated circles so that you can take those circles off the box and use then as a template in case you need to modify the door panel. if you are a person the likes to do anything yourself, I would recommend you get a drill and some good drill bits. these speakers do not come with a drill, and you may need to drill some news holes. the need to modify is not this product's fault. you can be mad at the car industry to for not standardizing anything that is not government regulated. you don't need to spend a fortune on amazing speakers. stock speakers are typically paper, and have have all frequencies pushed through them. some plastic cones, tweeters, and a single small cheap sub will transform the sound in your car so that you can hear all the sound the way it was recorded in the studio.

I have these speakers teamed up with Infinity Reference RE -6530cx component speakers, 6 line-in, out converter, 2300 watts MAX pioneer Amplifier, 1300 watts MAX pioneer slimline subwoofer... Hooked up to the factory stereo in my car, And the sound is so good that I'm hearing beats + sounds that I didn't even know we're there with the standard factory stereo system... I feel the subwoofer thump in my back as I drive listening to some rap or any type of music that has a heavy bass... The mirror vibrates to the beat... So all in all the hole SETUP is well worth the money, cause you'll get great quality speakers, at an affordable price that won't break the bank... And the sound quality is I think just as good as the more expensive components you can buy... Within roughly the same price bracket... EG Clarion, Pioneer, Alpine, Hertz, So if you're just after getting better sound, so you can hear all the heavy beats, high pitch tweets, mid-range notes, you can't go past this setup, for value, price, sound quality... Do yourself a favor and purchase these items...

It sounds way better than the factory fitted speakers in my Ford Fusion.
