From acclaimed writer-director Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas, Wings of Desire), PERFECT DAYS takes the writer-director to Tokyo to tell a story celebrating the hidden joys of Japanese culture. Winner of the Best Actor award at Cannes 2023, Koji Yakusho (Babel, 13 Assassins) stars as Hirayama, a contemplative middle-aged man who lives a life of modesty and serenity, spending his days balancing his job as a dutiful caretaker of Tokyo’s numerous public toilets with his passion for music, literature and photography. As we join him on his structured daily routine, a series of unexpected encounters gradually begin to reveal a hidden past that lies behind his otherwise content and harmonious life. Combining a refreshingly unstereotypical depiction of the Japanese capital with a soundtrack comprised of iconic hits from the 60s and 80s, this is a subtle, shimmering and ultimately life-affirming reflection on finding beauty in the everyday world around us. Japan’s entry for Best International Film at the 2024 Academy Awards. EXTRAS: Q&A with Director Wim Wenders, "Somebody Comes into the Light" short film, Review: A beautiful fim full of meaning .Wonderful acting. A triumph of cinema. - ONE of the very best films I have ever seen. A perfect film of Perfect days. Wim Wenders has gotten better and better. This film has almost no dialogue and is beautifully acted. It is rich in meaning through it silence. Everything in the story is clear . I love this fim and will watch it many times. Review: My son was wrong. I loved this movie. - Theres a TV series from Japan with two seasons on stream. Its called Midnight Restaurant and its apparently about nothing. If you love that series ,trust me, this movie is for you too. If you hate that series because you dont see a single thing happening in those stories, then avoid this movie. I was prepared to hate it. My son recommended it to me because he wanted me to experience one of the worst movies he ever watched in his life. My son actually loves cinema , and does not even care for Hollywood sterile popcorn stuff , so i trusted his judjement , and i was really expecting a really bad pretencious art-house film. I was wrong. Ten minutes into it, i paused my 1080p copy , went here to desertcart and ordered this 4K bluray. I was loving this film like crazy. In fact it is now rhe best movie i watched in 2025 so far. Its one of those that either it connects with you or not. Above all its not a pretentious art house movie installation as i feared it would be. And in fact it has a lot more plot than it seems at first glance. It just isnt one of those stories that go from A to B. And the best stuff is hidden in plain sight like easter eggs that bring a lot of humanity and heart to the whole thing. The main character is fantastic. Once again some people will claim its an empty one because apparently he does nothing in the entire film besides cleaning up bathrooms. I loved it because it reminded me of the same vibe of the restaurant owner in Midnight Restaurant. Only after the credits you get a glimpse of what the "empty" story is about when you read the definition of a word that is uniquely japanese. Then if you already loved the film , the movie meaning opens up in full bloom and you want to go back to experience it. Another thing that makes the general pop corn audiences hste the movie is because its shot in 4:3 instead of the modern 16:9 widescreen. But in fact widescreen would be pointless to this story and 4:3 helps making the whole atmosphere more real. So its not for eveyone. But its the best Venders movie since Paris Texas. If you enjoy a good intimate story now and then, Perfect Days is the best antidote to the sterility of Marvel movies. I dont know if its an art house movie or not because its really so simple, so i would say give it a chance. The 4K copy is amazing and the shots look beautiful. Also the soundtrack gives it a lot of life. This may be a film by a german director , but its 100% japanese in style and feeling. If you are not affraid of the typical japanese contempletive style, you will probably enjoy this purely Zen movie too.

This film is definitely 'one not to miss'.
This film I have now watched six or seven times over a few months and will continue to return to it in the future. It is a masterpiece, and has so many messages for us, the watchers, about aspects of life that merit nurturing, about slowing down and noticing the detail of life around us, about simplicity and integrity. I am also working my way slowly through the books mentioned as them being named and noted as part of the story, suggested they were well-worth reading. That has also been a revelation. I loved the film's slow and thoughtful pace and as an aside to the story portrayed, it is a very relaxing film to watch. Lastly, having also watched video of Kōji Yakusho and Wim Wenders being interviewed, it brought some detail to light as to how the film came to be made, and interesting facts about that.

One of the best films I've seen...
I didn't know what to expect from this film. Someone mentioned it a few months ago as 'art house' and I kept meaning to watch it and I'm glad I did. It's far away from the action movies and special effects and romcoms I often watch. From the first few minutes there was something in this film that deeply resonated with me - something I didn't realise other people do and something people have made fun of me for. It felt like the film was recognising part of me I keep to myself these days. If I had to say what it was about, it's the metronome of our day to day lives and how, if we pay attention to the simple things our souls can be basically happy in an increasingly fast and troubled world. And about how other people complicate things for us by bringing those pesky feelings. I'll watch this again and again.

Weird, good? Solemn, Nervous Wonder...
Technically brilliant made film, almost like being a tourist & a spy at the same time with the enjoyment of a good holiday in one sense, & the dangers of being suspected of a heinous or severe punishable crime... As an English man in my forties I don't feel I have the right to know if any other part of the world, least of Japan & toyko, but I found this to be top of the range film making & reality as we don't often see it, as honest & likeable, as if life in Lindon, Or Paris, Or Berlin, played out in front of us by Japanese talent & their approach to hard lives & harder work we often don't wish to do ... Very inspiring made film, especially for film makers, & actor/actresses, this is also superior, sublimnal, intelligent, insightful and with darker feel that could so easily be of a bad man, or serial killer & the opposite best not to plot spoil , also a theory about how crime began on the streets like the Yakuza, or seen through the life of a good hard-working man! Certainly if I was rude to you? They'd kill me kind of fear pending on circumstances ... Also it could be contrasted with a more 'simple', kind of existence resulting in modrrn.psychopathy & kill spree killers too, who lose it where the good ones do not ... All in all very inspiring multi level type film making & characterizing, poetic & wondrous from a good observation & psychopathic & murderous from another , this works in reality for all...
