I'm a physical therapist by trade. I remember learning about diagnosis and treatment of lumbar spine using McKenzie Method, otherwise known as MDT in the therapy world. This pillow is intended to supplement that philosophy, and improve sitting posture and support. This lumbar pillow is nice because you can position it right over the segment of your low back that needs the support the most. It does a nice job of supporting the lordotic curve of the lumbar spine when sitting for long periods of time. The theory is, if you slouch or sit with bad posture, you lose the lordotic curve and your spine will eventually start to ache. This pillow can help reduce back pain associated with prolonged sitting, and it kinda forces you to sit more upright, i.e. prevents slouching. I use this in my cheap old car which has no built in lumbar support, and it does a wonderful job. Just a bit of warning to anyone thinking about buying it. It takes some getting used to. It forces you to sit differently than you might be accustomed to. And just like I tell my patients, you may not be able to tolerate sitting with a lumbar pillow like this all day. It can become fatiguing with prolonged sitting. You may need to remove it from your chair periodically and take a break from using it. I got the standard density and it feels like just the right amount of firmness and support. I do not think I would like the firm density, in terms of overall comfort.

I have only had this cushion for one day, but the relief that it has given me for my sciatica is immediate and noticeable. I like the firmness and the size, I think that it was definitely worth the money for what it is and I was able to get it quickly when I really needed it which I appreciate. My only complaint is that I actually wish the strap was fully removable, because I find that it gets in the way sometimes, and if I could unclip it when I don't need it that would be great. Update: I actually took one more star off, because over time this pillow became more of a hassle than anything. At some point it stopped helping with my back pain and actually started to make it worse again. The strap is also virtually useless, I tried strapping it to my desk chair as suggested, and it was constantly shifting, and moving up and down, and the strap is too elastic and not nearly substantial enough to keep the pillow where you need it to be. I think you would have much better luck buying something with a more organic design that actually fits the shape of your back. It was not worth saving the money to buy this product.

Wish I'd gotten this a lot sooner. After just a few hours of use my back feels much less painful Aaand I am able to stand straighter. If you're having back pain get this lumbar support. It will help ease back pain.

I have been using this product since 1990, and it has been a lifesaver for me. I tried many other lumbar supports and none worked nearly as well as this one. However, all were highly regarded by other back sufferers. What this shows is that each individual's back pain is highly idiosyncratic, and if you are a back sufferer, you need to shop around and find the aid that is best for you. It appears from the reviews that the McKenzie lumbar roll has been good for a large number of people, so if I were new to this game and seeking relief for the first time, I would certainly give it a try. My next comment is that the strap has not worked for me. I took it off with the first roll and have never looked back. Not using the strap means that my roll is constantly being inserted (manually, each time I sit down) at different orientations. This is probably why I have not experienced the "flattening" that several reviewers complain about. My last point is that the firmness of a lumbar support is one of the most personalized features that back sufferers should be seeking -- a firmness that pleases one person will be too hard or soft for others. That being so, you need to experiment. I have found the standard McKenzie roll to be exactly right for me, after I have used it for a couple of weeks. It DOES soften up a bit, but for me that is perfect. If you find the standard firmness too soft after some use, then try the firmer one. To summarize, I literally cannot live without this product. It goes with me everywhere. I have lost many over the years -- I am logging in now to order two more, having forgotten one recently on an airplane. however, I always have spares, at work and at home, and am replenishing my spare supply right now. If you are a back sufferer like me (I once spent six months laid up in bed with back pain), then try this product.

Perfect lumbar roll it's really helps with my back problems. I have a job that i have to sit down all day and placing this behind my back while sitting gives me a lot of relief from pain. I even sometimes use it on the couch
