Perma Blue Liquid Air Gun Shotgun Blueing 90ml [13125] Blue Rifle

Works good

I used this Perma Blue paste to coat a vintage York Barbell. I used hardly any of the tube to cover about 4 feet of 1-1/16" bar with 4 or 5 coats. Key points to remember, first, get the base metal clean and scuffed uniformly! Any dark spots, discolorations, or deep sand scratches will stand out. Secondly, HEAT THE METAL! It's actually better if your surface is NOT hot, just warmed up slightly (let's say 110-120 degrees, warm to the touch). You could even leave your part in the sun for a few minutes to warm up. Get it too hot and the paste will dry quickly, be uneven, and come off in chunks (rather than allow you to spread it easily over the surface). Similar to you trying wax your car on 110 degree day in the direct sun. No good! FYI, I used acetone to clean the barbell before applying the first coat (and in between coats). First coat goes on a little uneven and blotchy. I let it setup for a minute or so, then rinsed the part off with water and a clean towel. You'll want to lightly scuff the part with a scotchbrite pad between coats (maroon worked good for me), after rinsing the previous coat off. I used a propane torch to heat my base metal back up to slightly warm (move quickly!!), then wiped it off with acetone/clean rag seconds before applying the next coat. Open flame may not be the best idea, but it worked flawless for my situation....just don't light your acetone rag on fire! Heat gun would be better for coating an actual firearm. Repeat the above process until you're happy with the color. The finished product will be evenly coated. You need to rinse it (obviously don't scuff it after the final coat!). End result is nice and smooth, not sticky, and not thick. Color is brown/bronze with this product when applied over bare (scuffed) steel.

I never guessed bluing metal would be so easy. I spent the $10. I rubbed it on what had become bare metal and it instantly darkened. I didn’t realize an application would be only 30 to 60 seconds. You can wipe it off and repeat until you get as dark a color as you want. Then wipe on a drop of oil and you may have erased decades of what looked like wear but was only the loss of a nano layer of oxidation

I have a new-model Crosman 760 that picked up a fair bit of corrosion on its barrel and air cylinder due to improper climate control (awful ventilation design resulting in moisture accumulation) where I had been living at the time. I applied a quick coat of weather-resistant paint to the affected areas to slow corrosion until I could deal with the problem properly. I know, it's a $35 air rifle and buying a new one would have been easier, but I enjoy tinkering with this sort of thing. Fast forward a few months, I removed the paint with steel wool and a Dremel and stripped off all corrosion and existing bluing in the affected areas. I followed the instructions on the tube more-or-less to the letter, and applied about four coats of the bluing paste. The finish does not perfectly match the original from all viewing angles, but is surprisingly close in appearance for the most part. Application was easy and the results were excellent! As the bluing paste contains selenious acid, it is highly toxic and must not be ingested, but the concentration is low enough that vapors are not a concern, and the paste may be applied indoors without a problem. However, I recommend wearing eye protection and rubber gloves while working with the product, as a precautionary measure. This product will not blue stainless steel, but will not harm it either.

Fast bluing, easily controlled paste bluing for ferrous metals, like iron and steel. Easily controlled and stop the chemical process. Wipe it off and oil it to stop. Rub on more to make it darker.

This stuff worked surprisingly well, and blended nicely. I was actually surprised. Follow directions and it’s good

I used this to touch up a few parts on an SKS I built from spares (yes, I actually built an SKS. Yes, I was very bored.). While it seems to make a nice, dark blue it's easily rubbed off and will mostly come off with water. I f put about three coats on and then give it a nice wipe with an oily rag. Seems to work ok and gets rid of the weird smell. Oh yeah, this stuff smells kinda weird. Don't know what the deal is there. Most likely the reaction of the chemical with the steel. Anyway, if you need touch up on a cheapo gun then go ahead. If it's a nice piece you might be better off using another kit or just leaving as is. I'm happy with the results when used on my $65 home made FrankenSKS.

Only complaint if I had to come up with one is that the package was leaking when I got it but other then that it work’s really well.
