Shop Fox 24" Aluminum Ruler with Handle

This is a great ruler for doing work on a whiteboard. If you put four rubber door bumpers like for cabinet doors on the corners, you can draw really nice straight lines on a whiteboard using this.

This is a simple, well‑made tool that has held up for over a decade. If you want a 24‑inch straightedge with a comfortable handle and raised edges that improve usability, this one has proven itself. I’ve owned it for no less than thirteen years, and it has earned its place among the tools that simply do their job without ever calling attention to themselves. That’s the highest praise I can give a shop tool. The built-in level vials aren't precision instruments, but the straightedge and handle are what make this tool worth owning.

Lightweight, easy to use, and durable (at least, so far). Measurements are crisp and easy to read. My only complaint: Although the handle is handy to use, it can make the ruler awkward to pack in tight cases. Also, the ruler is made in China, if that matters to you.

This ruler very neatly filled a void in my workshop. It is just the right length for so many jobs that I have :-) As I use it mostly for measuring and cutting leather and wood I need whatever comes in contact with the leather and wood to be perfectly smooth. Such was not the case with my Shop Fox 24" aluminum ruler with handle. There are 4 screws on the bottom of the ruler that hold the handle in place. 3 of the 4 screws were not set below the surface of the ruler as they should have been. 2 of the screw heads had burrs raised from sloppy tightening of the screws at the factory. Fortunately I had an 82 degree countersink. I removed the screws with a Phillips #2 screwdriver and removed the burrs on the heads with 400 grit emery cloth. The screw holes were reamed out with the countersink by simply twirling the countersink in my fingers. The aluminum is soft, and I did not need to remove very much metal to countersink the screws completely. I reattached the handle, and it works perfectly now - no scratches on my leather or wood :-) Better quality control at the factory could have eliminated this work for me, but for the price, I'm not complaining ;-)

Solidly made, not flimsy at all. Bubble levels on the handle are nice for hanging items on the wall.

Having the handle took so much strain off of my hands while using it to cut picture mats. With the built in two direction level, it came in handy to hang those pictures. Worth every penny!

I purchased this item to use as a straightedge for cutting photos and foamboard. The product is lightweight, didn't try the level option since I really didn't need that and other reviews said it was inaccurate. I didn't realize that steel blades could cut the aluminum so easily. I would recommend buying a steel ruler instead.

Am always needing a straight edge for small jobs and a measuring tape or ruler. Now I have both! Long enough to not get hidden in my tool kit, but small enough to handle easily and see plainly. Great product!
