I heard the Dock in a store and really liked it. It is pretty much a one trick pony, but that trick is just what I wanted for the Kitchen/breakfast nook. Of course the music is the main attraction and it is first class for the size of the box. I have my music shared from my Mac to the iPad and the WiFi sounds great. Any kluggyness is the fault of the limited iPad operations but I live with that. Listening to streaming radio is easy with the apps. For my iPhone all is good. My 30 Gig hard drive iPod isn't recognized. My 5th generation Nano (the last one before touch controls) works fine. The 30Gig will work from a line out for the headpiece, but it is a disappointment and not in the literature that I saw. The Nano has a radio that requires the headphone wire, but you can't plug in the nano to the Sony and use the headphone out as it is inaccessible. I didn't downgrade the dock for not playing the iPod, but a warning would have been nice. I've only had it 10 days, and I'm very happy with the purchase. Oh, yes it is attractive and isn't noticeable as are so many alternatives. I'm not very interested in the newer version with streaming abilities and the money off for the same exact speakers and configuration fit my bill. It was $80 off at the Sony Store and also here at Amazon through J&R.

Very good acoustics for size
These stereo Sony speakers are probably the best in class (speakers under $300) for a small room. My mother had an earlier model, which had a surprisingly strong base (and base boost not found on this model). It is amazingly powerful for bass, even without the option for bass boost. It also has 120-240 volts adaptor, so it's great if you move to another country. The remote allows you to select songs on your iPod. You can attach an external MP3 player via the 1.5mm earphone plug but I don't think the sony remote will work for it. The downsides are: There's no clock (you ca download the iPod clock app) or radio. No equalizer, unless you use the one on your iPod or mp3 player. Overall, it is a dedicated set of quality premium speakers for a small room.

Works great until the warranty expires
I was so excited when I got this thing. Sounded GREAT for the 3 months of the Amazon return policy. As if it had an internal clock, the dang thing just stopped working right after the return policy expired. And guess what? The Sony warranty on this unit only applied in CANADA. Fabulous. Apparently it's a common problem --- everything seems to be in order, and without warning the unit will not power on. No water damage, no dropping or moving the unit, no power surges... just. stops. working. EXTREMELY disappointed in this product.

Great Sound-Check Compatibility
I first saw the Sony RDPX500 iP Dock at a big box store and thought it sounded great. It vibrated a lot but the sound was as good, if not better than the Bose Sound Dock II. This Sony unit puts out some serious base sounds. My issue with this sound system is that is not backward compatible with certain iPods. I ordered this Sony unit from Amazon and did not see any compatibility tables on the website, nor did I give it much thought to be honest. It said "iPod" so I took the statement at its word. Amazon was fast and efficient as usual and I received the item 3 days after ordering using free ground shipping. When my iPod did not work I went back to the big box store and tried my iPod on the exact Sony display model. It didn't work at the store either. My iPod did however work on EVERY other docking station in the store. Not an iPod problem. I went home and called Sony. Their customer support said there are some issues with certain generations of the iPod and those generations will not work with this Sony dock. I have a 5th generataion according to the serial number on the back of my iPod. The Sony customer service rep looked it up the generation status for me. Sony said you should contact them at esupport.sony.com to check compatibility. Better to be safe and check before you buy. I never saw mention of a compatibility chart anywhere before buying but the Sony customer service rep was knowledgable about it and knew exactly what I was talking about when I told her I had an older iPod and it did not work on this new Sony dock model. Amazon was great and arranged for the return and credit in minutes. Hope this helps.

Pretty good for Iphone 4S
It works pretty well, sound is pretty good, a little boomy but that my just be personal taste. It has deep bass and relativity flat mid and highs. I have a little issue with the contact. The phone will sometimes not be seated correctly and will show the message that the device is not compatible with charging. A little push on the top to seat it and it works fine. With the above issue I have another issue, since its not wireless I have to use the buttons and screen to change play lists on Spotify or Pandora, when I mess with the phone it will occasionally loose contact and have to be re-seated. The contact issue may be due to my case but Its not doing it every time so its not worth changing cases. Remote is basic, allows vol up/own and forward /reverse skip, has a power and play/pause button.

Worth Every Penny!
I just received my Sony and I love it! the sound quality is great and it has so much bass! It is not too loud, but loud enough for me to enjoy it. My Iphone fits perfectly even with a crystal case. I also love the remote. I can move around through my different playlists, artists, and songs. I was considering a Bose, but the reviews were right. I saved a over $200 and this is great! Everything sounds perfect-From Nelly to Maroon 5 to Amy Winehouse! If anything sounds better than this, I don't need it.
