The PMP Exam: How to Pass on Your First Try, Sixth Edition

After the exam - I did pass on the first try and this book was my main source for study. I passed with flying colors and this book was the best study material I used. I tried a couple web based trainings out and looked into other books but I tend to be fairly driven and find most material slow for my taste. This book allowed me to go at my own pace and the video overviews of each section filled in any gaps. I would highly recommend this book for anyone taking the exam. Quality concerns - The first copy I got is missing the key needed to access the online portion. The second copy sent as a replacement copy was also missing a key. I ended up reaching out the company that made the book and they took care of me. They also sent me a third replacement copy directly that is of much higher quality leaving me to believe the versions from Amazon may have been forgeries. a Actual material – The actual material of the book has been fantastic. I have tried a couple other books and web-based trainings and so far, I have found my self-study with this book to be the best. There is no fluff and it also isn’t super dry. I would highly recommend to anyone taking the PMP exam to use this book as party of their study plan. Minor complaints – for the price, I would have liked for the book to be printed on thicker paper. This is a minor thing really but you can see a little bit of ghosting from the next page. Color for the diagrams would have been nice as well but again very minor in this case and the book is augmented with little videos that help as well.

I found this book to be extremely helpful while studying for the PMP exam. The course where I earned my PDUs was not very helpful in explaining the concepts of the process framework. I almost exclusively used this book for studying and I went from a very basic understanding of the PMBOK to passing the PMP exam with above targets in every process group within two months. I felt that this book does a great job of laying out the concepts in a way that made it easy to comprehend. I went through this book and then repeatedly took the exam at the end of the book as well as the free exam prep that was available through Velociteach. Videos are included but I didn't watch any of them; I just read the book and made a lot of flashcards. The two weeks prior to the exam I used free PMP practice tests you can find online and studied the flash cards I made from this book. The book is generic and while studying I would just search online for more in depth explanations as needed based on practice exam performance. Overall a great resource, highly recommend.

I studied for the PMP for around 4 months. I did not study day in day out, but relied 100% on this book to learn the material. I read the full book front to back and did the practice questions after each chapter. After completing the book, I reviewed the content and my notes then took the 200 question practice exam. I ended up scoring around a 52% and the book estimates you will pass with an 80%. Of course, I knew I wasn't ready, so I spent 1 week using the free trial practice test online, and 1 week before the exam did more practice questions. I think reading the book once and reviewing it, then doing hundreds of practice questions (from free apps to the Velocitech site) will help prepare you for the exam. I also purchased the PMP Velocitech cheat sheet which helped a lot in memorizing critical formulas and the high-level concepts. The only bad feedback I have on the PMP exam is it had nearly 99% questions describing a scenario and requesting you to choose what the project manager would do and 1% formulas. I felt like the book had a lot more variability in the questions and I actually enjoyed the questions in the book much more than the actual PMP as it was so redundant. I think the book questions helped me learn the concepts, and weren't as boring as the actual exam.

I did not pass on the first try. But it was mainly my fault because I didn't spend enough time on integration and scope management areas nor did I spend enough time understanding relationships between knowledge areas. The practice test in the book is not challenging enough. If you want to pass I would recommend that you go to the Velociteach Insite website and purchase some practice exams. I used the A & B set and it helped me pass on the second time around. I would also recommend the reference guide. If you have the extra money the audio MP3s are nice to have when you are driving around or at the gym. The audio MP3s are informative, and can be a little corny at times, but I get a kick out of the Guys Screaming "OPA". The flash cards are cheap, but I wouldn't recommend them because they dont ask any questions or remind you of relationships between knowledge areas, you are much better off with the reference guide. I like Crowe's writing style, it is simple and he cuts out alot of the generic ITTO, which keeps the book from being too monotonous. I would recommend buying the book.

This book did exactly what it was designed to do and I would recommend it to anyone trying to pass the PMP. I've always been that one annoying person that studies a lot and does very well on tests, so I went through this entire book as well as countless other study materials. During my studying, I was disappointed by how much information this book left out - I felt like I was learning so much more on other sites! I wanted to wait until after my test to review the book, but I was determined to give it a 1 star. However, during my test, I quickly realized this book was all I really needed to study - it really does teach to the test. Having said that, it absolutely helps to look at other resources when you're studying. Also, I did spend HOURS going over this book. I knew it inside and out. I took 71 pages of notes... So don't think you can just skim through it and pass the PMP, you really have to commit everything to memory - you can't just wing it.

My company paid for a one week "PMP boot camp" class with KnowledgeSource which was $2k and provided two books, the blue "PMP Exam Prep Questions" book and the white Crosswinds book. This book from Andy Crowe was WAY more helpful and easy to follow than the boot camp and two other books combined. While I used the other books for test questions, after taking the exam I can confidently say that this book is the reason I passed (And was in the top 15th percentile I might add :) ). This book was easy to read and follow, and the questions were a bit harder than what I found on the exam which was great - you might say I was over-prepared. I wish every exam I took had a book as comprehensive and easy to learn from as this. It reads like someone talking to you like a person, not just boring text. Also - the answer explanations actually tell you why the answer was right and why the others were wrong. All the other books I saw just re-stated the answer and would say "all the other choices are distracters". Not helpful. This one though, 5 stars! Could not recommend enough.

I tried taking the PMP just by reviewing the PMBOK and taking an online course through UDEMY. The course was good, but the test was more difficult than I thought it would be and I failed the first time. Got this book, went through it methodically, and rescheduled the test. I scored the highest in all categories except 1 and in that category I was 2nd highest. I didn't just pass I owned the PMP exam, and that was a GREAT feeling. This book was the best investment I could make. If you get this book, and do the work, you should pass. But again you need to put in the work. This is not a book to "cheat your way" to the PMP. It's a great framework for focusing your studies on the material in the proper way that the exam is looking for. I spent approximately 2 hours a night for 4 months with this book before I retook the exam earned my PMP. Highly recommend this resource!

This book did as promised—helped me pass on my first try! You really will do yourself a service by reading this book page to page and taking the quizzes as a way to expose yourself to important concepts and then understand where you need to increase your studying. This book was easy to read and follow. Andy did a great job to prepare me for the unexpected and how to answer tricky questions. Highly recommend this book—although may want to wait until an updated version is released because PMI is changing the exam starting 2020. (Time required—highly suggest AT LEAST 2 months prior to scheduled exam to begin reading and studying. Would have liked 3 months, but that’s juggling full time job, 3 kids and a household).

A PMP prep book is a must have when you prepare for PMP exam. This one is very easy to read with a lot of insights ! There are questions at the end of each process area. The 200 question mock test at the end of the book, was harder than the actual exam to me. That helped a lot to learn. I read the PMBOK in 2 weeks and Crowe’s book in a week and passed my PMP exam on 1 st attempt within 5 weeks of preparation. I would say that Crowe’s book is what helped me the most!
