They work great for my 55gal tank that uses a fluval U4 water filter. Here they are side by side. The sponge filter is supposed to be longer then the fluval filter I have here because of the way it fits in the fluval U4 water filter.

You get ten @ filter foam at size 7.72 x 2.36 x 0.51 inches each. Small so you need to check out what you need. I like the porosity poly sponge like consistency , so i got them and superglued them together (see pic) to make them fit my overflow box size of 7.7" x 4.7" . A great prefilter foam to get out the bigger particles for efficient filtering with the dense foam media and carbon/chem media on the bottom . Great value and easy to rinse out for reuse.

These foam pads are a solid choice if you need replacement media for a Fluval U1 (which by the way is by far my favorite filter for smaller tanks). The size is a perfect match to the originals, so you can count on a proper seal and efficient water flow without any bypass, and they don't run any louder than the stock Fluval U1 sponge does which is essentially silent. Installation is straightforward and easy, just rinse and insert like any other sponge. One standout feature is the removable core, which gives you the option to add some (emphasis on some...I have about 10 little Seachem Matrix stones wrapped in a mesh back where the core was) bio media for extra filtration. The sponge feels soft enough to allow good flow while still trapping debris. It seems reasonably dense and not too flimsy, but time will tell how long it holds up with regular use. Cleaning is simple with a rinse and squeeze, and it bounces back well after the first few uses. While I have not run them long enough to speak on longevity from personal use, other reviewers seem to have mixed experiences, which I assume could suggest quality may vary across batches. Value is definitely there. A ten pack at this price gives you plenty of backups without having to constantly reorder or spend more on name brand sponges. Overall, these are convenient and functional filter pads that seem to perform their job well. They check all the boxes for fit, ease of use, and value.

I am not using these with the Fluval U1 that they are designed specifically for (although I hear it is a very good filter.) I got these sponges to use with my various filters in my tanks. I have several 5 gallons, a 10 gallon, and two 20 gallon long tanks. I always remove any replaceable/disposable filter cartridges that come with a new filter, and I replace it with various densities of sponge filter media, like this. It allows you to maximize the amount of space in your filter with as much surface area as possible for beneficial bacteria. You can easily cut these sponges to the size you need for your filter. (Or, if you have a larger filter, just stick several of these in there, and put some ceramic beads in the gaps in-between.) You can simply rinse these sponges with old aquarium water when you do tank maintenance, so these will last a long time. These seem like good quality and will do the job. I think that 10 of these for the current price of $12 is a good value.
